December 7: EVOKE
This is the time of the year when the past seeps into the present as we bring out decorations of yore, dive into handed-down family recipes, meet with older generations as we visit for the holidays. It's also a period where we bring nature inside, adopt traditions from other places and come up with ways to celebrate beyond what's happening right here, right now. Let's look at the ways we evoke a special Christmassy feel.
Story prompt | What are you bringing to the conscious mind this December? Is it past generations through your cooking? Is it a place far away by adding a foreign holiday tradition to your celebrations? Is it a sense of extreme cosiness by simmering a special Christmas scent on the stove? Is it nature outside by choosing to have a real tree? Let your story bring to light how you're recalling precious memories or creating a specific ambiance.
Creative prompt | Underline these two worlds you're bringing together for December by doing a then/new, here/there or because-of-this/that page.
Song of the day:

We watched To All A Good Night yesterday (Miracles of Christmas on Movies & Mysteries). It's mid-tier. Good acting, good use of the evil developer trope, just not a wow movie (nor does the script try to be). If you like to craft along, this would be a good option. A word of caution: parental death and loneliness at Christmas. It's not memorable by any means but makes for a good single viewing. ETA: And To All A Good Night marks 30/40 of the new Hallmark holidays movies seen so far. I'm on a roll, darlings! I'm off to find Magic in Mistletoe that aired last night. Let's see if Hallmark has any hidden gems left this year.

If you attempted Jennie Rey's ornament pocket from the prep day, did your class download include a file with the harlequin edge? All I'm seeing is a cropped ornament and a cropped pocket with a zig zag edge. I hope you've managed to track down the harlequin edge you wanted! Did you reach out to her on IG to see if she may have forgotten to upload the file? This is why I watched it too. This was my first Hallmark movie....ever... (please don't boot me from the thread!). Another Trekkie here! Why would we boot you? Foot in the door, baby, foot in the door! And I started my gift wrapping page. Will show some photos. Have another question. You sound like you have a very busy programme this December! Alright then, pop the question (he). Let's hear it! ohhhhhhh goodness! don't watch any others, you'll only find disappointment Psssshhhh, jenna, there's like... *counts on fingers* at least another 4 really good ones!

Here is the wrapped gift interactive page. I don't have eyelets so would cutting a bunch of small circles to stack and punching the hole again help with keeping it from ripping? Eta this is for where the twine is pulled through.

The Friends & Family Christmas preview dropped! Finally, a lesbian Christmas love story at Hallmark. And both leads are queer.

Yes, stacked circles should help, I have some old ring reinforcers on non-scrappy papers that are basically thick card that work fine for the amount of use they get.

I have finally made one page in my album for this year and it was a struggle although I mostly like how it turned out. I'm hoping now that I've got one done it will be easier to get my creative muscles working again. We're off to brave the shops today for some wrapping paper and to drop off some presents for the wishing tree (gift drive organised by the Salvation Army), and then I'm hoping to get at least something else in my album this afternoon.

Thanks once again for the great idea, sleepingbooty/ Then/Now + There/Here + That/So This is a great prompt for my stories!

I finally caught up with this thread. You guys are doing awesome and have some real Christmas spirit going on. I've been taking pics and typing journaling but I never scrapbook until new years weekend. I did however manage to get a pic with Santa and Mrs. Claus last weekend at a holiday market. She told me I'm definitely on the nice list. But then last night I went to a Krampus festival and parade and he told me I was definitely naughty. Every year I buy a new front door mat and I found the perfect one for this year.

Cool page pantsonfire . I think your plan for reinforcing the holes will work well. jeremysgirl Santa looks trustworthy so I’m guessing you’re probably on the nice list, for now at least Our annual Christmas concert by the gay men’s choir was excellent, probably the most fun lineup they’ve done in the last decade. They sang almost all of my favorite carols, the singalong was a medley of easy fun songs, and we took our rainbow bells to jingle bell rock, and they finished with the Village People’s Disco Santa/N.O.E.L again. So fun. There was a silly Elton John close-harmony Hanukkah (Elton Johnukkah) medley too.

