Can Biden drop out and be replaced with anyone but Harris? DH, a non-Trump won't vote if his only other choice is Biden Republican, was ranting yesterday and asked if it was even legal for the Democrats to change candidates when Biden was "elected" in the primary?
I think it must be legal or it wouldn't have been proposed, but at the same time, without another primary, is that really fair? Not that the primaries are fair anyway, since after one state the candidates are already decided...

Yes, Biden can say, "I am not running" and then all the delegates are freed from their legal responsibility to vote for Biden at the convention. But only if Biden officially withdraws. The freed delegates are under no obligation to vote for a specific candidate. They can acquiesce to calls to vote for Harris, or not. Also, if Biden says "I'm in" the delegates can not legally vote for Harris.

I would like to know if it is possible for a new candidate to get on state ballots. Wouldn’t red states try to prevent it?

IF, and only IF, Biden drops out, Harris is the ONLY one who can receive the funds that Biden's campaign has.

I think this whole Biden should drop out is a media scam. Media is pushing it, not Democrats and liberals. They want twitler to win because he was always creating drama and chaos which the media thrives on. We have our candidate and he’s the best in the race and not a lying convicted felon.

Democrats don’t think they fall prey to bogeymen. This situation indicates they do. Concern trolling has proven to be an effective strategy to get Democrats to not fight with the GOP, but among themselves. It’s the same strategy that gets middle class folks fighting with poor folks over scraps rather than target the elites.

Without having read any of the replies (or for that matter, the OP), I'll give what has become my standard response.
I don't care if the candidate is Biden, Harris, or a rabid coyote. I'll vote for literally anyone or anything that won't turn us into West Russia like Trump and his SCOTUS handlers will.

There is video of Trump saying Biden is going to drop out. He then goes on to rant about how #$( bad Kamala is. The man is insane. Why is no one talking about the need for him to drop out?

Honestly, we're not voting for Biden. We're voting for the Administration around him. I don't think he should drop out. It'll be chaotic. He met behind closed doors with Kamala and the Dem Governors tonight. They have come out and said he's fit. I saw some commentary by Mark Cuban which is completely relevant here. I don't have Twitter so here it is on Tik Tok. Slide left to see it all: www.tiktok.com/t/ZTNr8m7Uj/

Only considered suspect by liberals when they’re not kissing Biden and the democrats asses. No one is kissing anyone’s ass out here. We’d vote for Biden; a manila folder; a can of Diet Dr. Pepper; a fictional Shona Rhimes character; three toddlers in a trenchcoat; a heavily inbred bassett hound; or an expired can of tuna fish if that is the alternative to the current Republican agenda. Happily. Without hesitation. Twice if it were legal. This is the grown-ups having a conversation about the deficits in our nominee’s profile. Something Republicans should be doing, times ten. 1000% this!

Actually what it would mean is Alexander Hamilton and other Framers were right that the voters in a popular vote election could not be trusted to pick the best candidate for president . You can read about it in Letter No 68 in the Federalist Papers. The Washington Post Editorial Board… ”From the Editorial Board: If Biden stays in and Trump wins, Democrats will regret not thinking more carefully in this moment.” x.com/postopinions/status/1808880228447527090?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

Period.

Only considered suspect by liberals when they’re not kissing Biden and the democrats asses. Girl, your candidate can't put together a coherent and truthful sentence at any time of day. Take several seats. It's hilarious to me that you don't realize the leopards are going to eat your face, too, when they come to power. So blind. Just look at how many people were churned through the revolving door of Trump’s administration in his four years in the White House. Here’s a link to an article about turnover during Trump’s reign: www.brookings.edu/articles/tracking-turnover-in-the-trump-administration/I think overall it ended up being like 92%! His supporters need to understand that the minute someone is no longer useful to Trump they are GONE. He has happily tossed dozens of people under the bus without so much as a second thought. When 40+ of his own former high level administrators and his former VP have all outright stated that they refuse to endorse him, that should speak volumes to people.

