This is disappointing. I'm not happy with Spellbinders right now. Have they finally responded to you? (crossing fingers) No. Not a word.

I have not gotten my box yet. Now floating around Greenville processing center. Maybe today. I have never done a virtual retreat/kit type thing. I have, however, watched all the threads about you guys doing them for the last several years. I knew that going in without any sneaks was a risk. But in every thread I have ever seen, there were some things from each event that would appeal to me, and I thought hey, it's Spellbinders. I could go and click $200 worth of product on their site with my eyes shut, and there would be something that I could use and love. And I wanted product outside my comfort zone to push me a little. But watching the unboxing video was so disappointing. There is nothing in there that is of in interest to me. And I know that is a personal thing, and one of the risks buying into something like this. I follow a lot of the instructors/designers, am very familiar with their work, and these products really do not seem on par with their other stuff. The use of the kits across the class content seems kinda lop-sided too, and does not showcase all the product evenly. The wine glass, or cup or whatever, is not something that I can use at all. No judgement, but I will not be able to use that in my card making at all. My family members have serious history with alcohol abuse, and the other group I send cards to are women in substance abuse recovery that I work with. Again, I know that is in issue specific TO ME, and not Spellbinders. But, that kit is used in 4 of the cards over the weekend, and does not look very varied or different. And how to use the glass any other way??
Shine Bright is not great, not terrible, but is kind of a one trick pony and is featured on 3 of the cards. And I hate that that is the one stencil set we get.
Vivky P's clouds maybe have some potential, but are way under-used and we are given very little inspiration with them, and I though her cards were kinda simplistic and almost kid-ish compared to her normal style.
The bike is huge. And again I feel it is under-used. Might could be inspired to use it but not from what is in the book. It is a set that might push me to do something out of my norm, but it is BIG.
Nichol's embroidery hoop is meh. Not terrible, but it would have more versatility if the holes actually punched out and you could stitch, like some of the sets out there already. Not original or innovative for her. There are several companies that have released those.
Yana's flower is a flower, but again, she usually does stunning things, and this seems under-used and un-inspiring.
This whole kit seems kind-of thrown together at the last minute/no thought put in. I may not open my box if it comes today. If there is discussion of a refund, I may see how that plays out. I cannot see the FB group so keep us informed, those of you who can. I don't expect it, and I will not be upset if they do not offer that. I accepted the risk when I bought without sneaks. I also could be persuaded to sell the unopened box and class access at a discount if we are allowed to sell the product. I know I sound like a big whiny baby, but I watched y'all do these retreats forever and have never seen a box that would be such as dud for me as this one has turned out to be. But live, and learn, and look forward to SCT C&C in September.

I have realized why I like the pinkfresh events so much is they give you a lot of coordinating products and essentials that go with all of them. They also find clever ways to mix and match the products. Events where the products don’t mix and match as well and it’s just like one die for each class have less appeal for me, I’ve realized. It makes the kit more limited.
That’s my issue with the spellbinders stuff they seem limited and most are not things I’d purchase. Normally I love spellbinders. I’m still doing the event just surprised I don’t love the kit. I used crafty points and got 10% off that part is good.
It is also why I like crop and create less now. The teachers have to make several cards with often very limited products from each company. And because they don’t want you to have to buy paper or ink they also limit the choices. I don’t mind supplying ink and paper. I have plenty. I’d rather have better designed cards because the teachers had more options.

I have to agree that this Spellbinders event products don't feel very cohesive. I think previous events looked more together and seeing their monthly kits lately they are just so well thought out. I would expect that it would be something similar.
This looks more like a sampling of collections that will be released later this year. So maybe the whole collection will be more appealing.
And there will be a lot more inspiration too.

I got my box today. I'm on the fence as to whether I like some of them. I'm hoping to learn techniques I can use with other supplies I own. Yana's card is very pretty.
Looking at the booklet, it says on the first page on the schedule, all times are in PDT. That means the kickoff will be 8-10 p.m. eastern time. That's LATE!

That makes sense. I'm not sure exactly what I expected really. Except that, like I said, I could've pulled random products from their store and would be more pleased. Not gonna ruin my week over it, I guess. In the grand scheme of things, NBD. Like you, I am just surprised because I expected to be wowed. That's on me, not SB. Spellbinders is usually one of my faves.

