Hi Pokeys! It’s been a while for me.
It’s thanksgiving weekend here and after a challenging week I’ve decided to pass on making turkey dinner.
Earlier in the week I was under the weather with a head cold that my DD had last week so didn’t feel like getting groceries yet.
Then I had 3 evening work events in a row with lots of set-up, tear down and general running around. Not sure how I did it but ended up at the er yesterday morning as one knee had swollen so badly and was super painful. When I showed the nurse my 2 knees to compare she said “oh, wow!” Turned out to be extreme bursitis. I’m now staying off my feet to help rest my knee so declared no turkey cooking for me! DSO said he would do it but I just see grocery shopping, prep and time management for that as an exercise in frustration on both our parts lol!
I absolutely am doing my best to rest as we are on vacation and leaving Monday for a week in Maine. So looking forward to time away from the rat race! The doctor said walking will likely be painful but won’t do any harm. Have some pain pills so I’m hoping to be good to go. We are avid hikers but will definitely adjust to suit my comfort.
It’s beautiful here right now, I’m in my gravity chair tucked away from the wind and going to have a nap in the sun.
Sorry to hear that so many of the Peas are struggling with health and family issues. Hoping things improve for you all’

Hi pokeys I won't be chatting much the next bit. My Mom in BC has very unexpectedly and suddenly passed away and I'm flying out there tomorrow. I'm a bit shattered and it's hard to know where to turn or where to start - as an only kid I have a lot to do and it's harder when you are fighting sadness and tears and the "what ifs". Through the grief, my one sarcastic thought is: "think I'll quit the pokey peas, they're having a rough year". oh no! I'm so very sorry kitbop - unexpected is so very hard. I'll keep you in my prayers. ((((Hugs))))

Neisey - I'm sorry to hear that you're also having knee problems - smart idea to skip the turkey this year under the circumstances. Hope rest takes care if it and you'll still be able to enjoy the vacation.

nylene, I hope your DH is healing now. I am sorry to hear about his eye. kitbop, I am sorry for your loss. I will be keeping you and your family in my prayers. I didn’t mean to be away for so long. Life has just been super busy but I hope it is starting to slow down a bit. The last time I was on here was in July! I was getting over Covid. I took me 2-3 weeks to really feel back to myself but haven’t had any issues. I have been having lots of test thought it seems not related to covid. My B/P has been borderline for a long time but I guess it finally went over the line enough that they started me on medication. I keep having to have follow-up’s because of blood and protein in my urine. All my test so far have been negative and my doctor believes it all could be related to my blood pressure. I am supposed to see a nephrologist at some point just to be sure. My youngest niece got married the end of July in Kansas City. It was an amazing day! I ended up dancing the night away. It was so fun but I was so tired! My oldest niece spent the summer in Springfield which was fun. She is back in New York and also has a new teaching job. I hope to someday go out and visit her. The biggest thing that has taken up a lot of my time was my nurse portfolio. I had worked so hard during the month of August doing all the last minute stuff. I turned it in and they called me about 3 different items that they needed additional documentation. I was glad they gave me a chance to make give them the documentation but also upset that I have done this for several years and they keep changing the requirements. I finally got word that they accepted my portfolio and I received my bonus. nylene, I finally got the trim to my garage door done! It took me 2 months of me calling since the original installer doesn’t work for Lowe’s anymore. It looks great! I now need to work on picking out new front and back doors & storm doors. Then the outside should look all new. I am at a coffee shop and it has gotten crazy busy in here. It seems someone is going to sing/play music soon. Several people are just standing because all the tables are full. I have a few errands to run before going home. I hope to check in soon!

kitbop I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine dealing with it so far from home. We had a hard enough time even though Dean’s mom lived in the same city. Sending hugs.

and I couldn't taste dinner so I tested even though DH was sure he had the flu since it was going around the office - it popped a dark positive almost immediately. Sigh...DH gets to test next - although since I definitely caught it from him...it's a pretty foregone conclusion

OH OH OH Linda - you will be in my thoughts as you guys get through this virus. knutschen - I'm glad you finally got that portfolio finished with. but I'm sorry your health has been a struggle. Neisey - sorry about your knee! I'm skeptical about your diagnosis... knees with bursitis don't "blow up: typically just the front or a small area is puffy and soft. If the sides of your knee were swollen, I would suspect something else like a meniscal tear, infection, or synovitis - I hope it is improving!

