Love your spreads! How did you find Happy Fat? I really like Sofie Hagen but I've not read her book.

I subbed to a Stories by the month kit at the start of January and I have *loved* using it. I've used everything (apart from some of the word strips) I love it! I've not been very strict about this version of PL. I'm not doing week by week, I'm just popping in stories as and when. Loving the process. It's very quick and dirty - print a photo and add a few words, not a huge amount of thought goes into it, but I've got a whole month done and that's the most I have ever achieved in any attempt of PL so I'm happy.

I'd love to see what you've done with these kits. I really toyed around with the idea of approaching it like you are this year. At the end of the day, I decided to go back to a more traditional approach.

I loved your January spreads, jeremysgirl !! I'm just getting my January photos ready to send to Persnickety Prints, so I'm behind, like always, but it's all good. I'm still finishing 2022. I started using Freckled Fawn this year, too, and am really enjoying the kits. (I can't wait to actually use them to scrap photos. )

(I can't wait to actually use them to scrap photos. ) You know the pocket kit and the 6x8 papers were just enough for these 10 pages. I liked that I used up almost every last bit. And because there were no 4x6 cards I pulled out all my stamps too. I just loved making my own cards and getting mileage out of my stamps.

Now that January has passed, has anyone's initial answers changed? Are you refocusing the way you want to set up your January pages after you've looked at them? Have you not even looked at them yet? I am in the haven't looked at them camp. I have one page design chosen as I have a lot of 3x4 cards to include, but all I've done is put the cards into the page protector and throw the page protector into a box that I'll go to when I'm ready to start working on this year's album. I'm still happily working on 2022, although I am starting to get the urge to play with current year photos.

Or do you pick your pictures and then choose cards? That's how I always do it. But I'm open to considering new ideas.

On this particular page I have put cards in before photos, but it's a journaling heavy page and I know I only have a couple of photos to go with this story. The story is spread across a week, so I have a journaling card for each day already filled in. I've also thrown a couple of "week in review" type embellishments so I remember to use them when I finish this page. My normal process is photos first, but occasionally I will take a card and use that as a prompt to start my page, eg I had a 4x6 card with a space for what I ate every day, so I started my pocket page with that card and then tried to remember to take photos of my meals that week to add to it.

I got a late start this year because I forced myself to complete DD before beginning PL23, but I’m basically all up to date now! At least I have all cards & photos in place, what I think of as the framework or base. I need journaling and embellishments.
I’m really pleased with how it’s come together! I’m doing weekly 12x12 after years of monthly. I wasn’t sure I’d taken enough pics to fill in the spaces because our January was so low key and repetitive and I’d been focused on finishing DD and not thinking about PL.
But I did it! And it led to me needing to stretch my storytelling net to find content - which is exactly why I wanted to go back to weekly. I ended up finding stories to add that really help show what our family has going on, little things that I would not have immediately thought to include if I wasn’t searching for more content. Example: we’ve been married nearly 25 years (next month!) and registered for really good high quality flatware that would last for ages. Well, in the last couple years 75% of the forks have gone MIA, and suddenly the butter knives are also endangered. We are constantly scavenging around for utensils now. It’s crazy to me that the kids are as old as they are (13-21!) and we’re NOW dealing with lost flatware. It’s a frequent talking point in our house. So anyway, I took a photo of the silverware tray in the drawer, with full slots of big and small spoons, with the other three slots for dinner & salad forks and knives all empty. 😂 It’s the perfect kind of story to include in PL.
And, it’s all from stash. I’m not against getting new stuff if I see stuff I love, but I’m very much looking forward to using a lot of what I’ve accumulated. FUN! I have always loved PL, but reverting back to my roots with it is bringing me big time joy. 😄

honeypea - I love that!! I love the silverware story (so could relate when my kids were living at home as teens- and that’s a perfect thing to include in PL! and so happy it’s bring you joy. Yay! And congrats again on DD being done. I’ve set mine aside for now. It’s my first year and I kinda lost steam. My current craft area is too cramped. I like my projects to sit out and switch back and forth instead of putting things away and I already have OLW and my weekly PL out for now. My PL is up to date- jeremysgirl had asked us to post our January pages if we wanted so I will do that later this afternoon as I’m on my way out the door now.

My PL process is kind of different- I select papers and cards/colors first. Then based on that I chose my photos and then subtract out cards/papers if I have more pics I want to include. This helps me have direction for how I want to print my photos - some little to fit certain cards, etc.
After that I add embellishments and stamp on cards and then finish with journaling.

I am so glad to hear honeypea that doing January has brought back the joy for you. And super yay on using stash. That is awesome. I know it always feels good to make a dent in my stash. I think that's why I got excited this month to use my stamps so much. There are some I've had my eye on but I hate to buy them and use them only a couple of times.

That is hilarious, as I am experiencing the same issue as well! I have two teenagers and a toddler, and last year the silverware (spoons specifically) started to disappear. I found some in my son's room, but most are lost forever. It was so bad, Santa brought me some new sets in my stocking this past Christmas! 🎅 Congrats on finishing DD and your upcoming anniversary too!

honeypea - congrats on getting caught up and using your stash! That's my goal but I haven't done anything yet for 2023 except for one 4x6 card. I can totally relate to missing flatware too, my husband is the culprit! He takes it to work with his lunch and forgets to bring it back. Fortunately I can still find ours on eBay for pretty cheap.

Ok, I finally took pictures of my pages to date for 2023 so I’m sharing here. I also put them in my Instagram but I’m not sure how long I’ll leave it public so I’ll just post the pics here. Starting backwards from last week…

More paper person with some of the AE remember kit. I’ve found I don’t actually like using PP so I have to make an effort to include pieces.

It's March now and I'm wondering if anyone did their February pages. I did mine last weekend. I did not pull out my stamps this month. I found between this month's Freckled Fawn kit and AE Story Kit, I had plenty of goodies to make my pages. I also completed them in record time too. I'm still not sure how I feel about that. I don't know if it was just mania pushing me forward or what. I definitely don't think they were my best work, but they are finished so I'm just going to go with it. Although I will say that I'm hanging onto a whole bunch of old Story Kits from when I was subscriber last year and I finally feel like I need to pull them out and like paget just try to incorporate them into my PL. I decided this weekend, I would go through my stash and see what I have. I have a hard time sometimes mixing and matching things. I tend to stick to my kit and not veer away from it. I am a very linear thinker and a small stash scrapbooker and it really works with my brain to work within certain perimeters. Anyway, I'll upload some pics and share.

jeremysgirl I think your pages look great! I love how you combined the XO kit with other supplies. As I’ve said before, combining things together is like one of my favorite parts of scrapbooking. I have a page I did last week combing an AE story with some more Paperperson I wanted to use up- this one was easy as everything was in shades of blue. Maybe you could start that way- pick one or two colors and gather things together in that color scheme and then choose supplies from that for what works with your page/week. I’m done with my February pages- I already added some Feb. to my last “page dump” so there’s only two I could share.

jeremysgirl - I love your pages! I agree, I don't think you needed any stamping either. I am finally editing photos for January, I have the first 2 weeks done and put into the album, now I just need to get the other pockets filled. I've been enjoying the photo editing process and am going to ride that wave until I burn out on it again. I've found I can edit photos while watching my trash TV shows (Real Housewives & I'm trying to catch up on all the VPR drama) better than when I'm watching a scripted show, so if you have any trash TV I should watch, let me know! I also signed back up for Elle's Studio because I absolutely love the cards this month and the birthday discount they're having this month helps too.
