I loved Mindy's card - I did manage to finish it, but had to stop the video several times. She is a good instructor, and yes, those galaxy techniques turned out gorgeous!

azcrafty I took some screen shots of the steps: 1. Blend dye ink on watercolor paper (sample uses Ranger - Simon Hurley). 2. Blend black dye ink onto the edges of paper (sample uses Ranger - Simon Hurley). 3.Without adding more black ink onto blending brush, continue to rub brush towards center of panel, lightly layering black ink onto the colored ink. 4. Spritz panel with water - should be visibly wet. 5. Allow to dry completely! 6. Add opaque white paint splatters. ETA: Mindy mentioned the spraying of water should have happened AFTER the colored ink blending and BEFORE the black ink blending, but she forgot while teaching. It seems either way will work, but the water effect is likely more pronounced if doing it before the black ink blending step.

Very cool Ryann. And thank you so much for the step by step instruction. I have done something similar but with much more black for space cards and without the water. This has a very cool feel to it and would be cool for a Halloween sky.

I have stamped on Spellbinders CS and was not at all fond at how it took up ink. For die cutting, card bases, and matting layers, it is delightful. Oh, this is good to know as I haven't tried to stamp on it yet. I just love how sturdy it is and it's great for die cutting. I have several packs of The Stamp Market CS that I purchased for a PinkFresh event and while I loved the colors, I didn't like the way it felt. I'm really weird with texture and it just kind of felt rough to me. I don't know. Maybe I'll try to work with it again because I love the colors of TSM.

I've seen galaxy blending before but don't think I would've ever thought to use it for die cutting like this. It's really pretty. Thanks for the step by step Ryann

I ended up watching the majority of the event live (I missed the first half of Carissa). I had not planned to, and did not do any homework beforehand. While I did do some crafting, it was non-event cards using scraps/old products.
I was not at all inspired by the box of products prior to the event, but seeing the cards come together live, I could feel my opinion changing. While it’s not my favorite event, I’m glad I watched. I definitely learned something new and found new-to-me crafters/instructors.
I’m not sure I would do another SB-only event again. I could see being tempted by a christmas one. Hopefully they take all the feedback they’ve been given to make future events better.

I like to be fully prepared for these events. However, I got some pretty good takeaways from the various instructors - many that were unknown to me. I do like several of the cards, but do not know if I will make any more. Just choosing the colors for the die cuts seems impossible without some guidance, and their color charts aren't set up to cut the dies by card.

Was busy today, so I'll have to finish the remaining classes next weekend. The 4 classes I took yesterday were great but I some of the pacing of the classes felt very rushed. Yes, I agree! The homework was a mess. I like the way Concord and 9th sets up the homework, it's outlined in the camp guide and tells you exactly which die set to use. No hunting around and guessing. Also, the Spellbinders homework took me about 10 hours to do. I don't think I'll do another Spellbinders only event. I actually like the look of the diecuts when it all comes together but not a fan of all the intricate pieces. MDscrapaholic, beautiful cards!

I've completed four classes and did one of the bonus cards. I have to say I really enjoyed the classes that I've done so far. Many of the instructors showed additional cards and Jennifer McGuire had a video at the end for even more inspiration. I think I'll be using these dies for a while in lots of creative ways. I'm also excited about some of the add-ons. I love the martini die set and the Halloween dies. Those will be joining my collection at some point.

Well. I worked on all 10 cards this weekend (and today) and finally got each one done. I am happy with them, but don't know if I'll actually make them again. The process of choosing colors for all the different pieces of each set is overwhelming to me sometimes. I think I'm more of a stamp/stencil/blending type of card maker than a paper piecer. That said, here's the rest of the cards for those that are curious! Nichol Sporh - Rainbow Hoop Michelle Short - Needle & Thread Vicky Papaioannou - The Adventure Begins Justine Dvorak - Shake It Up Meghann Andrew - Rainbow Bright Bibi Cameron - Spring Bike Carissa Wiley - Shine Bright And last, Kim Kesti - It's Your Day Now, if I can figure out what colors to die cut, I'll try to do the bonus cards. They may be a challenge, as the instructions in the book aren't very descriptive. I'm anxious to see what others have done! Did anyone else make any?

MDscrapaholic your cards came out great! The airplane would be great for masculine cards. I always struggle with those. Maybe with that galaxy technique!

@mdscrapoholic - Your cards turned out good. But SB's has too much paper piecing for me.
I really like that bike card.

Lovely cards MDscrapaholic but I can see what you mean about figuring out colors. Alicia/Call Me Crafty Al did a livestream last night with some others to use leftovers from the event. I haven’t watched, but thought you all might find some value in it.

Been playing catch up on watching the classes. While I am still disgruntled at the choice of products, I will say their classes are quality. At least to me as a first time retreat-er. A lot of basics, but some good stuff in there. MDscrapaholic your cards turned out great!! Fantastic work!! I did galaxies back in the day when distress and distress oxides were just coming out and were the only inks that would blend smoothly. I do like her use of die cutting into them. Great result. I agree that for the money, there should have been more card stock, or at least all whole sheets with some wiggle room. And not a fan of the "in-between" stuff in the rewatch. Recipes, drinks, and what not. And "Cropped" should have used kit products. Had nothing to do with anything really. I probably will not make any of the cards as is. And probably will still never do a SB event again.

Yes, I agree! The homework was a mess. I like the way Concord and 9th sets up the homework, it's outlined in the camp guide and tells you exactly which die set to use. No hunting around and guessing. So, I'm not in this event, so I haven't actually seen how they set up the homework. But when everyone was having trouble with how it was set up, I went and looked at my field guide from last summer's C&9th camp. I think they were able to set their homework up more straightforwardly because each die set was used for only one class. So they only had two variables: color of card stock and die set (which was the same as class for their event). It seems that wouldn't have worked for this event because the die sets were shared by multiple classes, so there were three independent variables: card stock color, die set, and class/card. I'm sure they still could have done a better job and it sounds like they did, eventually. But I don't believe that it was as simple as doing exactly what C&9th did.

Shakti, the homework was super confusing because they literally just had a picture with dies and what cardstock to use. No reference to where the die set was from. Then when you cut it out, you had to figure out what card the die cut belonged to. Super confusing since there were 16 cards (includes bonus cards) and all the cards required die cuts. Luckily, someone on fb ended up labeling what set each die cut came from and what card it belonged to.

And after the praise received here, C&9th changed the way they laid out the homework die cutting for this year's camp. Ha!

That is gorgeous. Right? And as I've been putting things up from my de-stash, I see that there is a dearth of Weekender items for sale, so we'll never see even a fraction of that $$$ back. The only thing I've sold from the event so far are the two sewing die sets. At this point everything except that Shine Bright stencil has been released into the regular product line, so it's ok to sell now. I figure no one will ever want that stencil set anyhow, so it'll likely get donated. Lesson learned.

LOOKIT girls, lookit! I finally used a product from the weekender event. AND I even *staged* a card photo for the first time 😎 Granted, it is a card lift of a card that Yana made a YouTube about, but still! I posted the link to the video earlier in the thread if you’re interested in watching it. Anyhow, I was Jones-ing for the new poinsettia die that she designed for SB, so I decided to try and make a holiday card from the poppies instead of spending another $22. Even though poppies aren’t really *for* the holidays, I think it works with all the deep red and gold. What do you think? By the way, if you watch the video and wanna try it, I’m here to tell you that the ink blending goes really fast! And the pieces fit together well. This is one that I think could be produced in quantities and not take too much time. Off to play with some other colors…