Love seeing everyone's pages and Christmas photos! I've yet to get anything accomplished with the exception of taking photos. I plan to create my own resin covers again and the first round didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. So that's today's plan. I may or may not get the insides prepped as well.

This weekend has been absolutely full. And it was great. I have like 4-5 events to document, photos, and ephemera.
I can't wait to get back at it. I still am working on story 6 that I started Friday.
Hallmark movie update: I really wanted to hate Our Christmas Mural but it was good dammit. I may have cried a little.
That lead is smokin'.
Off to bed! I ran a 5k this morning (my first since 2017 or 18). I'm going to feel it tomorrow. I was 13/26 in my age group and in the top 2/3rds of all runners so not bad. Super proud of myself for finishing and having a freaking blast.

I did it! I finished DD2022 yesterday!
I flipped through the finished book last night, and it's a good mix of super crafty and super simple and everything in between, but my big takeaway is that I really do like the simple pages best. My favorite page is a simple 4x4 card stuck to the middle of a piece of pretty paper with journaling on it. Fastest page I put together. I also love full page photos with digital art and journaling. I don't do either of these enough. Lesson learned!
On to 2023!

I just watched the video from day 11 (ali) and I am floored. I had no idea what to do with the tree that I prepped and this is just perfect.
I'm excited to put this together. I don't have a story for it but it will be great for a day when I have just one photo. I might be able to do the band concert with this and make a pocket behind the triangle photo to put the program and the ticket. We'll see!!
I have loved taking my lunch to watch these videos.

I hope everyone is doing well and still trucking along! I have a bunch of holes from last week from down and out migraine days but am hopeful for this upcoming week. I need to get my journaling printed so I can share some pages with y'all. Also deciding whether to do an entire day about a French musical I'm obsessing over when I don't.. y'know, actually speak French but it's become such a big part of December a mere 11 days in that I really feel like it's necessary 😭🤣 Also x2, is anyone else completely yolo-ing their days? I'm doing next to zero prep and really just sit down at my desk in the evening and think "OK WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS DAY" and start cutting into stuff. It's been weird because I still have that nagging feeling of "if I don't like this I'm wasting product" while simultaneously enjoying just using and making, yknow? I've read 3 of my Christmas books and DNF'd a couple. ..then fell off the wagon and read non Christmas stuff but hockey themed so I'm using the ice as a win for cold weather

I wasn’t digging it at first (I don’t do product play) because the circles were flipping everywhere as Ali was working and very fiddly when turning the page. But, then she added the clear page behind and it’s awesome! I may try to mimic in some way. Definitely going to do a triangle page, that looks so good!