kitbop , my heart is just aching for you. I am so sorry about the unexpected loss of your mother. I am sending hugs and you will be in my prayers until you are all finished with the preparations and are back with your family. I am especially sad that you have to make all the decisions by yourself. Just know that we are here if you need to unload some anxiety. knutschen, it's so good to hear from you. I'm glad you are over the Covid and that your garage door is finally fixed. Sounds like the wedding was a nice time for everyone. I hope they will be very happy. Also glad your portfolio is finished and was accepted. I hope things go smoothly for you now. Keep in touch. It's always nice to hear from you. Neisey , your knee sounds painful and not in great shape for a vacation. I hope they have given you suggestions for bringing down the swelling and making it more comfortable. I hope it doesn't stop you from doing some of the things you have planned. Nice to see you checking in. Stop by often. Linda , I can't believe that your family has been struck again. Please take good care of yourselves and I hope you all have a light case and can be up and around sooner rather than later. This has been a rough season, healthwise, for your family. You are in my prayers, as are your DH and DD. I hope the rest of our Pokey Peas are doing OK. You have become such good friends to me and I don't want any of you to be struggling with difficulties. I appreciate the support we can give to one another on this thread. You are all very special friends.

Thanks guys - I'm feeling really rough this morning. I really was not prepared to lose my Mom - expected 20 more years with her. It was only her and me growing up so I feel like I've lost the person who loved my family the most. I have so much more to share with her and do with her and it's breaking me that it's just over. Even tho she infuriated me I still needed here there and I don't know how to adjust.
I am grateful that DH is able to come with me to BC and that the kids are old enough to take care of themselves and the house and the animals while we're gone. We leave in a few hours but I'm trying to distract myself from the pain. Last night I was able to scrapbook a bit...with 3/4 of a bottle of wine in me...and guys, I don't drink so if feels bad to admit that but it kept me from crying for a few hours. I even played a game with my family.
Ironically, I was working on a layout that includes a story about my Mom when this all went down. It's not a flattering story about her: my DD was doing a zoom voice recital in 2020. We were in the "audience" and my Mom had joined the "audience" in BC. She was having issues getting sound, but had the picture. So when Katie started singing her number, and my Mom had no sound, she decided to call KATIE for help??? And Katie was using her phone to play her music for the recital, so when my Mom called the phone stopped playing the music and started ringing! It was a bad moment... and katie was furious and we were frustrated (because really, you see her singing so you think you'll call her and not us???) but my Mom was LIVID at us for being cross at her!
And now I wonder why we didn't just laugh about it and it all feels so different.

((((Hugs)))) kitbop - I can only imagine how infuriating that recital moment was but it sounds like it'll be a funny memory for you guys. Hold on to those memories - the good, the bad, the funny, and the annoying. They're all precious. Be gentle with yourself - it's a huge loss. You are in my prayers

Oh kitbop I'm so sorry! Lots of hugs and good vibes coming your way. The pokey's really are having a rough year! And it's your Thanksgiving I'm so sorry grammadee I'm so glad you had a good trip and I love the pages you are doing of those boys lol. I did get my omnicron and flu shots at the same time. Even the same arm lol. I was a little sore at the site, but not even as bad as the past shots had been. Your Thanksgiving sounds busy, wonderful and like a lot of work lol. I can see your badge, and how cute is THAT?! It's perfect for you and your team! I haven't had a good time to focus on getting mine out of my PM's and into people's signatures, but hopefully this evening. gramma I guess I wasn't the only one inspired by justjac 's afghan lol. I found a pattern for a chunky lap blanket that is all garter stitch - so good for TV time lol. If Abby will allow knitting. I'm not sure about that lol. The one you are going to do is so beautiful! And yes, that will be a lot of work, but so worth it when it's finished! How is everything at your place? Oh no nylene ! You guys are having so much trouble with his eye, but I'm so glad they caught the problem and were able to fix it. I hope this is the last surgery for DH and you guys can get back to a more normal pace. Please take care of yourself! And Linda I sure hope this case of the Covid is the last thing you have to deal with healthwise this year. It's got to be so exhausting to have someone sick, or needing medical care and after care alll. the. time. Take care of yourself too! I have tried 3 times to post in this thread over the weekend, but some little kid from across the street keeps popping over and knocking on my door lol. We are back to playing Pokemon Go together. No sleep over, but I went to visit with them yesterday morning, they came back last evening and we went out driving around playing Pokemon together. At least twice Rudy said "this has been the best time". He'll be here in a couple more hours and we'll hang out while dad is at practice. I'm not sure if I will have an apartment full of kids, or if he and I will get out and about yet. What I do know if no scrapping for me this weekend and that's ok. ETA a catch up on page two - Neisey I'm sorry about your knee, and it sounds horrible, but is it bad that I'm slightly happy for you that you don't have to cook Thanksgiving dinner? I hope the swelling goes down faster the further you get from the rat race and you can enjoy your vacation! knutschen good to see you popping back in! It sounds like a fun, busy summer and I'm glad you were able to get the portfolio done and get your bonus! kitbop , that's a good story and something my very tech challenged mother would do too. Please don't be hard on yourself about anything like that. So glad DH can go with you. Be gentle with yourself.

