Open makes it seem like I have more control of my domain. I can hear all the little noises that can occur such as when other family is up and wandering around, the garage door open, etc. I also think it helps with air flow.

Closed. I really don't need two cats frolicking on my head/nightstand/headboard in the middle of the night.

Closed. I was told you should have as many barriers between you and an intruder or fire as possible.

Closed because firemen recommend it to stop spread in the event of fire This. 100x this. Our neighbors had a fire a 2 years ago and when they started taking the house down, the bedrooms were virtually unscathed due to the doors being closed. It was amazing. My father always shut my bedroom door for as long as I can remember.

I prefer open to hear noises, especially now with a baby.
However, we keep all bedroom doors closed for fire safety reasons.

Open in the summer as we have a whole house fan we run at night to keep the a/c usage low during the day. Kids' doors are always shut, so we keep ours open to help with the air circulation. Otherwise it depends on whether or not there is anyone else visiting/home.

Closed. My father's a retired firefighter. That as is strict rule in our house. I guess I just got used to it and still do it to this day.

Open. Dates back to when I was a child and I couldn't make out, in the pitch dark, where the door was, no bedside light. In my half sleep mode I worked my way around the walls until I found a handle and opened the door but still there was no light. I pulled and pushed on the door and then realised it was the wardrobe as it began to topple over onto me. There might have been shouting. My dad came through the door, light on and righted the wardrobe. Yeah, since then, door open. Oh, how awful!

Usually closed because I go to bed before DH. If we go to bed at the same time, it stays open until he gets up in the morning and closes it.

Closed.
I go to bed before anyone else and the light and noise would keep me awake.
Our electric toothbrush flashes a bright blue light randomly and it is in direct line of sight where I sleep if the door was open.

Closed because firemen recommend it to stop spread in the event of fire I was in grade school when the firemen came to talk about fire safety and I have closed my door, and the kid's doors when they were at home, ever since. I am pretty sure we had already kept our doors closed when I was a kid anyway.

We don't have a door, which I know sounds strange. Our upstairs is open concept, as was the style in the mid-70s when it was built. We have all ceilings with a pitch, so there isn't really a way to add a door (believe me, we've worked through all the options!) This works for us, as it is just DH and me and the cats. It might not work as well if we had more people living here.
When we did live in a house with normal doors, our room had double doors and we slept with them closed.

It's just DH and I and we sleep with the door open. I know it's safer to close it but I don't like it. Our senior cats decided one day that they didn't like each other and she moved into our bedroom. I kept the door closed all the time then and she was so much happier. I didn't like having the door closed but I did it for her. We lost her in April and now our door is open again so the other cats can come and go and so I can hear noise in the house. When it was closed, I always wondered if I would even hear the security alarm if it went off. I don't think I would have.

When my son was young and sleep walking I would sleep with the door open. Now I like to sleep with the door closed. Had a break in many years ago and my feeling of security was compromised. A year or so ago a neighbor had a break in while home and so I do like my door closed and my cell phone nearby.

Closed because I sleep with my dog and he'd be running the house at 3am if the door was open. Also, I come from a long line of firemen who always suggested it was safer to sleep with a closed door. Yeah mine are like frat boys. They’d be raising hell if they had free rein.

In the summer, we keep the door closed to help the AC. In the winter, we keep them open to get warmth from the pellet stove.

Used to close mine, to keep the dogs in. It would get too stuffy in there (no air return). So now I have a hinged door baby gate in the doorway to keep the dogs in, or out. I can still close the door if I need/want to.

I used to sleep with the bedroom door open until I saw a video from the fire department. It showed the difference between having doors open and closed during a fire. The difference was incredible and mind changing. We now sleep with the bedroom doors closed.

Closed for me. I think I've always slept with it closed - just feels normal. And in winter when the heater comes on I don't want to lose all the heat.

Open because my parents always kept theirs closed and I remember being scared as a kid and not being able to go on there. So I wanted my kids to feel welcome. Now that they are older I still sleep with it open because it keeps my room cooler. If my husband closes it in the morning when he wakes up before me I end up too hot.