I'm hoping now that I've got one done it will be easier to get my creative muscles working again. Oh yay, Chinagirl828 ! It's so hard to get back in the swing of things. I'm glade you like the end result, that's all that matters. Makes the struggle to get there extra worth it. Did your shopping go well? Did you found your gift wrap? This is going to be the first story in my album this year, I think. My brother sent me a trippy YouTube link of our childhood home last weekend that is up for sale again, and the people who have been living there have not changed one single thing in that house. Sooooo many memories popped up! My dad sent me some photos of our Christmas in that house, and I've been non-stop bombarded by memories I haven't thought about for years for the last week. Thanks once again for the great idea, sleepingbooty/ Then/Now + There/Here + That/So This is a great prompt for my stories! My pleasure! And what a coincidence... How lucky not only to have this story to tell but to have the video of your barely touched childhood home! It must be such a trip down memory lane. I bet you'll be exchanging anecdotes about your childhood with your family all the way through the end of the month. How absolutely amazing (and incredible). Did you save the video and/or take screenshots? Here is the wrapped gift interactive page. I don't have eyelets so would cutting a bunch of small circles to stack and punching the hole again help with keeping it from ripping? Eta this is for where the twine is pulled through. I don't even think you need a bunch of punched circles to make a decent enough reinforcement. Just try to make one reinforcer per hole with thick cardstock and call it a day. If you see a bit of damage over time, you can always add another reinforcer on top to cover the damage. I think you'll be fine! And I forgot to say how cute this interactive "present" is! It's both a gift box and two Christmas trees to unfold. Super duper fun and cute. I did however manage to get a pic with Santa and Mrs. Claus last weekend at a holiday market. She told me I'm definitely on the nice list. But then last night I went to a Krampus festival and parade and he told me I was definitely naughty. Aww, this looks like so much fun, jeremysgirl ! Don't listen to Krampus. He wants good girls to think they're naughty so he can put them in his bag! I'm pretty sure you've made the good list but when in doubt, it makes for a great DD story. I guess you'll know on the 25th what Santa really thinks. Our annual Christmas concert by the gay men’s choir was excellent, probably the most fun lineup they’ve done in the last decade. Every single time you post something from this choir, joblackford , I swear... I'm ready to hop on a plane and go to a concert myself. They sound and look amazing in every video you've posted of them over the years. Love, love, love. Big time. I adore the Elton Johnukkah pun, by the way. Maybe someone will upload that medley to YouTube eventually? Would love to see it. This weekend has been absolutely full. And it was great. I have like 4-5 events to document, photos, and ephemera. You busy bee, you! So much to document, so much to look back on. Major congrats on doing so well on your 5K, especially after not running for a long time. That's incredible. I hope you're not too sore today. If you are, I hear hot cocoa helps with the muscles. Did you get a medal for this run? Also deciding whether to do an entire day about a French musical I'm obsessing over when I don't.. y'know, actually speak French but it's become such a big part of December a mere 11 days in that I really feel like it's necessary 😭🤣 You can't just mention obsessing over a French musical and then not saying which French musical you're talking about... Come on, spill ze beans, I must know! Also x2, is anyone else completely yolo-ing their days? I'm doing next to zero prep and really just sit down at my desk in the evening and think "OK WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS DAY" and start cutting into stuff. It's been weird because I still have that nagging feeling of "if I don't like this I'm wasting product" while simultaneously enjoying just using and making, yknow? Girl, I'm YOLO-ing life these days, not just December Daily. When does one ever become a proper adult? I feel like I'm stumbling through life like an overgrown toddler who hasn't had a nap. I am about to join you on the cut-before-you-think front and whatever, I've decided paper is my pacifier. It'll work out or I'll find another pretty paper.

The program is on this page www.seattlechoruses.org/2023/09/09/a-treemendous-holiday/ and there's a link to buy tickets at the top which includes an option for livestream tickets. It's for a good cause! and with replay options available too. But eventually they might upload the best songs to their YT channel. Santa Lost a Ho (audience replies: Oh no, where'd the other HO go?!) was also a good one.

Then on the way home we stopped by our local little shops where they have a monthly market and wandered around all the stalls. We found some wrapping paper we both liked so it will be reindeers on navy under our tree this year.