If I received that whole collection in a box today, I wouldn't complain. I see lots and lots of potential in it. This weekender thing has a totally different feel.

I'm another that is less than impressed with the box contents. The recent monthly club offerings have been really good (I'm not a subscriber). I know that set my expectations high for this event. Definitely a let down.

Also, being that I'm a left coaster, I AM happy about the times. No 7am classes for me this time around!

This is the worst box I have ever bought and thought Spellbinders would be much better at this.
Not happy at all.

Just thought I'd pop in with my impressions of the kit. I signed up because I have really loved the Spellbinders releases over the past 6 months or so. I have club memberships for the large and small dies and have mostly enjoyed them. So I went into this with high hopes. Major disappointment when I opened the box. In its defense, there is a lot of stuff in there. So the value was good. I go into any class like this with the thought that if 50% of the products are usable for me, I'm a happy camper. And most kits, I can. With this kit, I'm hard pressed to find 25% usable for the kinds of cards I make and donate. I'll watch the classes and hope to pick up on some techniques like MDscrapaholic said. But this will likely be my first and last Spellbinders event.

Now that I'm seeing I'm not the only one who feels this way, I sincerely hope that Spellbinders is somehow seeing and getting the message. I wholeheartedly agree that their usual work is so much better than this. Hopefully, this will be a learning experience for them.
I did one previous sight unseen order with them last fall when they came out with the Stitchmas Christmas count down calendar. I thought it was great and I felt confident ordering this kit after that experience. I'll be thinking twice about ordering sight unseen from them from now on. I'll have to see some good kits come out before I take that chance again.

I don’t see myself using most of the products.

I haven't received my box yet so I haven't seen the booklet, what a disappointment to hear that the projects aren't that great. I watched the unboxing and liked what I saw from just the products - I have family members & friends who are really into cocktails, I have a few that are into biking, and one has a really vintagy bike like the die, some that are into embroidery and sewing - so there is stuff that will work for me. To hear that the designers just kind of phoned-in their card designs does suck, though, I was expecting a lot because imo SB really delivers most of the time. The only die I didn't love was the poppy die, but I was confident that Yana would make it look spectacular because everything she does is amazing, but if she can't make it work - what hope do I have, lol.
I agree with the person above who said this looks like a sampling of future collections coming out - the poppy die looks like it would fit into the modern flowers series that they have, for instance.

I think the disconnect for me is that classes don’t always appeal/work for the everyday crafter. I’m not necessarily speaking of this particular event per se but definitely some classes are so complex that hours are spent on just one card. As an individual who still works full time and 5-6 years away from retirement, it’s helpful to have projects that are relatively easy to reproduce but also apply across a wider audience. I’ve only been doing online classes/events since 2020 so maybe that’s on me as I haven’t found the right fit yet. While I love all the instructors, I too will likely have difficulty using some of the died more than once. There’s only one person in my life who would appreciate embroidery hoop card and none who would enjoy a cocktail card. Regardless, still love the instructor line up and I’m sure to learn new things.😊

I quit pouting and opened my box last night. My husband was watching, and was like "Why do you have dies that make a lamp??" Once I saw it, I could not unsee it. Bahahahahaha. I threw this together just for fun. I could not help myself. The lighting is terrible in my room, so forgive the bad pic. https://www.instagram.com/p/C6KMnAOLlMd

You should post it on the FB page FOR SURE I tried to sell my kit on 2 different FB groups for $150 unused INCLUDING the classes and no takers So, I guess I'm gonna sit down and do the class prep. Maybe I'll get more excited once I start playing with the stuff. I'm going over to a (beginning card maker) friend's house to craft tomorrow and I'll work on it then. She's a graphic designer so I'll be especially curious to hear her take on the kit.

I love taking classes and doing the events. I also love the value and amount of product in most of the events. But most of my cards are fairly basic, from sketches and almost always made in multiples.

Per the Spellbinders Squad, there will be no upcoming coupon code to make additional purchases. They responded that there are tons of awesome sales running all the time.
My first Spellbinders class. This may be customary for them. I know sometimes others offer codes.
