bunnyhug - You are a tremendous asset to this shelter and wonderful to undertake such an overwhelming task. Good luck with the move to the new building and having a better spot to serve your community. Thank you for your volunteer service. Maybe you'll find the socks in the move!Only to "lose them" again during the move! Wouldn't it be amazing if those bins were "accidentally" dropped off at the wrong charity building?

dh tackled the big box of sailing books that have set in our living room since he sold the boat 4 yrs ago. the first day he was too emotional about it. yesterday, he sorted them into books to give a friend, and the rest he will put on facebook marketplace for free. this is a big deal. now he just has to decide on selling the sextant (worth a bit). and we have more "sailing stuff" in basement.

DH tossed some expired food yesterday before taking the trash out. Progress!
Yesterday I spent some time repairing the quilt from my bed. Trying to figure out the best way to repair the underneath side so it doesn’t mess up the top. It’s a solid navy blue and has been “quilted” with 1/4 inch lines of thread. I’ve used fabric from Jay’s old pjs for the patches…Star Wars.

I finally convinced DH to get rid of the area rugs in the front room--YAY! They are old and though we have shampooed them, they just look ugh. Our city does a pick up of stuff that doesn't fit in the cans 3xs/year, so these will go along with our old lawn mower that recently died. I'm looking for anything else we might get rid of before the pick up in 3 weeks.

I really hoped I would be able to get through more stuff while DD was away at camp. But she wasn’t 100% well while she was gone so it was pretty stressful not knowing if we were going to have to drop everything to make the four hour round trip drive to go get her. (We didn’t, thankfully.) It did leave me hanging though with not wanting to start anything big not knowing if I would be able to wrap it up or not. Now this week and next week will be busy again, and the week following that we’ll tentatively be at our lake place. So it might be close to a month before I’ll really have time to jump in and tackle things.
One of our projects for the summer is to replace the flooring in the family room and the front room (which is the one full of junk that needs to get gone). One way or another, that room needs to get emptied out and once it does I think we’re going to have another problem of wants vs. needs. DH wants to turn that space into the TV room, but I need the big bay window for taking product photos so I’m not sure how we’re going to reconcile that.

It’s been slow going on the decluttering front around here. Just been so busy and a lot of not feeling well too. I’ve been avoiding our basement because I spent the last 2 months with contact dermatitis that turned into an autoimmune flare. Now that it’s under control I hope to get down there this week/weekend. The church is holding their first rummage sale since covid and this is my chance to get rid of stuff.
On a good note… DH has been doing some decluttering of his garage. He filled our big trash bin that goes on the curb. He also asked me to put the hasn’t worked in 6 years riding lawnmower/tractor on the local buy sell trade for free. He was telling his dad about having no response to the post at dinner on Sunday and FIL said he’d take it off our hands. DH hauled it over there this evening. DH wants me to list a few other large things for him this weekend. At least there’s been some progress even though it’s not the areas I hoped for.
And the old bathroom vanity will FINALLY leave my garage tomorrow night. DH kept forgetting to notify waste management that we needed a large item pick up. I scheduled it myself this week because I’m sick of walking around the stupid thing to get in my car.

We use a white plastic play pen for our dogs in the house. We used to have 3 sets, with each set consisting of 8 panels, so 24 panels in all - one set had been at my house, one set was here, and one set was at my parents' house in FL. I have no idea where all of the panels are, but I just put 4 very well "loved" panels in my car to take to the dump for recycling. I replaced them with 5 panels from our shed for the current play pen, and I kept the door panel. I'm pretty sure there are at least 7 more panels floating around here or the storage unit, but I'm glad we're at least getting rid of the worst ones! We've had the sets since 2015, so they've gotten lots of use! I do have a brand new set that I need to put into the storage unit to have on hand - I purchased it last year when I couldn't find any other panels here, and it is too late to return it now.
I also took a grocery bag filled with expired food from the pantry out to my car. I need to find another sturdy bag to place more expired food in it. I'm trying to gradually clean it out and then reorganize the contents. At least this is one area of decluttering where I don't get any push back from my mom!
I emptied out a suitcase from a trip I had taken in 2022. 😳 I had gotten some stuff out, but not everything. I'm going to donate it because it is really big, and I have another suitcase that is a similar size but in better condition. It's currently in the foyer, but I need to put it in the car to donate the next time I go into town.
I've also gone through several old magazines and pitched them.
Slowly trying to lighten the load here! My dad and 2 of my siblings are coming here for the 4th, so I want to show some progress has been made.

