Dear PL-ers, It's that time of the year again... When those who've been good PL-ers are about to put their finished album away with a feeling of great satisfaction. And when those who've wandered a little (a lot?) off path are ready to begin fresh and get it done right this time! 2023 is almost upon us. That can only mean one thing: it's time crack open a brand new album, get some page protectors out, flip through those PL cards and start thinking about the title page. There are products to go find in our hoards collections, upcoming January stories to start thinking about, the New Year's Day family portrait to brainstorm, ink pads to test out and many more fun things to do. 🎉📖✂️ Come join us for another year of everyday documenting. We will have several Peas leading us through 2023, one month at a time, to keep this thread filled with energy, new challenges, chatter and encouragement. Be part of the 2-PL-eas Refugees! 💖

Let's kick things off with a few questions to share our PL plans for the coming year! Which album are you using? How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) What's your favourite thing about PL? What's your main struggle with PL? Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? Got any ideas for your title page?

I can't believe we're nearly to the beginning of 2023.
Which album are you using? I haven't ordered any yet, which I realised far too late this year. I'll probably just get a black 12x12 from sb.com which is what the last couple of years have been in.
How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) All stash. I have way too many that need to be used up and I don't particularly love any of the existing kits out there enough to sub, or the international postage costs + exchange rate enough to buy them as one-offs.
What's your favourite thing about PL? I love having a record of the little parts of life. The big stuff is exciting, and I love working on my travel albums, but my day-to-day life is much smaller, and PL lets me capture that. I like seeing the little changes over time, things I'm listening to, places we go, favourite restaurants, how my house looks.
What's your main struggle with PL? I wish pocket page used more of my stash up. A couple of years ago I switched to doing a mix of pocket and full-page layouts as I found my stash was growing much faster than I could use it when I was only doing pocket pages. I love an album that is full of just pocket pages, or has only the occasional full page layout.
Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? Nothing planned yet.
Got any ideas for your title page? No ideas yet, but I usually do this after I've completed some pages in my album so I have a better feel for what I want. I still haven't completed the title page for my 2022 album.
I'm also working through the last of the random pocket page protectors from when I bought all the designs because I thought I wanted them. It's taken me the last two or three years to get through all the weird configurations, but I'm at the point where I've allowed myself to buy my favourite designs again. If I keep focusing on using those last few page protectors, I should use them all up during 2023.

I see you've kicked it off sleepingbooty! I'm happy to host February since you've just gotten January off to a good start. Which album are you using? I went with a red velvet scrapbook.com 9x12 album. It was shipped today. How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) I am subscribing to freckled fawn this year. Or at least for a little while. I do plan to make some cards myself too. Maybe I will grow my stamp sets. What's your favourite thing about PL? I like how I can include a bunch of random photos. I might not create a 12x12 page about my dinner but it may be something included in my project life. What's your main struggle with PL? My main struggle is journaling. I feel like there's only little bits of places to journal. I could totally go for a bunch more words. Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? I'm just looking forward to the new year. Got any ideas for your title page? I never do a title page.

Ugh, my 2023 PL was an abject failure! I think I only got about 3 or 4 weeks done.
I haven't given any thought to what format I will use this year. In 2022 I went back to the original pocket card layouts, as I thought it would be quicker and easier than the templates I had been using the previous 2-3 years, but it wasn't really.
Which album are you using? *IF* I ever complete a year, I will make a photobook. I would love to use a lay-flat book but they are SOOOO expensive!
How are you getting your cards this year? I have a lot of pre-made cards in my digital stash, most of them by Just Jaime from her previous Storyteller collections. I plan to make a lot of my cards myself.
What's your favourite thing about PL? Documenting the little things and the big things. It is so much fun to look back at old PL pages and remember fun little stories that I'd forgotten.
What's your main struggle with PL? Keeping up to date. I usually get off to a flying start, because January is summer, I usually have time off work, and we do a lot of fun stuff (beach, river, pool, concerts, BBQs, parties etc. But by about May I start to run out of interesting things to do and to take photos of.
Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? Our trip to Bangkok / Koh Samui / Singapore with friends in July. I will do a whole album about the trip, but I am still going to include it in my PL album, because it will account for nearly three weeks.
Got any ideas for your title page? I'm probably going to use one of the family photo we took on Christmas Day. I haven't decided on a design yet. I am sure that one of the challenges in The Lilypad's Month of Challenges will include something I can use as inspiration for my title page.
I am going to include more news stories this year. In the past I have really only used them as fillers, but this year I want to make a point of including them. Also along those lines, I want to include things like the cost of petrol and groceries, things like that.
One last thing.... I think I am going to step away from doing one week per double page layout, and naming them Week 1, Week 2 etc. I have never stuck to the "one photo every day" format, because I realised very early on in my first year of PL that it was way too much pressure. For 2023 I think I will just label the start of each new month. Some months might have 4 double pages, some might have 6 or only 2 double pages. No pressure!

