I have always had a bed with a fitted sheet, a top sheet with the seam side down, a blanket and a comforter.
Come to find out than many people don't use a top sheet. To me that is the most important piece of bedding. I always want something on me. If I am hot, the sheet is perfect.
Do you use a top sheet?

Yup! In summer it is needed and in winter I like the cool feeling all over when I get into bed and then get snuggled up in the blankets as well. Helps me sleep.

Yes. I know it seems to be a "new" thing. I just like a made bed and that includes a top sheet. I sleep hot but I have to have something covering me. So the top sheet wins. I can thrown the heavier top covering off but still feel "safe".

Yes. However, often when we travel in Europe, there is only a comforter with no top sheet.

I have to have a top sheet. I like a lot blankets or one heavy blanket. But I have to have a sheet right next to me, a blanket is too warm next to my skin or just doesn't feel smooth enough.

The top sheet protects the comforter from body oils and keeps it cleaner longer. I don’t get the logic of not using a top sheet.

For the longest time, I didn't use a top sheet but I just started again bc I have some neuropathy from chemo treatments and I don't like the feel of the blankets on my feet anymore. It's actually a twin sheet for my side of the bed because DH doesn't use one. ha!

We definitely have a top sheet,,, for all of the reasons listed. The comforter will make me hot and I can use the top sheet to still have a cover on me- I'd feel naked without something on me- lol, and it keeps body oil off of the blanket/comforter on top. I also love the feel of the cool, soft cotton of the top sheet. It's nice in summer and winter.

Yes, I have to have a top sheet. And I need it to be tucked in at the bottom. DH doesn't like it tucked in, so his side is not. And he'd probably be fine with no top sheet at all, but he goes with it for my sake. My oldest (32) has a top sheet on her bed, but neither of my younger two (25 & 23) do. And when they were making their beds while still at home, they didn't use a top sheet. I figured it's a generational thing.

I have always had a top sheet. The bed isn’t made without one.
DD always had a top sheet while living at home but she doesn’t put a top sheet on any of the beds in her home - queen a double and two singles. I don’t understand it. For me it means not having to wash quilt and cover or blankets so often and as others have mentioned I like the feel of being covered even when it is hot.

Yes, I have to have a top sheet, especially in the summer. I cannot sleep without something covering me, even if I stick my legs out because it is warm in the bedroom, and the top sheet is the lightest option. Then I will usually reach down for the blanket when it gets colder in the room.
My son hated using a top sheet, blanket, and top spread. He said his feet always got tangled up in the night. He did toss and turn a lot as he slept. I ended up buying him a lighter comforter and putting a comforter cover on it that he could remove to wash. Otherwise his comforter would have been worn out too soon if he washed that weekly. His preference was a cheap cover that felt just like a sheet. I just bought a few of those so that there was always a clean one to put on immediately.
He did a lot of painting and drawing and I gave him fabric paints in his stocking one year so that he could personalize his plain sheet comforter cover. He loved it. I originally thought he just didn’t want to make his bed properly until he explained that it made him feel trapped at night. He showed me how fast he could make it with the covered comforter. As long as he made his bed and kept his room fairly clean, I was happy. I wonder what he does now that he lives with his fiancé.

Always have a top sheet. I don’t have the energy to wash quilts as often as I wash sheets.

The top sheet protects the comforter from body oils and keeps it cleaner longer. I don’t get the logic of not using a top sheet. Europeans wash their comforter covers more often than the average American. At least that's what I've noticed over the years living both here and abroad. I'm firmly in the top sheet camp and will sometimes add a light blanket under the comforter in the coldest part of winter. My king size duvet is a bear to get the cover on and the top sheet keeps it clean longer. It also work well for DH who only needs the sheet while I need both since he keeps this house at deep freeze temps.

Of course because when it’s hot I can’t have a blanket on but still need something to keep the monsters off me.

No top sheet here. I can't stand having my feet covered at night so I can't leave it tucked in. I am a wild sleeper and it ends up all snarled around me which drives me crazy. We have AC so can use a blanket even in summer.

We've always had a top sheet and always will for the reasons already listed here. We're doing a Rhine River cruise in August and one of the things you can request is a top sheet. I guess they aren't automatically provided. I have already requested one. In other travels to Europe, we didn't have one and really missed it.

My bed is just like this. 95% of the time, especially in summer, I just sleep with the tip sheet over me. My DH uses the tip sheet and blanket because I like the room cold. The comforter is only for decoration when the bed is made.

I always make my beds with a top sheet. Then a duvet in a duvet cover on top of that.