It's for a good cause! and with replay options available too. I was going to purchase tickets and then I read the warning that it was livestreamed in real time, no 24h catch-up or other clause. Noooo, I'll be fast asleep, still tipsy and with a full belly by the time this starts (9h difference between our time zones). Ugh, someone find a way to time travel! (Thanks so much for linking me up. I wish there was a 24h window to catch up on the concert. It looks so fun and I have nothing like this where I live. Somebody needs to tell them to sell January tickets to a repeat watch available for 1 weekend only!) Molière l'opéra urbain! Got me over here looking up how much could a flight to Paris really be from California. A lot. The answer is quite a lot. Take a trip booty, and tell me how beautiful everyone is 😂😂😂 Of course, OF COURSE, it's Dove Attia's new musical. He's the king of French musicals. Have you seen any of his other musicals (Mozart, l'Opéra Rock, Le Roi Soleil, Les Dix Commandements) ? All the big ones were taped and sold on DVD/BR. And of course, I'll be eventually seeing Molière, l'Opéra urbain. I need to figure out if I wait for the national tour or do one of the 2024 Paris dates. If you like the Molière era, you must see his Roi Soleil musical (Louis XIV being the employer of Molière). It has one of France's most iconic love songs, Mon Essentiel (I just checked and it's already 18 years old, eep *checks laugh lines in the mirror*). Play the first few notes to anyone in France and they'll start singing it. The shopping went well, we went to a small shopping strip rather than one of the big shopping centres and it was less busy than I expected. Then on the way home we stopped by our local little shops where they have a monthly market and wandered around all the stalls. We found some wrapping paper we both liked so it will be reindeers on navy under our tree this year. What a lovely day for soaking up the Christmas spirit (and finding what you like/need)! What are Christmas markets like down under? I'm guessing no piping hot mulled wine or roasted chestnuts? I did it! I finished DD2022 yesterday! I flipped through the finished book last night, and it's a good mix of super crafty and super simple and everything in between, but my big takeaway is that I really do like the simple pages best. I join you on the simple-pages-are-beautiful bench. Gotta love letting a favourite pattern paper shine or carefully adding that one embellishment, a simple stitch and call it a day. It can be so delicate and pretty, I totally agree. Will you be sharing your favourite page(s) from your 2022 album with us?

I'm 3/4 of the way through a book that was in my Christmas TBR, I definitely added on recommendation of other Christmas readers. It does not take place anywhere near Christmas. It starts in March with a snowstorm goes through the fall. That's it. Doh! Snow = Christmas, I'm calling it. I've been doing so well with planning my pages and jotting down stories. Had a great time shopping with my teens on Saturday then my dad called with horrible family drama news. I feel like I've been punched in the gut. Just sad. Not sure how I'm going to feel about this month now.

December 8: MAP
This is the season of family visits, roadtrips and planning events. We're mapping things out, whether it's the road to reach a special location or fun activities ahead. Maybe your family is spread apart around the world due to work, moves and life changes. Maybe you've scheduled fun detours on the way to see friends for the holidays. Maybe you're already thinking 2024 through. Whatever it is, let it guide you for today's prompt.
Story prompt | Make a mind map for the season. What's the guiding adjective this year? The most wonderful time of the year indeed? Maybe stressful or expensive? Inspiring or colourful? Map out all the things related to your leading word such as everything you're loving about the current season. What you're purchasing for this holiday season (gifts, food, tickets to events). Your favourite Christmas trends and seasonal illustrations on social media. Have fun with this one! Alternatively, use an actual map and make it your own for today's project.
Creative prompt | Get those inks and stamps out and look for all the lines and arrows at your disposal to create your festive mind map. If you're working on a geographical map idea, can you use creative ways to make it (using an electonic die-cutting machine to cut a map of your country/the world for ex.)?
Song of the day:

Much love, janamke. It sounds like it's pretty serious. I hope you'll be ok and that what is unfolding in your family will be met with comfort and mutual support as you brave this tempest together. I'm very sorry this is happening to you and your loved ones.

Coming out of lurk mode to report I finally figured out the foil/print/cut of Jennie Rey's ornament.
If you decide to attempt, be sure and use the download of the entire prep day package. When I downloaded just hour 7, there were files missing. I didn't have any instructions in my download but I figured it out. You only need the Silhouette files, they are layered, you'll need to separate the layers as you do each item.
What I learned about foiling: 1. The medium size tip works best. 2. Be sure to change the settings to sketch vs cut! 3. Make sure the carrier for the foil tip is firmly in place. I thought mine was shimmying a bit so I secured it with a bit of washi tape to be sure. 4. Make sure you are in a good mood before beginning. It took me a good chunk of the weekend to figure out all the steps and correct every little problem as I went through the process. It required a lot of patience!
I'm going to practice my newly learned skills on some other digital files. Fingers crossed.
Happy to answer any questions if you have them!