Dad has already trashed some of the things from the shed. Said there is likely 2 trips to the dump.
He couldn't pass up the price. It ended up being $1.21 with tax/fee. He's gotten some stuff to haul to the auction already.

it took all day on social media, but one friend came over and took some books, and dh found someone on marketplace to take all three boxes last night.
now to put empty bins in basement. I have a whole bag of beanie babies my sister in law gave us. I just read about a free toy library nearby and will take those there will some old games. I also pulled out some books to donate (rearrange shelves after I had to take stuff apart) and dh pulled two back.. turns out one was a gift from his workmates in malaysia in 1987--he had been looking for it. we have lots of bookcases in this house.

It's been slow going on my decluttering plans the past month with having to spend time going with DH to/from doctor and treatment appointments. Tomorrow completes week 4 and the oncologist gave him an estimate of 3 months of treatments. So far it is responding though!
Sunday I started looking for a single piece of paper in my sewing room so I could print some quilt labels. About 2 hours later I found it! Before I did though I was able to toss a bag full of old printed project ideas, patterns and clippings. A couple of quilt patterns went into the donation bin. Also found 2 workbooks from an interior design class I took in college...in the early 1980's! Those were trashed as well. Also did some shuffling of books on the shelves. Pulled a Tula Pink coloring book I won at quilt guild and will pass that along to the little girls who live by me. They will enjoy it this summer. Six quilt labels are now printed and ready to sew on the quilts. Once that's done they will be stored away and free up space in my sewing room.
Today I forced myself to start on the dreaded guest room. There are 7 boxes of books and photo albums to be emptied so I emptied one. They were all DH's vintage books and fortunately he had emptied a shelf in his office so that's where they are now. Broke down the box and put in recycling. My goal is to tackle a box a day for the next week.
I also folded and stored a pile of quilts and pillows that had ended up in a pile in middle of the room. Now there is room to move around and it doesn't look quite so bad. Also added 2 skirts that are too big and DD didn't want to the donation box.

My Pom passed away in my lap a month ago. I am so sorry for your loss.
Discovered a box Christmas lights with a note that they did not work and dated 2004. I feel this statement. I currently have a Dyson vac in my basement with a note from 2.5 years ago. It might be dead (it was bought 20+ years ago), or it might just need fixing.
I actually already replaced it, but might also take the basement dyson to a shop to maybe repair. Eek! Feel called out.
I boxed up 68, yes SIXTY EIGHT!!! Short sleeve t-shirts to donate WOW!!
I feel amazed and jealous.
I don't own 68 shirts. (If I had the space I WOULD!)
Good job decluttering.
I pretty much buy the exact same clothes to replace the ones I have but I like what I like… I’m definitely a clothing minimalist… or should I say I have a capsule wardrobe? Me too!
It's sort of a uniform for me, really. Jeans and an oversized, solid color tee shirt.
It just works for me, and I'm too old to apologize for not being trendy.
Finally got tv room in order. We had to drag everything out of the closet. We had mold in it and we had it fixed. That's fantastic progress!

Remember how excited I was to declutter at the end of school year? Yeah, then why is mostly everything sitting on my dining room floor in reusable bags?
Blah. I did toss out the used up workbooks that they will never touch again.
I need to see what folders are still usable. I need to collect up the supplies that weren't even used (Like the $15 art sketchbook that is required every single year, but magically this year they didn't even use one page in it).
I did wash all the school uniforms.
And last night I placed an order for hangers (in two colors to differentiate whose uniforms are whose because the sizes are close, and at first glance it can be hard to tell without looking at the tag, and the closet is shared by two kids).
It's the first week of summer break and I'm already overwhelmed with the clutter. And it seems I am the only person who cares, or can see it.
Also, I've decided that I want to reorganize the pantry, but I'm not sure how yet. I'm currently in the process of eating down the stockpile and using up what we have.