Let's kick things off with a few questions to share our PL plans for the coming year! Which album are you using? 12x12 - I always think about switching it up but nothing else feels right for me. How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) Paper Person, stash, digitals What's your favourite thing about PL? Looking back at a completed year. I always wonder wtf I'm doing taking pictures of the boring stuff but I always love looking back at it. What's your main struggle with PL? Journaling. Always. That goes for all of my projects though. Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? Nope. Got any ideas for your title page? Not yet. This will be my 10th PL year. Some years I am eager to do it, some years feel like a chore. This year feels in between. I'm always happy that I did it though so that's what keeps me going.

I do pocket pages but don't follow PL. I do mine for events and stories I want to scrap. Hope you don't mind me joining this thread again.
Which album are you using? I will purchase the sb.com albums again in 9x12 size. I have a grey for ds and teal for dd for years 2020, 2021, and 2022 (3 years in each album). Thinking pink for dd and green for ds.
How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) I have purchased a few digital sets here and there but mainly make my own.
What's your favourite thing about PL? I can still create a single pocket page (9x12) and can include more photos if I choose. It's more stream lined too and less stressful. I can also stretch my supplies further.
What's your main struggle with PL? Figuring out what page protector I want to use.
Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? Yes. Birch Aquarium trip - last trip was right before pandemic. Dd's and ds's birthdays. Ds' next choir performance.
Got any ideas for your title page? I just do the date(s) and photo(s) of ds and dd.

I think PL is now just a generic term for all types of pocket scrapbooking, but honestly, I think this thread is open for anyone who wants to talk about their memory keeping.

12x12 and after a few years of a monthly format, I’m going old school with a weekly format again. If that putters out to more if a monthly thing, fine, no biggie. But my aim is to capture a lot of the little things that sort of end up getting overlooked with the monthly thing.
I already have a couple black albums, so I’ll use those.
I’m hoping for a stash busting year, but I’m not making any rules about not buying stuff. But I hope to not bring in too many new supplies. I have one month of AE SK before I can cancel, and I need to decide what to do about Paper Person Shop (my commitment is fulfilled).

Which album are you using? Last year was my first year back scrapping after a long hiatus. I did jan-June weekly PL in 12x6. I wanted more room to spread out and switched to 12x9 for my July-Dec album. I’ve purchased 2 12x 9s for this year. How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) I plan to continue SBTM for the year. I am also doing story kit but am planning to cancel in July I think after the happy kit. I have plenty. I’ll use other stuff (more story kits, paper person, etc) from my stash to compliment and I love making my own cards with stamps and patterned papers or old PL cards. What's your favourite thing about PL? I just love capturing all the stories and details that get lost or fuzzy if not recorded. Besides having the albums to look back on, I just get a lot of joy from creating the pages and playing with supplies. What's your main struggle with PL? This was my first real year (I did a memory planner last year and completed that) and I’m almost done with the album- just finishing up Christmas week tonight/tomorrow. My struggle is wanting to include everything. I have more content than there is room for. And then I want to add embellishments and journal a bunch, etc. I'm not willing to go to 12x12 so 12x9 has to work (I do admit to adding 12x6 inserts plenty of weeks). I’m not compromising on leaving out journaling so I feel my pages end up more cluttery than the eye would prefer. 😂 My pages usually have a lot going on. But I don’t want to let go of anything - so cluttery it is! Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? Continuing to document our house build project and dd1 is also doing a major bathroom and kitchen remodel. I include some things for the girls if there’s room Got any ideas for your title page? I don’t really care about title pages- I really only complete them so there aren’t empty pockets. This year I just did them throughout the year (2 albums) using either repeated favorite pictures from the year or pics from events that didn’t make it in the albums. For my July-Dec alumn I chose one from each season in that album (summer-fall-winter) and another favorite. Added a quote card from Ali that I liked but never have room for on my weekly pages, and filler card with embellished and done!

paget I know you say your pages are cluttery but I really love them. When I look at how I want my PL to go, I look up to the way you do yours. I love the idea of an album jam packed with pictures and journaling. The jury is still out for me on whether I will go with a weekly format or a monthly one. There's pros and cons to each method. I might wait and see how my first few weeks of picture taking go. I'm still going to have to get back in the groove of taking pictures.