Glad your dh can go with you, kitbop. Over the next while you will be experiencing all kinds of emotions. Let yourself be angry at her, cry for her, and laugh at her quirks. Stories like the recital one will help you feel all the feels, and if you let yourself do that now, you will find the path to peace. ((((HUGS)))). NOOOOO, Linda... You can't be hit with Covid NOW! You guys are due for some really good luck somewhere along the line. I hope it comes soon. How is your dh today, nylene? Hoping all is well. Glad that as Rudy grows and changes, you are adapting the things you do together, joyfulnana. What is he planning to be for Halloween? Is he still a costume kid? Good job on your portfolio, knutschen! And finishing the garage door. I hope that all the residual effects of Covid have gone and that you can enjoy your fall after such a busy, exhausting summer. I hope the rest is doing your knee good, Neisey. It was sweet of your dh to offer to do the Thanksgiving meal, but I know what you mean. Sometimes it is more difficult to get ready for someone else than to do it yourself. Have a wonderful vacation. Dh was in a big hurry to sweep up all the leaves in the yard, so I dragged dd & family outside to get some leaf pic's this morning. They got into a fun leaf fight so I have tons of great photos to play with when I get these ones printed! I have a turkey in the oven and am just about ready to put the potatoes and turnips on the cook top. Just need to get those cooked, the gravy made, and the turkey carved. Made pumpkin pies yesterday. Okay, off to do some Thanksgiving cooking...

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadian Pokeys! DD is still testing negative and no symptoms so hopefully she is spared. DH is working from home all week per company policy. I slept most of yesterday - hoping not so much today. When we're all finally feeling better my poor house is going to need a deep clean - it's been rather neglected of late. joyfulnana - sounds like a fun weekend with Rudy and his friends grammadee - leaf piles pics sound lovely. I did notice our yard is covered with leaves all of a sudden. We don't rake them though - we'll run the mower one last time and mulch them instead.

Happy midweek, Pokeys! My thoughts are with you kitbop. And with you and your dh's, gramma and nylene. Hoping you are starting to feel better, Linda, and there is NO MORE ILLNESS IN YOUR HOME!!! Dsil and dgs and pets left here yesterday afternoon. Had a fun book club discussion with justjac yesterday evening. Used up the last of the turkey today in turkey a la king, and a bag of cut up meat to go with the broth I had saved. I actually scrapped today: finished the page I had lying all over my counter and a facing page to go with it. Then did a sample for this upcoming Sketchy Saturday. It felt good. Not sure if I will keep scrapping, or start sorting and packing for the LSS crop at the end of the month. Maybe I will start doing some kits and if I get distracted and start putting the pages together before the kit is finished, I will just go with that!

Good Morning Pokey's! Just popping in to say Hi and catch up with you all. I have done no scrapping, but I have gotten a few rows done on the blanket I started after being inspired by justjac lol. I'm such a follower Only one row in and Rudy called dibs if I decide I don't like or want the blanket lol. If this pattern knits up quickly, he will be getting his own for Christmas Waves and hugs to everyone, and NO MORE ILLNESS in this group! I hope you all have a great end to the week. No Rudy this weekend so hopefully I'll scrap. kitbop I'm thinking of you and sending good thoughts.

Hello all. My prayers are with @kitbo, nylene, and grammaDh and I do seem to be on the mend - still very tired though. DD16 seems to have escaped it thankfully. I had to reschedule my MRI again (after rescheduling due to Ian) - it won't be until November now. Some good news - I bought train tickets to go to Virginia to see the big kids later this month. I haven't seen them since Christmas and haven't had a chance to see DS's new house yet.