Should, but Trump front-loaded the idea that any negative thing said about him is “fake news” and that Rs who don’t support him are “RINOs” or “confused radical leftists.” It’s one of the key tenets of the strongman ideology. Front-load the brainwashing so supporters can mentally justify ignoring what they see and hear.

I think the Rs are responsible for a lot of the rumors of people losing confidence in Biden...fueled by Putin and others who want chaos in America.
All the people I know who supported Biden before the debate still plan on voting for Biden. The reporters are fueling the talk--sells more views on their website.....

And Kamala Harris smiles too much. New York Times Pitchbot.. ”Biden is too old, Hillary was too shrill, Obama was too aloof, Kerry looked French, Al Gore sighed too much, Clinton was too sleazy, Dukakis looked funny in a tank, Mondale said he'd raise your taxes, Jimmy Carter wore a cardigan. Why can't Democrats field a good candidate?” x.com/dougjballoon/status/1808656253616312738?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nwThe difference between those who regularly vote Republican and those who regularly vote Democrat is.. As long as the candidate has an “R” after their name they will for that person no matter what. Convicted felon, no problem. Found to have sexually assaulted a woman, ah no biggie. Lies all the time, who cares because he’s Republican and he’s getting my vote no matter what. While the Democrats keep looking for the perfect candidate. A candidate that will never exist. So when they can’t find that elusive candidate they either stay home or vote 3rd party to send a message. trump won in 2016 by 77,000 votes spread across three states. 4.4M voters who voted for President Obama did not vote for Hillary. They either stayed home or voted 3rd party. If they had turned out and voted or didn’t vote 3rd party trump would have not won. We’ve certainly been having a lot of fun since then haven’t we. Losing rights and protections by decisions made by the Supreme Court. And it’s only going to get better. I see 2 separate lawsuits have been filed by white men claiming they were discriminated against by DEI. Oh yes I think there might be some rumblings about OSHA. But more importantly we could be facing our last election if we don’t get our act together. Overly dramatic ? Or spot on? So the Democrats need to man up and women up, quit whining about Joe Biden being the nominee and show up in.force and vote.

Someone else sees the Republican voters the same way I do. And he has a point
…Christopher Webb..
“DEMOCRATS - let’s pretend we’re Republicans and stick together so that we can win elections in 2024 instead of self-destructing.
Please!!! Thank you🙏🏽”

When it comes to The NY Times anything they say about the president is suspect. Only considered suspect by liberals when they’re not kissing Biden and the democrats asses. If you click on the link it has a rolling list of “Biden Suck” headlines and stories. Yes Joe Biden has had some missteps and sometimes I wish he was younger. But the fact is, on his worst day he is still 1Million times better than the convicted felon dumpster don. And that is a fact. Aaron Rupar.. ”Almost every single story on the New York Times’ 2024 Elections homepage right now is some version of “Biden sucks.” It’s Fox News Lite.” x.com/atrupar/status/1809070231144313102?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

Trump attempts to distance himself from Project 2025, says he doesn't know anything about the Heritage Foundation. Hmmm. Yeah. They're just the folks who endorsed/put forward his three pet justices. And he's already stated his agreement with many of the most disturbing parts of the document, like gutting federal agencies and replacing career civil service employees with lackeys loyal only to him. x.com/justinbaragona/status/1809254509606035848

I'm not sure this is a great solution -if it is even possible- as he's killing California

But inquiring minds would like to know, just exactly how do you think Newsom is “killing” CA?

A record high budget shortfall Homelessness is out of control Promised funding to the Developmentally Challenged community scratched Minimum wage at $20 for fast food workers Increased mandatory sick pay which causes employers to experience higher employee costs And I value the relationships here and I NEVER discuss politics. So - not meant to be a hand slap to anyone - but I'll be backing out of this thread Oh and I absolutely am NOT a Trump backer!!

I absolutely believe Newsom is planning to run in 2028. You don't do a podcast with Marshawn Lynch if you aren't trying to improve your cred with a different part of the electorate. You can't win in 2028 by losing in 2024.