Which album are you using? Citrus twist 6x8 in navy for the winter peony for spring/summer
How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) I want to use my feed your craft stash and my paper person stash. I also get citrus twist, sahin designs and memory pockets monthly
What's your favourite thing about PL? I love that it’s an overview of all the things. It’s a great way to just capture life.
What's your main struggle with PL? Keeping up and remaining excited. Thai year I’m switching to Heidi swapp memory plannerish style. And I’m still counting it as project life. I’m excited to try something new as I catch up on finishing 2021/2022. I think this will add some fun back in it.
Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? I’m looking forward to documenting the first week and seeing if all the ideas in my head will work or if I will crash and burn and go back to traditional project life.
Got any ideas for your title page? I’m using a 2023 cut file with gold fooled pattern from paisley press. It’s really pretty. I will come back and share when it’s photographed.

Which album are you using? 12x12, because I can't quit you.
How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) I'm still a Paper Person subscriber, but that's it. The rest is from my extensive stash.
What's your favourite thing about PL? I like consistency and I like planning. Doing it each week can feel like a struggle, but I know the outcome is worth it. Looking back through the albums is so awesome.
What's your main struggle with PL? I prefer to get my week done as quickly as possible, but printing has to be shipped and that slows me down. Then if I have another album... I feel the need to rush my PL.
Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? DD's last elementary year.
Got any ideas for your title page? I don't always do one, so we'll see how I feel in a few days...
Happy 2023 PL, folks!

Which album are you using? Debating on this. I came back to PL this year after a long time and ended up with 2 9x12 albums bursting. I loved the page layouts and look of that size - plus I dropped in 6x8 pages - but it takes up so much space. I really don't want that much bulk to store so I am debating between 9x12 but maybe 2 week spreads or 6x8? I thought about doing the Heidi Swapp STB planners, but I worry that the small space is too small for my pictures. I need to make a decision here!
How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash). I have a ton of stash as I subbed to Paper Person, AE SBTM and AE Story kit last year so I need to use all of what remains as well as finishing up my story kit sub. Then I will go into general stash and supplement with some digital kits on hand. I really liked how Paper Person had monthly calendar cards in 2022 - so hoping to find some digitals like those as well as some monthly relevant cards. After that, not sure. I have not seen anything I really love out there.
What's your favourite thing about PL? I really really loved getting memories captured and every day stories told. I love that I can look back at most of 2022 (still need to do Nov/Dec) and get a real window into our year.
What's your main struggle with PL? I stayed on top of it except this past 2 months - so one struggle is just making sure I get it done in a timely fashion while it is still fresh. The second is more my struggle for 2023 with what size to do and long term storage. I guess one other is I started to do a few weeks/months of 2021. I would like to go back and do that year, but not sure when I will find the time/make it a priority.
Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? This will include the start of my son's senior year of high school, so I know I will really enjoy the process of capturing these final moments.
Got any ideas for your title page? Not yet, but I am a Liz subscriber, so I am planning to download her 2023 files and may use one of those and foil it.

Texas Scrap I totally understand about the concern of storing 2 full 9x12 albums each year (in addition to anything else you do). I decided that this year it makes sense for me since I need the real estate for extra home/building projects and also because I’m having so much fun with it. I know I won’t always be so into it (I took like a 15 year scrap break) so I should ride the crafting wave while I am enjoying it. I’ll re-address the size concerns each year and I can see myself paring it down in the next couple of years.

Which album are you using? WRMK 12x12
How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) Stash and Paperperson kit
What's your favourite thing about PL? That the "little" stories get told. Like the prices of things, the mundane & every day things that make up our lives at that moment in time.
What's your main struggle with PL? I'm extremely wordy. I'm always trying to fit what I want to say onto just one journaling card (or 2).
Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? My newest grand baby

Which album are you using? i am an 8.5x11 scrapper and use 1 6x12 pocket page at the beginning of the month interspersed with regular layouts. I also occasionally use other sizes-anything that will fit in the 8.5x11 (6x8 8x8 8x12) How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) AE SBTM and Elle's studio, plus stash What's your favourite thing about PL? I typically use it to house all the tiny stories that don't need a whole page-so I like that those still get documented, or I use them to add extra photos to otherwise "traditional" layouts. What's your main struggle with PL? the fact that I refuse to change from 8.5x11 and sometimes things don't fit Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? I want to do better with adding current events, so hopefully I will do that. Got any ideas for your title page? not yet

Which album are you using? 12x12 always. Contemplated 9x12, but 12x12 just works so well for me.
How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) I have a small stash but still waffling on a subscription. Waiting to see what Freckled Fawn and Hip Kit looks like.
What's your favourite thing about PL? Capturing all the little things that would be forgotten. My daughter is away at college, so I usually dedicate one monthly page to summarize what’s going on with her.
What's your main struggle with PL? I take both horizontal and vertical photos, it’s a challenge to fit both orientations in a layout. I’m terrible at preplanning, I just print monthly batches of photos and make it work.
Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? Nothing specific, our trips are documented in minis, so just the ordinary life things.
Got any ideas for your title page? It’s the year of the rabbit, I’ve been thinking about including that somehow.