Good Sunday morning, Pokeys. So cool that Rudy calls dibbs on that blanket, joyfulnana. He trusts you to make something beautiful. (and at least THIS nana is not putting all her energy into that BABYY!) Good news about your health, Linda. Here is hoping that trend continues. We can't have you sick when you should be on the train to see the kids! kellyr21, I hope you are getting reimbursed for all these times you need to be away from home while the complex is being repaired. After all the time away for the exterminators, this must be a pain. nylene I am really hoping that things have not taken another bad turn with you or your dh. Not hearing from you for a week is worrying. Thoughts are with you, as well, kitbop. Sending you strength to deal with everything while you grieve. Fall event season has hit this community like an explosion. Dh & I attended a fall supper on Monday at a local church. Dh did not want to go to the supper yesterday, but I was in the area anyway to attend a birthday gathering. A couple of ladies at the birthday party invited me over to one of their homes for the interim before the supper, so I ended up attending. This next Wednesday a different church is starting up their soup & sandwich lunches, and then next Saturday a different nearby community is hosting a craft fair and then a perogy supper. After years of no or stunted events it seems everyone is set on celebrating. Hoping all the Pokeys are having the Sunday they want to have. I need to put together a couple of cards and then I plan to cook up a couple of pumpkins for baking later in the week. We could be going to another fall supper this evening, but this time I think we will both just stay home. All that socializing is exhausting! Waving hi to gramma and msliz and Neisey and refugeepea and all the other Pokeys.

Hello Pokeys!
So glad to finally be feeling better. I'm still tiring more quickly though. But I managed to make it to the scrap desk tonight to work on some cards. I'm really looking forward to visiting DD22 and DS30 - we'll celebrate his 31st birthday while I'm there - I haven't been with him on his birthday since before he enlisted (2015). I do wish the train was during the day rather than overnight - I get on just after 5pm and off just before 5am headed there and then the way back is 930-ish pm to 11-ish am

Hoping all the Pokeys are having the Sunday they want to have. OK, this jumped out me. I have a coworker who when you tell him to have a good evening, etc, said "don't tell me what kind of night to have" LOL. So I tell him to have the kind of evening he wants lol. And yes, I did just do whatever I felt like this weekend, which wasn't much lol. grammadee I have a feeling I'll be the soft place once the baby comes and gets all the attention from mom lol. I'm definitely here for that Linda how exciting! I'm so happy for you and can't wait to hear how the kids are doing. Good news that you and DH are finally feeling better too. omg kellyr21 it seems like you have been out of your apartment more than in this year. I hope they get everything done soon, and yes that you are being reimbursed for this. Hugs to you. nylene, I didn't realize it's been a week since you posted, keeping you and DH in my thoughts and hope everything is going as well as it can, and you are just busy. I spent the weekend doing what I wanted to do instead of what I felt like I should do. Which meant going to the LSS 30 minutes from me to see if she had VB print shop - not out yet, but she did still have some SS Bro & Co and I snapped a good bit of that right up lol. Sunday was knitting and football. I did not see anyone and it was a nice change of pace lol. We went from beautiful 70's to highs in the 50's this week. I know most of you don't look forward to cooler weather, but I'm loving this

Hey Pokeys. Sending hugs to all of you. I started my online quilting class (even though I am not done my mail order afghan class.) This week is cutting like a 1000 squares total out of 14 different colours. I'm not sure I'm precise enough for this but I'm going to try.
Dean's dad's house has sold. It was only on the market for one day when he got an offer. It's a quick turnaround and the whole thing will be finalized by the end of the week.
I've been doing Layout a Day this month but in a more relaxed way than usual. If I have enough photos or a big enough story for a 12x12 layout I do that. Otherwise I do a 6.5x4.5 page in my Daily Pages notebook. It really takes the pressure off. Here are a few of my projects this week. Daily Page 10/12/22Daily Page 10/13/22 Not That Wheel

Sorry I have been absent. It has been a hard week, but I think we are both on the mend. Tomorrow they plan to remove the stitches to hold DH's eye closed. Then if all goes well, the rest will come out at the end of the week. I was able to get him in to his Primary Care doctor to get something for the anxiety and panic he has been experiencing. Hopefully that will all dissipate when his eye is open. We got our flu and Covid boosters while there. On Friday I talked him into leaving town to attend a Dinner Show as part of the Cowboy Poetry Festival. He looked kind of scary still, but the other diners at our table were older and it didn't seem to bother them. It was nice to get away. We spent this morning running errands and I am hoping that my time will be mine to do some cards this afternoon. I have hardly stepped into my scraproom in over a week. Linda , I am glad you and DH are doing better and that DD is still free of your germs! Hooray for a trip on the train to see your kids. They will be so excited to have you visit. How long will you stay? grammadee , I have done NO commenting this month and got behind last month. I hope to jump on the Cardtober challenges and see what I can accomplish. I'm not sure I will ever catch up, but I plan to enjoy playing with paper. kitbop , I am sending prayers for comfort and strength. I hope things are going well with all the things that accompany a loss of a family member. My heart is grieving with you. HUGS! kellyr21 , I am so sorry you are out of your apartment AGAIN. That is crazy. I, too, hope you are getting some kind of compensation. Our trees are all turning yellow and orange and it was 46 degrees when we started our errands this morning. It is definitely Fall. It warms in the daytime, but because of the wind it feels very cool. I dread winter and long for your temps through the winter! Take care of yourself. I hope you are back home soon. joyfulnana , it makes me happy to know that you just enjoyed your weekend and didn't push yourself to do drudgery things. We all need times like that. I'm sure Rudy will be so excited when the baby comes, but it will wear off quickly. LOL. I asked our grandson 21, (who is autistic) what he thought of baby Swayzee, his tiny niece. He responded with such seriousness, "I don't really know how to judge babies!" He loves her and she loves him, so I guess he decided she's ok. I'm sure Rudy will be pretty delighted with a sibling! gramma , how are you and DH doing? How are the house plans going? Have DH's ribs healed or are they still pretty sore? I hope he's doing much better. I haven't been able to try out all the sticker files, but hope to use some this week. I feel out of the loop. Angie told me to tell you hello from her. ETA: Wow, justjac, that's a lot of squares to cut! I hope it goes well and that you enjoy the quilting. Love your layouts. I'll catch them in the gallery. Are you getting more students in class?

