Yesterday I got an email from Spellbinders asking me how I liked this kit. I let them know my feelings about it.

Yesterday I got an email from Spellbinders asking me how I liked this kit. I let them know my feelings about it. Yes....very interesting...... Everything I've seen on the FB group has been super positive. Except the ones telling Spellbinders how to organize their FB group, LOL. And mild handslaps for the ones who ask about their missing card stock. Disappointment with the products seems to be a minority. Which is OK.

Ugh. I would love an opportunity to tell them that their homework instructions are a disaster.

Ugh. I would love an opportunity to tell them that their homework instructions are a disaster. How bad is it? I haven't dug in deep, but I did see that each designers' supply list from the book includes supplies needed for the class card and the bonus card all together in one list. This is causing some confusion because the card stock for the bonus cards is not in the kit.

That's too bad. I remember their homework from the C&CD event I did being very clear.

I also received an email asking for a rating/feedback on the kit. It came overnight.

I received an email from SB as well. I need to think about how I want to respond to get across my disappointment with the kit.

In all seriousness, though, it would be a good barometer for them to see how many of you guys do this type of virtual event pretty often, and what your opinions are of what they are offering. I am a first-timer. I know style is a personal thing. Like I said, I understood the risks on that front. This whole thing just has such a different feel than any other event I have seen discussed on here.

Definitely bring up that you have done the SCT events and that you were expecting something similar. They always had a well thought out kit. They should have been up front about that this is a box full of sampling of up coming releases. Good luck!

I just went back and checked my emails. No survey for me. I love to share my disappointment with them.

I just received that email too. "What do you think of your purchase from Spellbinders Paper Arts?"
If it wasn't asking about the Weekender kit specifically, I'd tell them what I think of their customer service. They finally answered my emails (sent April 1st, 8th about the broken BetterPress) and told me they were sorry, but I had to contact the seller. Even though this was a PRODUCT defect, not a seller problem. Oh well.

Anybody working on their homework? How's it going?
Not being particularly fond of the products or the projects, I am not planning on prepping anything.
Still hoping the classes are technique-heavy, but based on the cards in the book I am doubtful.
I will be out of town part of the weekend too.

At this point in time I have no plans of even watching the videos (though I'm sure I'll check out one or two at some time), let alone participating. This has been such a let down and a $$$ lesson learned. So, no prep done.

Also, I feel like we are the outliers here. Everyone on the FB group seems very happy with the kit and excited for the weekend. Glad I have you girls to commiserate with.

I still don't have my box - it was delivered to my local post office to pick up because I have a customs charge on it, and I haven't had time to go get it yet. I'll get it tomorrow on my way home from work. So, I haven't done any prep at all yet.

I don't feel like I fit over there, LOL. Most posts are overwhelmingly positive. Although with over 1000 members, it seems to be moving kinda slow. Not a whole bunch of posts or a whole bunch of responses to anything much. Slowness may be the norm I a FB group for this kind of event. I don't know. There is some unhappiness that some did not receive the enamel pin.

There is some unhappiness that some did not receive the enamel pin. Yes, I saw that. I got one in my package. If someone here wants it, I'll happily send it to you if you pay shipping costs. I doubt anyone would be upset enough to state out loud on the FB page that they're not happy with the box. That the page moves slowly speaks volumes to me. I'm so happy we have this place to vent freely! I did search for that post that someone mentioned on here, asking to return the box, but I couldn't find it. Wouldn't surprise me if they removed it. Fingers crossed we get SOMETHING out of this next weekend. Has anyone replied to their email asking for feedback? What did you say? (If you'd care to share here). I haven't replied yet. I'm trying to choose my words carefully, and I'm not having much luck.

I see what everyone is saying. I think there's about 4 cards using that wine glass. I wished they went with the box theme and did some kind of diecut or stencil of that pretty mountain layout. But I guess we're stuck with wine glasses layouts.
I'll try to be optimistic (partly because I spent so much money on it, lol). Hopefully, the cards will look much better in person once we create them.

I don't think any negative posts about the kit contents would be allowed to remain in the group, so that is probably why nothing is being said. And if anyone watched Kim Kesti's video, there is actually a theme to box. It's not a hodge podge of items like originally thought. The theme is "Weekend Retreat" So the box is about things you would do/encounter if going on a retreat. The clouds/airplane represent your travel to the retreat, then you have your tropical cocktail to relax, a bike ride to explore, the stitching kit to represent the crafting part of the retreat. I just can't figure out how Yanna's flower and the hideous Shine Bright fit into the mix.
I'm currently still drowning in homework and do plan on completing all the cards, even the Shine Bright. I really love the bicycle but hate how big it is. I definitely want to voice my disappointment in that. I will never be able to use something that big.

I did. I kept it to a single paragraph. I mentioned the other events I have attended, why I liked them, and why I am dissatisfied with The Weekender. I told them how much I enjoyed their well thought out classes through SCT and signed up for this event based upon those experiences. I also said that I'd be happy to return my kit unused (at my expense) for a refund. I haven't heard back (and didn't expect I would).

Although they should not have had to add what was already provided by SB to make it workable. (Sorry, hard to contain the snark.)

Someone just posted a card using the bicycle dies - it's really cute! Looks to be an A2 size on a plaid background, with a teddy bear in the basket. Now, that one I'm could see myself doing.
I forgot to watch Kim Kesti's video today at 3. Did anyone catch it?

I forgot to watch Kim Kesti's video today at 3. Did anyone catch it? I did not watch live, it scrolled through the video quickly to see the card. She used the tropical elements -leaves, lemon slice, etc- on the embroidery hoop and a couple spools of thread. A “tropical sampler.” And the “ My soul is fed with needle and thread sentiment”. not a fan. i did think the bike card was cute. Better than the ones in our book. yes, I know. I still sound bitter.

Okay, I just opened up my box. I guess having low expectations is a good thing, because I really like the cards! My favorites are Vicky's Flamingo Sunset, Nichol's Rainbow Hoop, Kim Kesti's It's Your Day, and Justine Dvorak's card. The Pop-Up Bike card is also really cool.
Now I can finally join the facebook group and see what's going on over there. I'll check out the bike card and the video posted today.

Why doesn't SB use magnetic paper for their dies, like Altenew does? I appreciate the outlines of the dies on the insert, but after a while they don't stick to the tape! I'm having to stop the homework (yes, I'm still working on it) and line the paper outline sheet with magnetic paper so the dang dies will stay where they belong. Whoever thought that doing the homework by paper color was a good idea - it's not. First you have to find the die(s), cut them out, and then put the dies back with whatever set they belong to, then figure out which card that diecut goes to (shaking my head). I freely admit I've been spoiled by the C&CD events. I realize now I don't like paper-piecing that much, which is what this is. Oh well. Live and learn.

I’m missing a couple full sized sheets of cardstock from the kit. The Pink Sand, the Portobello and the Cosmic Sky. It also says there are 11 sheets of Neenah White - I only have 7. Someone else also posted this on the FB board, and they told her to use something from her stash. Also, Carissa Wiley’s first card - there’s no Barely Peach cardstock to cut down. They said to use the precut 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 piece that’s included. I'm sorry, but them identifying the dies and everything else by number is not easy to figure out. I gotta walk away from this before I scream.
