I like to see my stamps and have them “in my face” so I remember to use them and easily see what I have. I use clear fridge bins. I like to organize mine by company because my mind just works that way- I do not want to break the stamps out of the their sets for organization. I don’t have any matching dies for stamps.

Wooden stamps are in an Alex drawer - holiday ones are on the bottom layer and I have a clear tray on top of them with the sentiment and more everyday stamps
Clear stamps - if they have matching dies, then they are in an open plastic box/basket with the dies sorted by theme. If not they are in another box/basket sorted by theme again. I cut down 8.5x11 page protectors (basically in half) and slip the stamps into those. I made dividers from cardstock - nothing fancy

I guess I’m fancy—plastic storage envelopes with cardstock inserts, matching dies if any behind them in bins, though not fridge bins. Arranged by manufacturer, mostly all together, but all-sentiment sets and background stamps have their own categories. I got all organization-happy several months ago and moved pretty much EVERYTHING into envelopes, even new things I hadn’t used. There’s at least one set I’ve since realized was probably a shopping mistake and I really wish it were still sealed on its factory packaging to increase resale value. Now I have a separate bin for new things — still sealed

Um, shoved here, there, and anywhere I can stash them. It’s not a very effective system….

Wood-mounted stamps are in two Sterilite-type containers: the flatter ones are in a set of 4 plastic drawers, and the chunkier ones are in a clear plastic organizer tote (maybe one of the Art Bin ones). The wood-mounted stamps are organized by size (as in "what fits where", like a jigsaw puzzle, LOL). The only exception to that is that my wood Christmas stamps are all together in one drawer. My clear stamps are in two zippered 3-ring binders (like "Trapper Keepers") and mounted on cling pages made for that purpose, with page protectors over them (regular 8.5x11 page protectors, not the scrapbook type). I created a sort of index for each binder so I know where to find everything. but I can also just leaf through the binders. The clear stamps are loosely organized by theme, but I did not break the sets apart. ETA: cbscrapper, mine were pretty much like yours up until about a year ago when I re-did the clear stamps and put them into binders.

I started card making more than 3 decades ago, when I was a young mom, and I have been collecting stamps ever since. I now have an enormous stamp and die collection. Bins would take up far too much room. So would every other typical storage system. I used to keep my stamps (wood mounted back then) in stacked clear plastic drawers with labels that listed holidays/seasons, etc. The stamps were stored in layers in the drawers, and it was a pain to find what I wanted. When we got ready to move halfway across the country, I unmounted all my wood stamps and turned them into peel and stick. I put all my stamps, both rubber and clear stamps, in binders. This system has worked very well for me. I have category tags on each binder. Most binders are 12x12, the old Crop In Style binders, no longer available. I use zippered school binders for My Favorite Things and stamps from a few other manufacturers. All my stamps are in pockets with their stamped image. I keep the dies separate in die storage Art Bins, again, labeled so I can find what I want fast. The ArtBins are getting hard to find and are more expensive, so I moved some of my cheaper Tuesday Morning dies onto magnetic sheets in envelopes.
Despite my huge collection, I can find whatever I want extremely fast. My binders are on shelves, with their tags plainly showing. I can remove a binder, flip through the pocket pages, and find the perfect stamp to use very quickly. There is no other system that would work well for such a huge collection. At least not for me.

I'm interested to see how everyone stores their stamps as this is one area in my storage I know I need to improve, what I have it just not quite working. I currently have mine stored in a closed lid container (kind of like a shoebox but bigger) with my stamps in loose categories according to how I search for them. I have all the different sizes together, so a 2x3 and a 6x8 will be in the same place. I have a mix of packaging, some still original manufacturer packaging, some in FJ or Avery Elle pockets, or the slip in SC stamp sleeves.
My Christmas stamps are stored separately, in with my Christmas embellishments. If I want something I know is on those sets, like a number, I can easily access them.
I use my stamps often, and find my categories still work well, but the actual container they are in is not ideal, but finding a solution that still keeps my stamps in closed storage is proving a challenge.