nylene - ((((Hugs))) and prayers. I hope things continue to improve for you and your dh and I'm glad you were able to get away for the dinner show. They will be so excited to have you visit. How long will you stay? Almost two weeks - I leave here Sunday afternoon and get there really early Monday morning. Then I leave there Nov 4 in the late evening and get home late morning on Nov 5. I wish the train rides had more daylight for sightseeing but...it is what it is. Train station is about 2 hrs from our house and I think an hour or so from theirs at the other end. I could have taken a train closer to them but it would have been a five-hour layover in Richmond and then anopther 90 min. on the train so easier to get off in Richmond and have them pick me up. justjac - I love that you're doing LOAD the way that works best for you. That sewing page is great! joyfulnana - sounds like a fun weekend - and now you have an excuse to go back to the LSS when she gets the VB out.

Popping in for a quick "hi" to all. Thanks for continuing to think of me! We're still in BC at my Mom's - it's all overwhelming with 1) emotions 2) death stuff 3) house stuff. We still have a house full of furniture although I think we're almost finished the initial sweep through to get rid of easy things to thrift/recycle/garbage. The rest will require selling. Sometimes we throw an item into the thrift box, just to retrieve it and say, "let's just google that" and discover it's worth money. sigh. We will probably rent it for a while if we can - the market is pretty hot, but this place needs some money put into it. We fly home saturday and boy I can't wait to see my kids and my scrapbook stuff! nylene - I'm glad you got DH out and about, but I'm sorry about this whole experience for him, I can imagine how claustrophobic he must feel! Linda - glad you have a visit to look forward to justjac - glad the house sold quickly - one less thing to have niggling at you guys! And you should have been here for the fabric clean out - so much quiltable fabric! The ladies from her stitch and sew group took it all to divide up, although some of it they threw in the trash as it's so old-fashioned (from the 70s, not cotton).

So good to hear from you, nylene and kitbop. nylene I hope that once the stitches are out your dh will feel more normal, and his anxiety will ease off. Glad the meds helped, and it was good you got him out of the house. kitbop, I don't envy your time dealing with all the details. Hoping you can resolve the big issues so that you can leave there without too much worry. Is there an agency or private business that deals with situations like this?--Clearing a home and readying it for sale? I have heard that the Kidney foundation used to take furniture donations but not sure how that would work. Tomorrow we drive to a small city nearby for dh to have his scan of his hip. It was booked once before and then postponed due to a dye shortage, but they fit him in for this week. I am hoping that after I drop him off, I can head to WalMart and print some photos. That seems preferable to hanging out in a hospital waiting room for a couple of hours. Today I put together a LO that I have been envisioning for weeks. When they were here in the summer, my dgd's re-enacted some photos from my 2011 scrapbook. I had psyched myself out a bit, thinking this one had to be really special, and wondering how I was going to work the "then" pic's with the "now". But today I was thinking about how much FUN the girls had doing the enacting and I just decided to have fun with SCRAPPING the experience and it came together fairly easily! (Working with a VB collection didn't hurt, either...) Re enacting Sisters Day by Gramma Dee, on Flickr

((((Hugs))) and continued prayers kitbop - there's just so much to do to clear out a house and it's so hard from a distance and/or while grieving. We ended up calling in an estate sales company to help clear out my mum's. grammadee - lovely layout - they look like they had a blast! And those bright colours are just right! Good luck with DH's scan - I hope it's helpful.
