I must’ve missed something with the tags because I’m not sure why the need for large circle punches?

I must’ve missed something with the tags because I’m not sure why the need for large circle punches? The 4” size punch just makes it easier to punch out patterned paper for the top of the tag as it’s that exact size.

This year there seems to be less crafting on the spot...i always liked that in years past so I'm not sure how I feel so far this year. Ali said that she felt the videos were better when they were planned out and not live. And I get that for demos and stuff but I miss the live aspect as well. I just feel like I'm alone in my house. I can do that anytime. I'd like a mix.

The one thing I like premade videos for is it keeps the creator from answering the same 5 questions over and over and over again throughout the recording. Though a moderator would help with that a bit..

Stockings! What do we think about this idea? I think it’s cute! My album is 6x8 so I think what I’ll do is just have one stocking in this size. Will I use it for my album? Not sure but I do like the idea. I don’t know what I would put in it but should be fairly easy to tuck a photo/story/recipe inside. Really cute with one side of the stocking being vellum.

I appreciate that with an edited video that the repetitive boring parts are sped up.
But there is a vibe to real lives that is fun and energizing.

I think I’d do one stocking. I like the idea Ali shared that someone said about photographing stocking items to fill it with. I might do something like that. Not sure, but it’s definitely a fun idea.

I really really like this idea -- thinking how I can manage it in a smaller format. Also LOVE that dang hey santa vellum so much I went searching for it lol. Found it on an online store that had some other really cute Christmas vellums but the cost of shipping 12x12 anything is always so much 😩

honeypea I heard Ali say that and for some reason this is completely going over my head. Stocking items to fill it with. Like, take photos of the items you will be putting inside your loved ones stockings?? Why don’t I understand this? LOL! Like candy and stuff?? Omg I’m sorry! jenna you found the same vellum? That’s great! Yes, shipping 12x12 papers is pricey. Maybe the store you found it will offer free shipping during Black Friday!

I like the stockings. Since I’m doing a 6x8 album I’ll probably only use one stocking.
I really want to purchase a sewing machine for scrapping. I have no idea how to use one or what to purchase.

When I saw the stocking idea, I immediately thought, "Eh...not for me." Then someone suggested taking photos of the actual contents inside the Christmas stocking. I take such care with the contents of our family's Christmas stockings, shopping at World Market for snacks from around the world. There were a couple of years when I did not fill the stockings--years when I was grieving, one year when we spent the holidays in Germany, and then 2020, when it was just too hard to go shopping for anything. So now I'm getting lots of ideas for what I want to do!

You can also hand-stitch in the meantime. Allison Davis from Scrapbook Generations has put out some videos of how she stitches her layouts. I have a sewing machine, but it was fun to hand-stitch some stars onto a page, following her directions. A stocking isn't overly complicated, so it's just a thought.

I just logged in to check out Prep Day finally and I'm really disappointed that there isn't live stuff through the whole hour. Otherwise, it's like...why am I even blocking out time to do this today, specifically.

Is anyone planning on using a notebook as part of their DD. I think I like the idea but cannot for the life of me come up with an idea for one. I don’t have childhood ornaments. I document new ornaments each year in DD. Kids DD doesn’t work for us. And I do not understand the point of Kristin’s notebook. So weird. And I do keep a sketch book of DD ideas I plan to use each day. But pencil and super sloppy. I would never put that much time and effort into a notebook like that.

stormsts , here is one of the stitching videos: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvvDaH-YRyY&t=31spancakes , Ali is coming on at the top of the hour, so at least she's answering questions and introducing the videos. But, yeah, it's different from some other lives I've participated in, with less spontaneity.

So, similar to having a bunch of tags in a pocket, but you’d have your pics/ephemera of your real life stocking stuffers in the stocking pocket of the scrapbook.

I'm thinking the same thing. The whole fun of the past years was feeling like i was crafting with others. This year not so much and I'm disappointed. It's been a long week and I may tap out for a nap.

I do the stocking content photos every few years. Use a white piece of foam board. I’ve either arranged everything in a some sort of order and printed a full page photo. I’ve also arranged the items around the outside of the board, leaving the middle open. I then journal in the white space. This only started to work when my kids were older and didn’t rip into everything right away. And stockings for us are a big deal, I stuff those suckers full. My stocking from child hood would have been way less cool… 3 pieces of fruit (really parents?), nuts (again why), a bit of candy and maybe a small gift.

Stockings are a big deal here too. ❤️ Growing up my mom hung them up as decorations, but never filled them with anything. It was such a disappointment! One year, with my part time job funding my endeavor, I pleaded with my mom to actually do stockings and I shopped for my parent’s stocking stuffers very thoughtfully. On Christmas morning mine was still empty. My mom quickly grabbed a few of the smaller gifts of mine out from under the tree and shoved them in there, along with some of the candy canes off the tree she’d used as ornaments. 🙄 That was my mom in a nutshell. I’ve basically overcompensated for this stocking trauma the rest of my life. 😅

I mapped it out in photoshop and if you print the stockings 7" tall you can fit two on the page with as much overlap as Ali has in hers.
I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet.
Here's my other dilemma: I usually do a page for my 9 nieces and nephews. So this year I thought that making the tags for each would be cool and we would do it at Thanksgiving. But we go to my parents so we might have them and my grandma do the tags too, then my MIL. Then why not us 3 as well. So 16 tags. And, oh wait, Troy is married and I usually put them together but you can't really do that with the tags so now we're at 17. 17 tags in a 6X8 album. No.
Dammit.
I could do us and the grandparents. That would be nice and then we'd have 7. That's manageable, right?

honeypea my heart goes out to you. I completely understand where you are coming from regarding the stockings. And also thanks for explaining the photo idea to me. I get it now! 😂 So the calendar! I was hoping for a creative lesson but I appreciate the calendar and getting a plan for your stories! I would never be this organized about it so big thank you to Linda for that! It was also nice to see exactly how she writes in her calendar with the 50/50 planned/unplanned approach.

blemon yes, you could just have everyone fill out the tag for fun, collect them all and then just use the ones you want in your album! Also, what size album are you using?

janamke love the idea with the white foam board. I have never thought of that! Also, I’m not going to use a notebook for my album. I haven’t watched any of the videos from that lesson. I heard it mentioned that the notebooks could be used for taking photos of your Christmas cookies.

You’ll have plenty of other opportunities for stories for your immediate family.
