We are not a butter family. A stick, yes a stick, can probably last us the entire YEAR! I eat toast, but I put jelly on it. I don't even put butter on pancakes. The syrup makes it sweet enough for me. And no buttered popcorn for me. The only time I may use butter is if I am baking. Now, when we go out to eat, if the restaurant serves us hot bread, I will put butter on it. So, how much butter do you use and how do you use it?

I actually put a bit of butter on my pancakes instead of syrup!
I was raised on margarine. When I got married we had both and now I only buy margarine for recipes that call for it, but we primarily use butter.

None. I haven't used butter in 8 years once I started on the whole foods, plant based diet. That diet excludes dairy products so I stopped using butter.
Except when I travel to Germany which I've done once during that time. I held out for the first week, but then I decided to indulge. Boy am I glad I did. German butter tastes so much better than the butter we get here in the USA. I have no idea why. It just does. The butter I used to buy here in the USA (and yes I've tried the expensive brands) doesn't even come close. And there is nothing, nothing that tastes as good to me as a brotchen (a German roll) slathered in German butter in the morning. Yum!

Probably a pound every other month on average, maybe a bit more. We used to use a lot more when I was cooking a hot breakfast every weekend morning. I think that amount is pretty normal.

What do you cook your eggs in, if not butter? Pam. But I cook eggs maybe only on Sundays. The rest of the week, we eat hard boiled eggs. SO eats lots of hard boiled eggs!

I bet I average about 1 pound per week. I make a dessert and homemade bread every week.

I don’t know how much is in a box but we eat a lot. I love butter - toast, crackers, in mash, for cooking. I do think some brands taste better than others though and i probably wouldn’t eat as much of a less tasty brand.

I said we use an average amount. We always have a 500g tub of spreadable butter in the fridge and probably use up one every 10 days or so. We mostly use that for toast and sandwiches. We also keep blocks of unsalted butter which we use for cooking. Usage of that varies with the season, but gain, probably around 500g every week or two.

I have a Hello Fresh delivery every week of about four meals that I cook ... most require either butter or olive oil ... usually butter ... I'm single so a pound lasts a long time

We rarely use butter, unless it is for baking. We use olive oil on vegetables, pasta, bread, salads, etc. If we are given butter in a restaurant, I request olive oil and a small plate.

I buy maybe a box of 4 sticks every other month. During the colder months, we eat more soup that calls for cooking the onions and celery in butter vs oil so I might use more then. During the summer, one package can last the entire season. I buy a small tub of the butter spread (country crock) every other month as well.
I don't do a lot of baking.
SIL had at least 10 4 stick packages in the fridge the last time we were there. And a lot of cream cheese. She loves to cook and bake. I'm a buy the tube of cookie dough and call it good kind of person. Working in a bakery killed my sweet tooth and desire to bake.

The only time I use butter is if I am making a sauce for only dh and I. I can still have a little butter even though I have to watch my lactose. So when I make a roux or white sauce, I use butter. Other than that, I dont eat many things that require butter. Baked potatoes, I use DDs vegan oil based butter.

I don’t know - maybe 2-3 pounds/year. Not a ton but not none. I mostly use ghee, avocado oil and olive oil for my cooking fats but butter is better for some things.

I use to use a lot more, but I cut pasta from my diet. I love pasta and butter only. My favorite is elbow macaroni. Comfort food.
Currently, I only use a very thin layer of butter on my multi-grain English muffin.
If I am at a restaurant, I will allow myself to have one roll. I prefer regular butter, not the honey butter that is sometimes given.

Probably a box/4 sticks/1 pound per month. I just get the Costco brand and it lasts about 6-8 weeks. We also have a soft tub of butter that we use for toast/pancakes/grilled cheese sandwiches. An average size tub also lasts a month. If I didn’t have teenagers, I would probably use a stick 1/4 pound a month.

I wasn’t sure how to answer. Apart from Thanksgiving & Christmas, I use less than a box of butter per year.
Between Thanksgiving & Christmas cooking/baking, I use another 2-3 boxes/pounds.
So, while I love butter on bread, pancakes & waffles (blech on syrup), I don’t eat many bread products anymore, or I gain weight. My family’s butter consumption is probably less than average outside of the holidays.

I very seldom eat butter. It’s a treat for special occasions because of the high fat content.

Up until two weeks ago I’d say two sticks or 1/2 lb per week. I liked to make a batch of homemade biscuits using 11 tablespoons which is about 1 1/2 sticks every week. Then my DH had a heart attack and I’ve used two tablespoons in two weeks both on Christmas Day.

A few times in my life I've bought butter to make ghee with. And this year I was asked to make cookies for church so I bought some then. That's literally it. Butter has always tasted and smelled like vomit to me, but I know I'm very much in the minority so I usually don't advertise that.

We use very little butter day-to-day. Mashed potatoes and a knob to finish off a risotto are the only times I can think of using it for cooking a meal. Even for corn on the cob, we brush it with avocado oil & tajin rather than butter & salt. ETA OK, completely forgot about spanakopita that I make a couple times a year needs 1/2 cup butter. My guys are both big sandwich eaters and use mayonnaise & mustard. We might use more olive oil than the average family. ETA I hope your DH is recovering, peaname .

Personally….not very much unless I’m having potatoes, then all bets are off 🤷🏻♀️. But extraordinarily picky ds eats noodles with butter every night for dinner. So he makes up for it and we probably fall in the “average” range.

I was never a big butter eater until I tasted Kerrygold, imported butter from Ireland. It is amazing! I saw it at Costco one afternoon. They also had butter from Italy, I think it was. I decided to try both because I had company coming so I knew I would be baking and using them both up for the most part. I didn't care for the Italian butter at all. It was tasteless to me. Nice and creamy texture, but tasteless. But I fell for the Irish butter. Hard. Now that is all I will buy. I don't eat butter very often at all, so if I'm going to eat it, it has to be the best butter I can find. Prior to finding Kerrygold, the only time I ate butter was at the fairgrounds. once a year. We always got a corn on the cob and put butter and lime juice on it. It was amazing that way. But the butter was just cheap, junk butter I'm sure.

My grandfather was a dairy farmer. Nuff said. Mine worked for the local butter factory. Margarine was a (humorously) banned foodstuff in our household. There is nothing quite like really hot toast with melted butter and jam, and I love boiled veggies with a little butter on them.
