I have never understood why political discussions have to be red-flagged here so no tender flower accidentally reads something she doesn't want to. This practice has the effect of rendering those of us who like to discuss world events and their effect on us as second-class members of this board. We have to be marked with a red A to warn others away.
Just stop it. Put on your big girl panties and read the subject lines.
And yes, I've been here long enough to know that someone will now label this thread politics. Whatever. You're just showing that you're too much of a child to manage adult discussions.
For what it's worth, I think the "game" threads are stupid. I've tried to participate once or twice, but overall I find the daily "what's for dinner" thread boring. I find weight loss threads triggering as someone who has worked hard to stop hating my body. But as an adult, I just scroll on by instead of asking people who enjoy those threads to only post under some stupid label. Some others here should look into that.
Well said. So many threads get labelled with politics that really aren’t and it probably stops a fair number of people from even opening the thread. We, and they, then miss out on their contribution.
It reminds me of the election year on the old board when politics was given its own board. Hester Prynne is all of us! ☺️ I don’t get it. I mean, I hate game threads, but I don’t bitch about them. 🤷♀️

Exactly. God forbid anyone discuss current events.
And speaking of god, as an atheist, I dislike threads or posts asking for prayers or saying people will pray for someone. I have never made a rude response to any of those or asked for them to be labeled so I don't have to see them.

Agreed but as Merge said - people can read the title and ignore it if it's political and if they're reading and something vaguely political is mentioned then so what...discussions evolve. They don't need to continue reading if they're offended or upset by it.

I agree. I don’t want a separate board. My point is that does seem like politics has always generated a lot of distress for some. And I’m not sure why. It is so easy to scroll by. I do it all of the time.
I use my phone 99% of the time so I don't even see labels.
It is pretty easy to see by the title if it will be political or not.
And just because a comment can be political or the topic political in nature (like women's rights) doesn't mean the posts are political.
Stupid in my opinion but the few loud cry peas made it happen.
I also hate the old thread label because I have seen it used on posts brought back up that are only 2 months old. Like seriously??
A medical mom is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere through overwhelming obstacles and endures the ignorance of those with medical degrees.
I hate the game threads too and wish they could be moved somewhere (like Outer Mongolia). And I agree about the politics label. Some of the things that are labelled politics quite obviously aren’t, and I believe there are a couple of people who label them as such just to try and wind up others. Because they’re so mature, you know? 🙄

Well I will be a dissenter and I truly don’t care. It makes me feel no different to open and post anything labeled or to pass on by. I also have no love or hate for the game threads. I never participate but I really have no feelings to them either way. The old thread label just makes me more curious so I always look at something labeled that. 😆
I do use my iPad 99.9 % of the time but really pay no attention to labels but I know that some people are limited to to time and whatever so generalities to what a thread may be about might be helpful or wanted by them. However I have found that some of the best threads are ones that start at one thing and end in another…so nothing is really off my radar and I just bop around here and there. But I am a whatever the majority wants is fine with me.
I completely agree about the "Game" threads. I wish they would disappear or have their own page! Was so happy to see someone else agrees with me on that.

Eh whatever, doesn't bother me any. I see the red Politics tag and I know just to scroll by without having to even look at what is posted. 99% of the time it saves me the energy to even look. But whatever, I don't care if they are tagged or not. I scroll by what I don't want.
I will agree I wish the 'games' would go elsewhere. I understand that the ones that play have fun with it and I don't want to discourage it... but sometimes it feels like I have to scroll past a ton of them.. life changing? no.. just a little annoying.
And case in point, this thread is labeled politics even though it's about labels and thread titles. Absolutely nothing political is being talked about.

I'm always on my phone and never even see tags. I would ignore them in any case. If it's keeping away people that don't want to discuss politics, how is that bad for you? Who cares?
Other than your perception that you're now a second class citizen because of it, I guess I don't see that it has any effect on the pages-long threads that devolve into political rants no matter what the subject was originally.
Thank you @merge for putting into words my feelings about the political tag. It drives me crazy and I find myself wanting to know who tags other people's posts so I can silently judge either their inability to read or their snowflakiness.

As I said, it unnecessarily stigmatizes the people who post on those threads, as if we’re not quite fit for polite society.
And I too am almost always on my phone and don’t see them, which is why when I do use my computer, the labels are really jarring.
Anyway, it seems the bullies think it’s a fun little game - which gives me a clue as to their identities - and nothing will change. I think admin deserted us long ago, so there’s no way to remove the ability to tag things that I know of.
I really dislike the threads that ask you to vote for someone that you don't know anything about.
Maybe another person is much better but extra votes by peas could really harm this better person. I don't vote if I don't know the person that I am voting for.
I don’t see the erroneous labelling as bullying, just stupid and petty. We’re all adults and able to decide which threads to open and read and that’s usually fairly obvious from the title. If by some chance a discussion takes a political turn it doesn’t mean the thread is *about* politics and instantly needs labelling as such. Anyone can choose to leave the discussion and not reopen it if becomes something they don’t want to read. But the knee jerk reaction of adding the label to a thread as political when it really isn’t is just juvenile and we don’t need self appointed labelling police.
Meh, I don't care - and if it bothers someone that their thread is labelled, it takes a few seconds to UN label it. As for calling it "bullying" that's so overused around here that it's lost all meaning.
I don't really mind the politics label one way or another. Just like any other thread, I read the title and click on which ones interest me. Sometimes I only read a post or two and realize it's not for me and move on. My eyes gloss over the game threads and dinner thread, I really don't notice them at this point. I do get irritated when the politics label gets put on a thread that really isn't political and I'm not afraid to click to remove it.
I don't care either way. I'm interested in politics, but don't always understand a lot of it, so I don't make a good debator. I relied on my dad and husband to explain politics on a level that made sense to me, but both are gone now, so I try to avoid the politic threads here.
With them labeled, it saves me a we bit of time by not having to click scan quick, and leave if not something I can contribute to. But, most one could figure it out by the subject line, so maybe we should do a poll and after a couple of weeks, if most want to remove it, then someone / we could ask Admin to eliminate it.

I think that’s what irritates me - the thread may not actually be political at all but someone (often not the OP) has decided they think it is (perhaps because of the barest mention of a name or some such) and adds the label. Therefore you might be missing out on what really is a non political topic that might interest you and the participants are missing out on your input on the subject.
