If yes who should the delegates choose?
My belief is an open convention would be chaotic and all but guarantee trump bring elected.

The Republicans are sticking with their convicted felon. We can keep our old dude because we have a plan in place if something were to happen to him - Kamala Harris. They should use her as much and as effectively as possible in the next few months. It’s our job to build up both Biden & Harris. But we also need to remind people what is very likely to happen if Trump were to become president again.

YES.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. The DNC and all of the bigwigs in the party keep insisting the the economy is great and that all these fears of Biden's age are unfounded. But NO ONE is believing it. The polls do not change. The polls are getting worse. I believe that if we hold on the path we are on after that disastrous debate, Trump will win and American democracy will lose. Joe Biden is a fine, upstanding, compassionate, wise and caring man who has been a good president, but it's time to step aside.
The general public does not want Trump either. I think a star studded Democratic convention and the excitement of choosing a new candidate that people actually want will suck all of the air out of Trump's room, so to speak. Most democrats that I know feel like we compromised on our candidate last time and rallied around Biden, the one man who could beat Trump, even if Biden was not our favorite or even top three candidates. Can you imagine the positive energy of engaging the people and the news media and empowering people to choose a candidate they really want? Let's suck up all the attention of the news cycles.
I can think of no better way to get out of this horrible situation of choosing between two very old men that no one wants to elect. Let the Repubs die on a hill with Trump. It's time for us Dems to choose a candidate that people are excited about. I believe it is our only hope.

The indicators (stock market, unemployment etc) show that Joe Biden does know how to fulfill the function of POTUS.
Whether people like it or not, we have to select one of two men and I don't want to live in a nation with DJT as the POTUS.

and the economy is the best economy in the world.. inflation is coming down (though prices are not going back to 2020), employment is high, the stock market is high and people's spending.. for all the moaning and groaning.. is continuing to be good.
we feel the prices at the pump and in the store.. and there are people hurting.. but wages are up, drug prices are down, and the infrastructure bill and others are pumping big projects into the country.
major nobel winning economists say biden is best. He continues more stability for the economy.
we can not accept a lying sociopath who should be or is on his way to jail.

That was opaque. Yes, of course we won with Biden four years ago. When I said that, I wasn't referring to running the same set of candidates as we did four years ago. Four years ago, the world and the US were in a completely different place. Yes, Biden/Harris won, but that doesn't mean they will win again now. As much as I think that they have done a fine job and passed much important legislation and they would 100% have my vote no matter what the circumstances, the polls are not moving in regards to how the general public feels about Biden and Harris. Trump has been and still is predicted to win this election. We have to move the needle somehow, as we seem to be stuck in second place. When I said "doing the same thing over and over again," I was referring to the Dem's messaging to the general public over the last two years. We have been telling people over and over and over again that: -the economy is actually better than they realize -Joe Biden's capabilities were not fading, he was as strong as ever -Joe Biden is not too old to be president again -Kamala Harris would be a fine president if something happened to Joe -Trump's administration was a train wreck -Trump is a dangerous threat to democracy But those undecided voters who will unfortunately decide this election in a handful of swing states are not buying any of this messaging. Trump and Trumpism have completely taken over the Republican party. There is no Republican party without Trump. He will never "not run." The Republicans will die on a hill with Trump. But we don't need to make the same error of sticking with "our guy" despite 72% of respondents (assuming general public here?) believing that Biden is not up to the job. Only half of registered Dems, the biggest pro-Joe cheering squad on Earth think he should run. Those are damning numbers. Maybe I'm being a Pollyanna, but the Democratic party came together very quickly and fell in line behind Biden rapidly when the message was that "this was the guy who could beat Trump." We don't have to have huge in-fighting and a party splitting if we have an open convention. We Dems can be the adults in the room and once again find the right person to defeat Trump. And frankly it pisses me off that it is even being suggested and discussed. I wish the news would stop pushing this damn agenda and start focusing on the nightmare that is Donald Trump.
How in the world they can keep pushing this as news and having discussions about it but say NOTHING about Trump and his felony CONVICTIONS is maddening to me.
I have stayed off of the debate thread because all the histrionics and hand wringing was making me angry.

Democrats have been recently winning special elections that we normally would not be competitive in. They recently over-performed in a district in Pennsylvania where we lost badly four years ago. Abortion is proving to be a motivating issue and we should be hammering the Republicans on that. Elections are real results - polls are not.

The Democratic candidate needs to be able to win in places like PA & MI AND AZ & GA. If people are serious about the need to replace Biden, they need to demonstrate that the replacement candidate can do that by talking about a specific person and why they are capable. This isn’t some National opinion poll, or talking in generalities about feelings. Make the case with specifics to demonstrate viability.
