This is the book I am going to read - I just downloaded it to my kindle.
I have no interest in the Vanderbilt family, and am a bit burnt out on Jodi Picoult.

I already read this which is why I suggested it. I also enjoyed one of the author's other books The Great Believers which takes place during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s.
I thought it was well written and I really like the way the author incorporated snippets of real cases of violence against women into the book...I made me reflect on how many big cases that have made major headlines...and also all those hundreds of thousands we'll never hear about.

When do we need to have the book finished? I figured it could be read at your pace and discussed in April Since people read at a different pace. This thread will be here even after April so if you don't finish it in April. :-) If you have other ideas for this, please share them! :-) We are making this club our own using suggestions from all over! :-)

It seems that it would be more productive conversation if we are all either at the same place in a book by the time the discussion starts, or finished. For example, in a an in person book club everyone should be done with the book by the date (or at least willing to have spoilers). Or Oprah’s online book club I think has discussions each week based on certain chapters.

I started this earlier in the week and it has really drawn me in. At the moment, I am only reading at bedtime, so I am not getting far each day. I think I will soon start reading during the day as well.

I read this already and really enjoyed it! True crime + podcast + New England boarding school is right up my alley.

I had high hopes for this book but didn't end up enjoying it.
I didn't care for the characters, there were too many elements, and it felt tedious.
If it hadn't been for the book club factor it would've been a dnf for me.

I had high hopes for this book but didn't end up enjoying it. That's a shame, I had the exact opposite experience. I think it should be required reading for all teenage girls.

To be honest, it was your opinion of this book that most influenced me to read it. I read* The Alice Network and then The Rose Code after your recommendations and really enjoyed them both. (*physical copies, still haven't mastered staying awake while listening to an audiobook😂) DH was quite keen to read this one after me, largely based on Rebecca Makkai being a Pulitzer prize finalist with The Great Believers, but he's unlikely to now. ETA: I'd still consider your recommendations in future though because two out of three ain't bad 😁

This was the book I was most interested in. Im not even halfway done, but the main character speaking to "you" is distracting. I keep trying to figure out if Im supposed to know who she is talking to.

littlemama I'm looking forward to when we can start discussing what we thought in a little more detail. Any thoughts on how/when we can accommodate discussion that includes spoilers styxgirl and pjaye ?

I'll start a thread with "spoilers" in the title then people can join in when they've finished it.

I’m reading it. Enjoying it so far. I like that it’s somewhat different. I get tired of the same format all the time.

I'll put it in a spoiler, in case you want to know 'You' is Denny Bloch, who was a music teacher at the school when Thalia was killed. There were rumours about their relationship
