I don't usually participate on these threads, but I LOVED this book. Thought it was extremely well done.

I also read this book earlier. I gave it 4/5 stars, bc I was very annoyed at the end. Happy to discuss when we get there!

I understand the history, and understand her fear of him taking over - but no way in hell I would have left my kid in jail that long.

I will be reading the book by Anderson Cooper, but just signed up for Audible so that I can listen to this book while I unpack boxes. I may end up having to listen to all the books until I am unpacked and have the time to relax with a book. I will still participate in the discussions, if that’s okay.

Ok, Im all done and ready to discuss when the time comes.
I liked this book - I kinda had predicted Mayas part in the whole story. I thought it was excellent in the way it was written.

I just finished it too. I also had suspicions that turned out to be correct. One thing that surprised me - and I guess I should put this into a hidden comment in case it bothers someone to know this ahead of time. Or maybe I was the only one to not know it. Spoiler: I was not aware that this book was written by two different people, one taking Olivia and one taking Lily. I saw the two names, and for some reason assumed one person had done graphics in the book. I have no idea why it didn’t click for me.
Since I was listening as I worked instead of reading the book, it was confusing to me at first, until I got used to the two voices and understood the premise. Had I read it and was able to look at a table of contents, it would have been a little more cohesive for me, but all in all, I thought it was very well done.
ETA: I looked into the book a bit more, which I admit that I should have done before reading it, and learned that the second author is trans themselves. Not that I knew any actual facts, but as I was listening to it, there was a feeling of someone very experienced in the process of going from male to female.

I will be reading the book by Anderson Cooper, but just signed up for Audible so that I can listen to this book while I unpack boxes. I listened to Mad Honey last week. The Anderson Cooper book sounds good, and I might download that next to listen to. I just love audiobooks, when I find the right ones. I so appreciate recommendations here.

Thank you for hiding the spoilers. I am about 1/2 way though the book. I'm enjoying it so far. It probably isn't a book I would had normally picked up and read but thanks to the book club, I decided to give it a go and so far, I am glad I did. I'm looking forward to finishing and discussing more.

I've edited my post revealing part of the plot to put it into a spoiler - sincere apologies, I don't usually participate in these threads, but saw the title and had liked the book and clicked on it. I didn't realize the discussion didn't come until the end of the month.

I haven't read this thread as I wanted to avoid spoilers but I'm listening and have 5 hours left. I'll join in when I'm finished!

I'm finished and loved it. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I really liked the two authors discussing how the book came to be at the end.

I read this a while ago, but didn't really like it - felt like it was forced - like they decided on a topic and tried to craft a story around that topic, and it came off as forced and not very believable to me. I usually like Jodi Picoult books, though there are some I haven't and this is one I didn't.

I read this earlier this month and really enjoyed it. I love that she used a real person to write a person that represents them, their voice, their experiences, etc (purposefully trying to avoid spoilers here).

I felt Jodi picked a topic and possibly brought Jennifer on as a transgender woman for her insight.

They did not know each other personally prior to Jennifer's tweet.

I wonder the size of each of their fan bases? I never heard of Jennifer before. Maybe this was a way to reach more readers?

I wonder the size of each of their fan bases? I never heard of Jennifer before. Maybe this was a way to reach more readers? I’ve heard a few interviews about this. As Katiescarlett said, it’s Jenny who originally reached out to Jodi. It was just a simple Tweet—“hey, I had a dream about this.” Jodi saw the Tweet and they eventually decided on a collaboration. Jodi has been pretty vocal about her support of the LGBQT+ community and working with a member of that community definitely adds some authenticity to the new story. There also a lot of backlash from the LGBQT+ community when a cis author/musician/influencer/company seems to capitalize on the community. Here’s one other interview about the book. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/moms-dont-have-time-to-read-books/id1366633318?i=1000592799332

I usually like Jodi Picoult books, though there are some I haven't and this is one I didn't. I do agree with you that at times it did feel a little forced. However, I did like the story line and the courtroom drama and seeing how it would unfold and if Asher knew or not and all that. I did have an idea about what really happened to Lily and I was pretty spot on with my guess.
What I didn't like is all the details about how to keep and take care of bees. I understand Olivia was a bee-keeper so I expected some of that but I felt that the author spent about 2 months doing researching on this and felt she had to include every single detail about it to prove how much research she had done on the subject. It would have been better to leave out the deep dive details about bee-keeping and just talk about it in general terms (IMO).
I've only read one Jodi Picolult book before this and it was a LONG time ago (so this may be typical of her writing), but I was put off by the gratuitous and excessive use of the "f" word. I mean, it is okay, I'm not overly offended by the word in general, but it just seemed excessive, again IMO.
Overall, I'd give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

I usually like Jodi Picoult books, though there are some I haven't and this is one I didn't. Interesting, as this book would presumably come off as authentic since it was half written by a trans woman. But of course you are entitled to your opinion! I’m the one who recommended this book. As a cis woman trying to understand the transgender community, I found it very interesting. I was impressed that Jodi not only researched for the book, but did the collaboration with a member of the community who is an advocate for transgender rights. Years ago, I heard Jodi speak about her book House Rules. It was really interesting listening to her talk about how she goes about her research and how a story evolves from a topic that she’s interested in writing about. I like that she took it one step further with the collaboration. Lately I’ve been trying to read books that are more about a summer on Nantucket or women fighting with the resistance in WWII (both seem to be popular genres lately!)

Does anyone have the link to the amazon book club? I can't seem to find my way back to it. Are we going to discuss the book here or on Amazon?

I too am not sure if we will discuss here on on Amazon, but I don't see this book listed in the Amazon club (unless I am doing something wrong, which is quite possible)

I don't get how the Amazon Book Club works or why there are 3 books for this month--there hasn't been a post there in 22 days. I'm officially old if I don't get how a book club is run!
As I said, there aren't any new posts. And the only book for the month listed is the Vanderbilt book. I'd like to read that, but my library books are stacked up right now.
To get to the book club, click on the quick links across the top of the Amazon page. It's in the center for me. (I'm on my Mac.) Then again in the center is the quick link for Amazon Book Clubs. Then one step down from the quick links, it says "Create a Book Club" in orange. Next to that is "My Clubs". Click on My Clubs and then on 2 Peas Book Club. That's a lot of steps, but there we are!

Thanks disneypal but your link just took me to the Amazon Main Page. I was finally able to find the book clubs but I'm still not finding our specific club.

Thanks disneypal but your link just took me to the Amazon Main Page. I was finally able to find the book clubs but I'm still not finding our specific club. Thanks - that is weird - I tested the link after I posted it and it went to the book club but now when I click, as you say, it goes to the main page. But...once at the main page, click the 3 lines at the upper left, scroll down to books, then book clubs, then Amazon Book Clubs and if you have already joined the 2Peas book club, select My Clubs at the top, then 2Peas bookclub I'm just going to copy/paste the link this time. www.amazon.com/amazonbookclubs/detail/amzn1.club.bookclub.46c38892-99de-9d98-2c33-61d3035da08e?ref_=abc_aa_000_r_ds_csc_cdc
