I added the sequins onto Carissa's tree card this morning. I recovered all the parts to Cathy's third card just as Carissa's class started, so that still needs to be assembled. And of course, the door. I found the word dies with the separate letters and the inlays to not be as bad as I feared. I did at some point figure out that when doing the inlays, it worked better to put the glue in the space, dispense with the tweezers, and place the inserts with fingers or wax tool, depending on size. The free-stamped background with Carissa was ok. I didn't feel particularly "empowered" or whatever it was folks were describing in the comments, but it kind of worked. And I think I can hide the worst of where it didn't work with die cuts. I was double booked yesterday and started but didn’t finish anything But after seeing posts and the cards here, I’m feeling inspired! I’m hoping to get time to play today. Of course I have a dog meet up first. Thank you for the feedback on the word dies. I’m not big on free stamping backgrounds, but only because I have way too much patterned paper to use as backgrounds! I enjoy the look, but just need to work through my stash instead. All of your cards are lovely Peas!

Now that I look at the photos (and apropos of a recent QotD in the Challenge Chat thread), I wish I'd used my stitched circle die instead of a plain one.... I think it looks good either way - stitched or not. I don’t have plain circle dies so used what I had. am hoping to finish the door card and Carissa’s today!

I had fun with these cards and learned a lot. I need some gold thread to finish Cathy's card. I definitely need one of those wax sticks as I struggled with the inlays and sequins. What did you think about the announcements for next year? I prefer these one day events. That big card event is so overwhelming for me.

Would you folks mind sharing the announcements for next year for those of us who didn't participate in this event?
Lovely cards, everyone. I'm really liking your color combinations.

One day card event in February; title/theme TBD. Spring 4-day card event returns! In-person card making/paper crafting event in Toronto — I don’t remember when.

Thanks, Shakti. I'm done with the four-day card events. They've just become too much for me in too many ways, and I'm not traveling to Toronto! A one day card event would be great, depending on the theme.

I agree on the four-day events. I only did the one, but it totally overwhelmed me. I am a more experienced crafter now, but that also means I'm more aware of my personal style and preferred techniques, etc. I kept very little product from that event and suspect I might keep even less from another one. The one-day events are more manageable, and S&CT is one of the companies whose products I kept the first time. They really do a good job of making versatile, easy-to-use stuff.
Also, I have to admit, I am considering traveling to Toronto....

A one day card event would be great, depending on the theme. The next one day event is Feb 8 . And I think the in person event is March. There was also lots of suggestions of a one day event for Halloween/ Fall cards since they are doing a Halloween paper crafting event. I signed up for the September card event and have regrets. I never finished last year's classes. It was just too many classes and too much stuff. I'm still fairly new to card making so the one day events are a better fit for my time, skills and budget.

I have regrets about signing up for September.

I will say, it's taken me a while to figure this out, but if you decide that you're ready to shed some of the too-much-stuff from C&CD, the brand-specific buy/sell/trade groups on Facebook are where I've had the best luck.

My bins of stamps and dies (mostly used for card making) have gotten so full that my new rule is if I add something new, something old has to go. As I'm doing that, I'm finding that most of the stuff I'm choosing to get rid of is from previous SCT card events. That told me something!
I also tried a couple of paper crafting events the past couple of years and found myself going back to making layouts after years of focusing on cards. I tried SCT's Let's Create Together kits this year and I loved them. I did all the layouts and had just enough stuff that I used it almost all up and had no remorse about throwing out what was left. The lessons and kits were just the right size for me.
Lesson learned - I'm doing much better these days by doing both cards and layouts and by not signing up for things just because I get a lot of stuff. Bargains are great as long as you actually use all the stuff!

Lovely cards, everyone! Busy weekend, so I plan on doing the classes next week. I can't wait to see everyone's color combos in the Facebook group.
I enjoy the 1 day events because they are very manageable and a great value. I'm not sure if I'll participate in the longer 4 day spring event. There are so many events in that time frame. I absolutely love the Pinkfresh and Altenew events and usually love every product I get. With SCT, some companies aren't really my style.
However, I do like that they have things I wouldn't have thought about using. And they always put on such a fantastic, well run event, so I might! But like others have said, it's just a lot of product. And I really need to ask myself if I actually have time to use and complete everything.

I do think SCT puts on a great event, but when I find I don't want to keep so many of the stamps and dies, that's when I realized those big card events aren't the best fit for me going forward.

Are those retired SU colors, MDscrapaholic? I don't think I'm familiar with them. Finished two more this morning: Definitely had some issues with the free-range stamping. Including doing it with Rainforest instead of Nocturne. I actually started to redo it with black, but had a major ink problem. The enamel dots instead of clear sequins are to cover smudges. I eventually discovered that when I dropped my VFC Nocturne on my laptop keyboard, I hadn't quite wiped up ALL the ink....

They are bringing back the Spring card making event? Oh dear. I was so happy when they dropped to one event per year because it is so hard for me to resist, but thirteen pounds of product is a lot of product twice a year. I love the big events and don't try to do all the cards in one go. I like taking my time with them and they are great for the days I want to make something but have no mojo.

It's funny -- I was so overwhelmed with the one I did. And have sold off a shockingly high percentage of the products.
But I often do the same thing with the single-brand events. I haven't figured out if I'm just done with most events, or if doing the events but just keeping a fraction of the items is just how I roll, or if I just really need to mix it up, not do the same events year after year for variety.

And last, but certainly not least: I really struggled with this one, between my embossing on the topiaries getting bolluxed by the wet ink from blending the edges to struggling with trying put the door on with foam tape. I hated that so much I pried it apart and glued it again flat, but I think I tweaked my doorframe in the process and it doesn't close right. It's ok -- I'll send it to my mom. She's been loving my not-so-perfect art projects for MY WHOLE LIFE! I never intended to make the shaker card, so this puts the lid on the class for me. I'll do a couple spinner cards, but that's a bonus card . Whole different thing in my book....

I was able to finish the cards this weekend. Link to pictures (pictures aren't great, I think the cards look much better in person): pin.it/1UNaP0K0bI didn't do any bonus cards or any of the cards from Jennifer's mix it up class. I was able to complete 18 cards. Going forward, for online classes, even though it's such a pain, I think I'll prepare enough material for 2 cards each. I liked having an extra card handy just in case I messed up. My favorite class was Meghann's, that door card seemed to take forever to assemble but well worth it! Meghann is a great instructor and so easy to follow. Overall, that was such a fun event. I hope SCT keeps doing these 1 day events.
