I’ve spent my whole life as an invisible person. Even here, although I joined 2 peas 21 years ago, was prolific on the boards, and kept my username the same. I was fat for more than 30 years and that makes society see past you.
Does it bother me? Yes. I have spent my life being the person who is left out and uninvited. Strangely, or not so strangely, since I’ve lost weight people treat me differently.

I LOVE IT! Mid-50s, here, and the invisibility is so liberating!
When I stop to help tourists who look lost, nobody thinks I have nefarious motives.
I can talk to other dog-walkers on the street and not have to worry that someone's going to think I'm hitting on them - nor do I have to worry about their hitting on ME.
As someone upthread said, I have fewer f***s to give, so I do as I please (kindly, though, because that's the type of person I strive to be).
Weirdos are less likely to follow me home.
At work, I feel valued for my expertise and experience, not for being a "shiny new thing."
It's not that I was any kind of bombshell as a younger woman, but there are certain ugly things that happened (and other ugly things that I worked to keep from happening) that I just don't have to worry about anymore. It's amazing.
