We haven't talked jello molds in ages, so here's a horrifying recipe for a cranberry strawberry jello monstrosity made with Miracle Whip. Not Cool Whip, which is stabilized fake whipped cream, but Miracle Whip, the tangy mayonnaise. Served with more mayo on the side. WHY? Was this a mistake that got passed along? Judging by the look on That Midwestern Mom's face, yes. A big mistake. I laughed and laughed. Her expressions told me everything I need to know about miracle whip (although WHY are people putting mayo in jelly salads??). That was a fun watch, and reminder that my childhood carrot and pineapple in lemon jelly is not so weird.

So update on what I thought was going to be a beautiful resin cover with pine greens and a bit of glitter and white snow...my 15 year looked at the cover and said it looks like a skull. Now everytime I look at it I can't unsee it...it looks a bit Voldemort like! So I did a couple more covers to see if I could get a color mix/style I like and they all look like garbage π so I think I'm digging into my stash and seeing if I have something different. Pretty sure I have an extra album around here that I'll use.

If you have Netflix, Virgin River has two new episodes out that are holiday driven. I love that show because it's like a Hallmark movie but in a series.
I watched them both last night and they are cute.
Then I switched over to Peacock to watch Genie. Melissa McCarthy is amazing. I do not believe this is a holiday movie though. Someone told me it was. I'm only a little way through it.

it looks a bit Voldemort like! Sounds like you've got the perfect album for your trip to do the Harry Potter stuff at Universal (or whatever else is going on these days).

Forgot to post the test pic for Luna's Christmas portrait in this thread. π² I got her a cute deer cape. It looks adorable so I need to figure out a forest-inspired dΓ©cor for her to pose in.

Help please! Last week I ran across a photo of someone's DD page that had a lovely Christmas tree made of small green layered tassels. I didn't save it!!! Now I can't find it anywhere. I don't know if it was on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. Has anyone seen this? Did you save the link?

That was a fun watch, and reminder that my childhood carrot and pineapple in lemon jelly is not so weird. Yes. That is the biggest question. Why? Although you (I) have to remember this is not a dessert, but a side dish salad to be served with savory foods. (why?!) Miracle Whip itself isn't bad when used as mayo on foods that should have mayo on/in them. And yeah, no, your childhood jelly is not terribly weird, although, was that served as a dessert or side dish? If you really want a laugh, this ambrosia salad video with the guy from GBBO: http://instagram.com/p/CzWXaFLrJzC There was also an article about Watergate Salad (pistachio instant pudding, pineapple, mini marshmallows, Cool Whip, pecans) in the NYTimes. Also not a dessert, someone described it as being just like putting corn on your plate with your turkey and stuffing. Yuck! With any luck this link will bypass their paywall if you want to know more: Watergate Salad NYTimes

Miracle Whip is an abomination to man, disgusting, and nothing like my beloved mayonnaise.

Jo, I take deep offense to you calling Miracle Whip a "tangy mayonnaise." Miracle Whip is an abomination to man, disgusting, and nothing like my beloved mayonnaise. I knew someone would take offense at that! As an immigrant often confuse all the Whips - Cool, Dream, Miracle and Reddi. Any comparison with mayonnaise was meant to clarify that the abomination added to the "salad" was something of a savory whip rather than a sweet one, not to suggest that MW should truly be considered mayonnaise.

I'll see if I can find it. I don't remember who made it but it was on Instagram. There was also an article about Watergate Salad (pistachio instant pudding, pineapple, mini marshmallows, Cool Whip, pecans) I had no idea what this was called. It was always on the salad bar at Eat N Park. I think it's delicious but I always assumed it was a sweet pudding. So not really a dessert but definitely not a savory dish. Just a little treat at the end of your meal. They had it near the fruit on the bar. And the salad bar, not like when they had food on the bar maybe on Sundays.

In other news!!! My daughter was in a ballet last weekend and all of my photos were terrible because the lighting was so dark. One of the other moms is a photographer and shared some photos she took to facebook and there is one of my kid and it's amazing. So excited.

Has anyone gone half the month without doing anything but still finished it? Iβve been writing things down and keeping notes. I know Iβll have enough to do the albumβ¦just wondering if Iβll have the mojo. I halfway believe when they put the shunt in my brain, it took out my creative part. First of all, I'm sorry you are going through this. It just sounds terrible and I can imagine you'd have a hard time pulling out your holiday spirit. I am someone who doesn't work on my DD until New Year's weekend. I take pictures and I do the journaling. As I write my journaling, I format it in either 3x4 4x6 or 3x8 (rare but sometimes my journaling takes up a whole 6x8 page.) This is so at the end I just have to print and cut into cards. And then I get my kit and my kit only (I do not dig through any of my other scrapbook supplies), I keep it simple and I can usually put the entire album together in the weekend + new years eve, new years day holiday. I specifically use those four days to do my album. I did the same process with October Daily this year. My October was incredibly busy and hard because Esther's birthday is during October but I tried really hard to put in a bunch of fun things and work was busy too. I admit it is a little bit disappointing when you can't keep up with the thread devoted to the project and it kind of sucked to be posting after the thread had kind of died out. But, I do the project for me and I was really happy with how my project turned out. And also, not everything in my books, DD or OD, relates to the season or holiday either. Some days I just document how that particular day went or how I was feeling.