I do use the fridge bins and mine are all arranged by category except Lawn Fawn & Pinkfresh - they have their own section. I do keep Christmas stamps in a separate bin with all Christmas dies, embossing folders, etc. I started this last year & love it! Shakti - I also have a separate bin for new things now too so it will remind me to use them!!

About 1/2 of what I have are newer SU style, so in DVD cases. They are in 3 wall mounted pottery barn kids cubby shelves that I bought about 15 years ago (probably made for dvd or game cases, they fit perfectly). They are metal so were also great when I just had them sitting on my kallax unit. Each one holds 100 cases and coordinating dies are just on the shelf next to them. Since those were full, I found some galvanized wall cubbies that hold about 36 sets each plus room to layer some coordinating punches on top of the sets.
My individual wood stamps are stacked 3 deep in Ikea Helmer drawer units, sorted into categories. I have 3 completely full and 2 more available for future that I keep other supplies in now. Love these, except I know the price on them more than doubled last time I looked at them.
Old SU wood mount stamps are on a shelf in a closet, sorted into categories again.
Cling stamps are categorized and in their original packages and stored upright in bins that are approx 7" W x 12" L x 6" H so they fit nicely on my shelves.
I sell off old stamp sets here and there so I have always kept sets together and in original packages if I can.

i have a few wood mounted stamps that i keep in a multi-tier fishing tackle box. that's how few of those i have.
the rest of my stamps are cling stamps and they are mounted on 7x8 placards. each placard is in a clear sleeve. i have those standing upright in a basket that allows me to easily leaf through them.
the remainder of stamps are my old Technique Tuesday clear alphabet stamps set. most are new. they are in binders that i haven't touched in years. those are the next things to be purged. i can't believe i paid that much for those things at the height of TT's popularity.

Mine are in those fridge bin containers in the plastic sleeves. Still haven't found a good way to sort them, though. How do you sort the stamps that have sentiments for all occasions & flowers and streetlamp (for example) on them? Do you sort under sentiments? Floral? Other?
The few wooden stamps I haven't unmounted are in a paper tray in my kallax.

I would sort under sentiments but my stamp collection is small enough to just flip through. If it were larger? I would probably stamp the flowers and streetlamp, file the stamped images in the floral and ?whatever a streetlamp would be? sections with a note that the stamps are in the sentiments section

I only put "pure" sentiment sets in my sentiment category. I know people talk about making a catalog of stamps. I don't feel the need to do that overall at this point, but I do sometimes think it would be good to have something like that for the sentiments that are in mixed image/sentiment sets -- I think I tend to lose track of them when I'm looking for something for a certain kind of card.

I REALLY need to make a new post of this, but up until recently when my 2nd only 'reel' got caught in the algorithm a few times, it was my highest liked post. I love these storage units from the container store. I highly recommend them. They work great for 4x6 (in the 'double' drawers) and 6x8 (in the 'triple' drawers) stamps. I use smaller fridge bins for my 3x4 stamps and store them in large postcard sleeves from bags unlimited (though they do fit 4x6 stamps quite snug if you don't like the extra wiggle room in the standard pocket sizes) and store them on a small Kallax unit from Ikea (I use the H shelves and can fit 4 bins in each one that way). The 3x4 stamps aren't as pretty to look at as the Elfa units from the container store, though. http://instagr.am/p/BnZK7fpHU0A

Thanks for your responses. My stamps & supplies are housed in & on a (long-ago discontinued) PB Bedford 5-(wide/shallow)drawer cabinet that resembles a counter-height flat file. A clear freezer bin containing photopolymer stamp sets (in original packaging) sits on top, while the first drawer of the cabinet holds inks, blocks, embossing powders, & other stamp-related tools. Wood-mounted rubber stamps occupy the remaining four drawers with one layer of stamps per drawer for ease in finding & returning stamps. I also keep a shallow wide bowl on my primary work surface to gather stamp-related supplies in hopes of not misplacing them.

