I signed up for this today. I loved the color palette and the little bits of designs that they showed.
Also, I needed something to look forward to. I shattered my wrist on my dominant hand and just had surgery, so I wanted something to look forward to after some time to mend.
Anyone else signing up?

I am teetering. On the one hand, someone pointed out on the Crop & Create thread that it's as expensive for half the number of classes. On the other hand, for me at least, no Lawn Fawn and other cutesy critters. Concord and 9th has looked very interesting in Jennifer McGuire's videos.
The March 1 registration deadline for a late June event seems a little ridiculous. The March C&C will be my first big event like this and I'd love to be able to get through that and see how it goes before deciding.
I guess I can take a second, more careful look at the event site.

So, what exactly do they mean by "paper piecing"?

Their sneaks are very cute, but its a no for me. I already have a lemon die set, a camper die set, something similar to the terrarium and flower cover plates. I'm very excited for you seveerb , they put on a fun event and I love how they interact with all the attendees. I wish you a fast recovery and what a fun event to look forward too. I hope you'll share products and cards with us.

So, what exactly do they mean by "paper piecing"? Lots of die cuts that you piece together to make a design. At least that's my interpretation of it.

My friend calls paper piecing , when she stamps let say a girl on different papers so she can cut the dress from one , the collar from another one ...etc . Than she will glue them on on one girl that she stamped on a skin colored paper. But I think diecuts that you glue together should be the same thing we just don't really call it that. I would say Spellbinders has some die sets that I would call it paper piecing. spellbinderspaperarts.com/products/four-petal-bloom-reflection-etched-dies-from-the-four-petal-collection

There are a few sneak peeks if you click thru the slides on this post. As much as I really wanted to sign up, nothing really tickles my fancy so I'm passing. http://instagram.com/p/Co8iYSTMNVr

I guess I'm still very much on the fence.
The really intricate layered die cutting/paper piecing that Jennifer McGuire often demonstrates where you're placing tiny pieces together in an almost puzzle like way looks excruciating to me. Larger pieces that you arrange to create an image -- like an Altenew set with planters and foliage she showed a couple weeks ago -- look totally enjoyable to me.
Stitching does nothing for me. The turnabouts I've wanted a chance to play with for a while. Seems like a 50-50 toss up.

All the sneaks just look so much like summer. The last 6 months have been terrible for me and I am looking forward to brighter days ahead.

I thought I would try the fall Crop & create cards if I can get in. Doesn’t it sell out fast and Alumni get first opportunity?

I hope you enjoy it.
Paper piecing is not a new technique. It’s an old one being dusted off again. I used to love doing paper piecing with stamps.
I’d love to see your finished projects if you are allowed to post them. I’m curious to see if it’s like the paper piecing that I used to do, or if they have updated/altered it in some way.

Crop and create has alot of companies participating. Their pricing per class is too low compare to the value of the product you receive in your kit. Their event is US$290/kit. and with 15 classes it comes to $19.33/class kit. Each class has atleast 3-4 products. I really find crop and create way more underpriced and I am sure participating companies do not make enough money. And that is wrong to me. These companies put their best foot forward and do not earn much in turn (atleast that's what I guess based on the nos.). I might be in minority in here but I am so over all the fangirling in crop and create events. They are all about bigger events and it really puts me off. I feel so overwhelmed. I would rather support small events like C9, Pinkfresh, TE and see them thrive. These companies truly work hard to make their events successful and fun. Products are top notch and you know exactly what kind of products you will get. The instructors are usually amazing in these events. And if these companies make a little money for the work they do then that's fantastic.

Alumni do get first chance to purchase the event, but there are always many left over! Got it! Thanks! For this spring one I just signed up 2 weeks ago. And even Shakti got in after me. I think some people cancel or not paying the last payment so they drop out.

I decided to give the C9 event a go. This will be my first with them. I love their color pallets. I saw on JM’s chat with Greg from C9 that they are releasing 25 new colors in April. That’s crazy!

I don't think they would do it if they didn't. For one, I know they make money off the sales - after the last one (fall 2022), I went and spent $100 at Taylored Expressions because I wanted more of what I got in the class. Multiply that by 2,000 other customers who are doing the same thing. These companies also make these products for way less than what we pay for them. They can afford to let them go for a non-retail price and still make a profit. If that pulls in more business, all the better. Sometimes they also sell these products after the event. I did not even know about Honey Bee Stamps until my first C&C in 2021. I just spent over $50 there yesterday getting the inks I need for the March event. If I hadn't done the C&C I probably still wouldn't know they exist!

I suspect the markup on stamps, dies, and the like is around 50%.

That terrarium reminds me of something like this: www.jennifermcguireink.com/cards/thanks-plant-cards which seems sort of like making a collage with die cuts, which is very different, I suspect, from somthing like this www.jennifermcguireink.com/cards/thinking-of-you-card-wax-seals which looks like doing a jigsaw puzzle or something with die cuts. It also occurred to me that, back in the day, I did take classes in stamping techniques. Maybe, even if it's not in-person, attending sessions focused on this technique will give me valuable information to help me learn this skill. That was more or less the tipping point in deciding to register.

They companies must be making money off SCT or they wouldn’t continue to come back. Concord 9th has been in every Cardmaking class and they have their own events. If SCT wasn’t a money maker, wouldn’t they just drop the event?

I'm curious how Summer Camp works. I succumbed last week and decided to take part (even though I already have a lemon die set that I like). Incidentally, even though they say they'll add you to the waitlist, in actuality they still have spaces open in case anyone else wants to sign up.
Will they email a link to a FB group, and if so, does anyone recall how long before the event they did so last year?
Also, how long before the event did you receive your packages? And how much homework was there, lets say compared to a SCT C+CD event (if you've done one)?
Thanks much!

I'm really interested to hear what you think. I took the In The Classroom event in mid-March. I paid for the event in December. An update email was sent in mid-Feb with the link to the Facebook group. The kit was shipped about 2 weeks before the event but there was a delay because some of the new color stuff did not arrive on time. There was no homework for the event. There were printed instructions for each class in the box so you could do any of the class work ahead of time. Do you know who your camp counselor is yet?