Has anyone gone half the month without doing anything but still finished it?. Yes. My first stand-alone DD was 2021, and I made the decision on 12/31 that I wanted to make one. It was completely finished by the time school resumed, (around January 9). It was an absolute delight, and I loved every minute of creating it. Last year I knew I wanted to do it again, but really struggled to get started. I think I began a couple days before Christmas, but mostly got going afterwards. It took me longer to complete it, because I really never felt the creative spirit move me, but it was still done in January. It is very cute and it looks great. But it was a slog to put together and it was a drain. I havenβt done a darn thing yet this year. Well, not entirely true - I did finally open the few things I bought for it and pulled down my December supplies and put some of it on my desk last week. π Progress? Iβm trying to decide whether I want to push ahead and force it (like last year) or just let it go. Iβm sorry you not been feeling well! Maybe youβll feel more free to enjoy the project once vacation begins. Hugs to you!

Iβd suggest to keep taking pictures, keep a little log to journal or just jot some thoughts down. I started doing yearly DDs in 2009 but fell off around 2016, just had a few hard years in there. Last year, I went back and completed a few of the years to fill the gap. I felt better about that time in retrospect, and because I had kept memorabilia and light journaling, it was easy to put together.
Iβm not working on this years DD on a daily basis. I like to take pictures and save ideas, then start after the holiday. For me, the tree picture is usually always my first photo and i like to have a lot to choose from. So a tree photo from the middle of the month may be day 1 for me, if that makes sense.

Okay so kids are done with this semester. Dd turned in her last final (paper) and ds is home. He gifted us the most awesome handmade ornament to date.
I have some catching up to do due to the kidney infection. Thankfully the antibiotics are working and I got an rx for muscle relaxer.
I have days 5 (Hope's first Christmas), 6 (tree), 9 (shopping), 10 (Ugly sweater), 11 (vehicle antler and nose set), 12 (outside lights), 13 (new small Snoopy plush), and today (coffee from McDs) to do.
I am hopeful that this weekend I will be good enough to go to Cabazon for the night time Christmas Dinos fest. They got some new dinosaurs that light up and then Santa is inside the gift shop with no reindeer to pull the slay. Nope. He uses raptors lol
The kids aren't fond of Santa but I may take one with him for fun.

Finally feeling better! First dsy of winter break and just got done with errands so off to play.
Big news of the day is Toby's cancer is still stable with no new growth. He has a slow progressing lymphoma. It has been 2 years and 4 months and the cancer hasn't spread and the 2 lymph nodes affected haven't gotten bigger. Yay!!!

Glad some of you are on the mend!
I *know* somewhere I saw someone say the foil that comes with the WRMK Quill isn't great and someone recommended what foil to get?
Any feedback on foils?
Also, watched Christmas at Biltmore last night! Gahhhh I loved everything about it!!
Santa Summit... I tried three times. All three of those girls were so annoying in their own way. The grinch friend- ugh, non stop complaining. The one with the wallet... Her lips and face just seemed so weird to me. Then of course there was the girl that can't get out of her own way. LOL My daughter and her friends are Millennials... I am not sure I can say this was any more representative of them than most Hallmark movies are of me lol
OH! I also watch Something from Tiffany's (Amazon, not Hallmark!) I originally started it on a flight, but finished it at home a couple weeks ago. Yall Hallmark watchers should definitely try the forbidden Amazon Christmas Movie fruit!

Yall Hallmark watchers should definitely try the forbidden Amazon Christmas Movie fruit! I'm too cheap to turn on Prime right now. I think I have another season of Mrs Maisel too. I am moving along in December Daily. Day 4 is still waiting on the kid to do her journaling. 7, 8, 9, and 10 are done. Working on 11 and 12 kinda at the same time. Then I'm going to have a couple of days with a full-page photo and an embellishment and call those done. I feel like I'm making everything super complicated and I do not have it in me. Again -- remind me next year: They are called foundation pages, not filler pages. Do more foundations, less filler. I don't know what got into me during prep day. I was cutting out all kinds of stuff. What the hell am I going to do with all those nutcrackers make from pattern paper and the thing from Nolana's lesson. I'm not going to make a dang book with flaps all this way and that. I ain't got time for that.

Day 12was about festive cocktails at the local apple orchard. Day 13 was about my girls prepping for their Xmas Eve magic/singing show. They are both complete now.
I am cruising along but also feel like my pages are starting to get a little boring. Iβm going to scan the interwebs for some inspiration.