Loosely I store them by theme. Scrapbooking stamps are together. Then the cardmaking categories are sentiments, nature, animals, florals, geometrics, Christmas, autumn, etc. Most are in fridge bins in envelopes with matching dies, stencils, embossing folder and/or glimmer plates.
I have found I am not using many of my stamps to their potential. For example, I rarely pull a sentiment from set, a background from another set, and a focal point from a third set. But I want to! To solve this, I have been inventorying my stamps, dies, embossing folders and stencils in Color My Life. Using the tag feature is an important part of my plan. So now I can type in #geometric and #background and see all the possibilities in my stash. I can narrow by manufacturer or product type too. This will be particularly handy for sentiments, as they are scattered through so many stamp sets and dies. #sentiment, #miss, choose stamp and die set, and I can see it all and make my choices from there. I’m pretty excited about it.

I love these storage units from the container store. I highly recommend them. Would you mind telling me the dimensions and what the name is of the Elfa storage? I have a spot I think that would work in but it might be too wide for the spot and I couldn't find this during a quick container store internet search. Thanks!

I splurged on the glossy file cards and plastic pockets (Stick N Store) sold by The Stamp Market. SB.com has a version as well now. I use the front and back of the card, whether that is to group similar stamp sets or to fit a large set (I'll cut 6x8s down in half). I keep metal dies on 5x7 magnetic sheets from Amazon put into plastic sleeves from Avery Elle. Both the stamps and the dies are stored upright in two clear refrigerator bins, divided by manufacturer--because that is how my brain works. If any dies pair with the stamps, I just file them together. It's easy to flip through and see what I have. I do kind of wish I had a way to organize by sentiment, too. That could be a long project where I make reference pages in a little booklet or something. Hmmmmmm.

In two containers like these
One container is more for planner items, alphas, and numbers. Other container is more for scrapping.
I use these storage pockets
I have Becky Higgins Project Life dividers I never used. So I put file folder label stickers on the top of each divider and labeled them. They stick out a few inches above the pockets. They are mostly organized by season. So if it's Halloween or Thanksgiving stamps, they are in the fall category.
Mixed in with stamps are also some metal dies and planner stickers. I use the same storage pockets. Mostly smaller sized dies like alphabets are in the metal tubs. I do add washi tape to adhere the flap down for the metal dies. I don't use magnetic sheets. Bigger sized metal dies are in a 12x12 binder on magnetic vent covers.
One tub fits just right in a Kallax cube.
I don't have many stamp and die sets. Some dies are in the binder. Some dies are with the stamp set.
ETA: wood stamps are in a basket in my Expedit. I want to stamp the images I have, put that in a storage pocket, and organize them with the rest of my clear stamps. I don't have many, but forget to use them. I have done this for my roller stamps.

I have one of those carts from Michael's. DH is building me a custom unit for the top basket that will be split into two sides.
Right now my stamp and die sets and just stamps are in Avery Elle Extra Large Pockets (6 3/4 x 9 3/8) and the dies are on Lawn Fawn magnetic storage cards. I bought the 8x11 and cut it down in half but then ordered the 5x7 cards as well. I like how thick they are and how secure the dies are on the magnetic board.
The pockets are standing upright on the top shelf of the cart where the insert DH is making will go.

I am finding myself starting to think about my stamp stash in terms of collections or themes — didn’t mean or intend to; just kind of happened. It’s helped along, I think, by the industry hive mind — when Club Scrap, Paper Pumpkin, and My Monthly Hero all have scenic outdoorsy kits over a few months, I naturally (PI) start to think about cross-pollination and how to use them together. From there, it mentally becomes “The Outdoorsy Collection.” I think there’s also Birds, Bugs (mostly bees & butterflies), Balloons/Party, and Florals.
But I get the sense that if I tried to organize/store by these themes I would find way too many that didn’t fit neatly. I fear it would be very frustrating.
Anybody who does organize this way have any words of wisdom or warning? TIA.

Shakti - I organise loosely by theme (flowers, garden (which includes bugs), birds, animals, birthday, sentiments...) I also have seasonal categories (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall), Alphas, and two extra categories - Basics(the generic stamps that can work on any theme really) and Misc which is where everything else goes, lol My collection isn't huge so I don't stress overly about which category to put something. I try and put it in the category that I would probably look at first for that type of image...so butterflies and flowers I would put in garden if the main stamps were butterflies and in flowers if they were flowers. I did stamp ALL the sentiments and file the stamped cards in with the sentiments (and labelled with where the stamp is)