Hooray I love the New year thread questions.
Which album are you using? AE 9x12, monthly format. Monthly worked well for me and I should be able to fit everything including both DITL days into one album.
How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash) AE SBTM & SK, Stash. I would really like to do some pages in the PL app as well. I need to figure out which layouts I can use and cut part off for 9x12 layouts.
What's your favourite thing about PL? All the pictures!
What's your main struggle with PL? The page protector layouts. Choosing & limiting photos that I use. I really only work on it at spring and fall retreats so I fall way behind during the busy summer months and it takes awhile to catch up. I need a better plan for this. Also ephemera……I save everything and always forget to put it in my PL album. i have years of this stuff. I think I just need a separate ephemera album.
Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023? Not yet
Got any ideas for your title page? We had family photos taken a couple weeks ago so I’m hoping to use those in my title page.

I have a lot more than two pages for each month. I include inserts as well. I don’t think doing it monthly has reduced the number of layouts that I make for the month but I think it makes it less rigid for me. I don’t worry about the dates or if there was a slow week, etc. Some months have more but I would say I average about two 2 page layouts per month plus inserts and an enlargement or two (6x8 or 5x7 photos). I want to try some flip outs in 2023.

I would love to see examples of 9x12 albums that do a monthly format. I am struggling to visualize how to fit a month in a 2 page layout and I'd love to see how those of you who do this make it work! Monthly PL-ers can do multiple spreads, not just the one. A great way to use 9x12 for a monthly format is to have that one 9x12 spread dedicated to all kinds of happenings that don't need more than one pocket each (currently, news events, small things, random photos/selfies) and add behind that the extra pages needed to record larger things (birthdays, trips, outings, special events, etc.). Some months, you'll have just your "recap spread" and an insert because not much happened in your life. Other months, you'll have an extra three page protectors tucked behind the recap because it was a busy month with loads going on. You can always add monthly tabs to each recap spread to help you find your month quickly as you're adopting a fluctuating number of pages per month. But overall, this is a great, no-nonsense approach to monthly PL. Heck, I did this one year by season, not even by month. Still worked fine for me.

This is kinda obvious now that you all responded, but it makes a ton of sense and allows me to let go of the limitations with week by week. I love it! Thanks for the response and clarity. I definitely think this is a better route for me. One more question - do you all date anything within the month? i.e. put a date stamp or other something on specific stories or pages?

I have a lot more than two pages for each month. I include inserts as well. I don’t think doing it monthly has reduced the number of layouts that I make for the month but I think it makes it less rigid for me. I don’t worry about the dates or if there was a slow week, etc. Some months have more but I would say I average about two 2 page layouts per month plus inserts and an enlargement or two (6x8 or 5x7 photos). I want to try some flip outs in 2023. jeremysgirlI did a monthly format but some months I only have 2 pages and some months I have 5. I don't do only one spread for the whole month. I just do whatever I have enough pictures for. sleepingbooty Monthly PL-ers can do multiple spreads, not just the one. This is kinda obvious now that you all responded, but it makes a ton of sense and allows me to let go of the limitations with week by week. I love it! Thanks for the response and clarity. I definitely think this is a better route for me. Glad this approach clicks with your documenting mindset! It really is a wonderful system. Very liberating. And it allows to have some photography fun, too. I'm unashamed of dedicating one whole side of 9x12 page protector to a local art exhibit. If several paintings spoke to me and I want to record the outside of the museum and perhaps stopping by the coffee shop on the way back from the exhibit, it all fits. One more question - do you all date anything within the month? i.e. put a date stamp or other something on specific stories or pages? I add dates for the things I want to keep the date of. News events like Ukraine war updates? Yep. A selfie because I was feeling myself with my freshly cut hair? Sure. A spread dedicated to the growth of strawberry plants all the way to the moment they're picked and eaten? Yes, because the fun is in following the evolution. But many smaller pictures don't require dates for me, like jeremysgirl said. Definitely don't add dates for my current faves. The monthly approach enjoys a more loose, free feel overall.

Which album are you using?12x12. How are you getting your cards this year? (kit sub, one-off purchases, stash)I don't plan on using cards. Maybe some cut-outs, but I plan on using Mosaic Moments paper as my base. What's your favourite thing about PL?I want to scrapbook more than just our vacations, so hopping into PL this year! (Well, tomorrow. ) What's your main struggle with PL? Nothing...yet. I'm sure there will be weeks where I'm scrambling for ideas (my plan is to do one page a week). Do you have any stories you're already looking forward to document in 2023?DH might be taking a Zamboni-driving lesson, and we go apple picking and to the pumpkin patch every year. Got any ideas for your title page?No idea. Looking forward to all the inspiration!