This thread made me tackle the school bags and supplies. Trash already out, reusable supplies with the others.
Also tackled some phone calls/ online stuff that I hadn't gotten to this week. But why, WHY, is every medical office, "Leave a voicemail..." I cannot get a hold of a person for anything, so I really feel like I've accomplished nothing on that front. I try to make my calls when I'm available to talk. What if they call me back when I really can't take the call? Then I guess it was just all for nothing?

WOW!!
I feel amazed and jealous.
I don't own 68 shirts. (If I had the space I WOULD!) In my defense, I used to attend/ work at a lot of trade shows and conventions where I would accumulate a ton of t-shirts from vendors, etc. I also bought a bunch wholesale years ago but later decided I like v-necks better and stopped wearing the crew neck ones. Plus maybe a third of them were DD’s (and a lot of those were brand new 😳🙄). I bought her some shirts for gym class at Costco and she decided she didn’t like the moisture wicking fabric so I ended up getting her different ones that she liked better. Then there were the shirts I bought for her on clearance for super cheap at the end of the season, but for whatever reason she never wore them and the following year they were too small. 🙄 So off to donation they go, and some kid (or size small woman) who really needs some shirts will be blessed with brand new ones. I will also admit that I have an addiction to t-shirts. I have soooo many, but every time I see the kind I like (or that I think I’ll like) on clearance for $3-4, it’s like I can’t resist. Especially if they’re pink. I have a bunch of really old Duluth Trading Longtail T’s that are my go to’s, but they don’t make them the same anymore so I haven’t been able to replace them. (They no longer sell women’s v-necks, the fabric is thinner and not as nice, haven’t had pretty colors forever, etc.) I keep trying different brands but I haven’t found anything I like as much yet.

Yesterday dd brought home a new Mr. Coffee that was being given away by her work. It's basically the same as my old (ancient 20+ years) model, but heats more evenly, etc. So this morning I tossed the old one (after using the new one, making sure it actually works well. It does.).
Today I want to clear the book report books shelf, in preparation for next school year's books. I still am waiting for the final list to be published before I order them on Thriftbooks.
I know I need to organize the china cabinet (that actually holds very little china, and actually is more of a daily use center, but I'm just not sure exactly how I want to do it. I think I want to give it more thought before jumping in, especially because the whole family uses it, and I don't want to misplace often used items.

I do know how I would like it, but I have several family members who also use it, and i don't want to throw off their groove. They are very out of sight, out of mind.

Will your father be able to make enough from this lot to pay for his time doing all this sorting/trashing/donating? Or is it more about the thrill of getting the entire unit for just $1.21? I love a bargain like that but as I get older I realize my time is worth more than chasing deals.

Got rid of another five paint cans this week and this morning added the final five cans to the empty bin. It's taken me weeks to toss a few at a time. Thankful to have that space back in my garage. Now I have an extra container of kitty litter that I need to drop off at the animal shelter. The heat and humidity of Texas summer are here and all my decluttering efforts will be indoors until November now.
This weekend's decluttering is getting labels on six quilts and out of my sewing room. Two of them will be mailed out this week, two will go back to DD's place so at least four are leaving the house! Also plan to empty two more book boxes in the guest room this weekend.

He has found some video games and sold one for $60 already with more to go. Also found some stuff to take to a knife auction. Said auctioneer has a solid following.

I have 13 boxes/bins of stuff to be dropped off for the rummage sale tomorrow and that was just gathering all the random “get rid of it” boxes and bags around the house and basement from previous decluttering. I also have a large bag of school uniforms to put in the donation bin when I drop of the rummage sale stuff.
And as I was typing, DH brought down a huge box of his clothes. Finally cleaned out his side of the closet!
Final drop off for the rummage sale is Tuesday evening so we’ll see how much more I can get through.

There was a time when the only income I had was buying cheaply from yard sales, and thrift stores, and selling them online.
Getting a whole unit for $1.21 has a ton of room to be profitable. Great to hear about the games.
