I was a stamper/card maker first. I’m pretty sure I went to a scrapbook class while pregnant with DS. Or, more acurately, elder child (we didn’t “peek” that first time). I .think the album intended for that baby book and some sheets of 12x12 were my first scrappy purchase. All still here, I’m pretty sure, and not in any semblance of a finished scrapbook, I know full well.

We played in the river everyday and caught frogs and crayfish and rode bikes and baked cookies. I really hope you got some photos of some of that fun!

QOTD: Someone posted a question on NSBR asking what was your first Amazon purchase. It got me wondering: What was everyone’s first scrapbooking purchase?
My first purchase, after attending a Creative Memories party that my mum had, was some paper, alpha stickers, and the circle and oval cutters. Those were some of MY first scrappy purchases, too. Got some albums as well. Still use those circle cutters when my dies are not the right size.

I made my first scrapbooks in sketchbooks (just photos stuck onto the pages really) but I guess my first real scrapbook purchases in the US were probably Pioneer post bound albums and a big pad of ugly papers, in 2002. I may’ve bought some rubber stamping supplies before then. My local store Monkey Love Rubber Stamps was just down the street and my SIL took me there right after we moved back from Japan.

My first scrapbook purchase was from Creative Memories as well. I went to a party with my mom sometime in the late 90s. I bought an album, card stock and adhesive. I still use CM albums today.

Interesting. I started with cards/stamping as I mentioned, so I'm pretty sure that the first class I took was at some sort of local paper crafting store (I can almost-not-quite picture it). Then I think my next stop was Club Scrap, in their infancy, but I found their kits difficult to work with for baby pictures and I was really bad at remembering to look for the previews and skip (not that they were anywhere near as extensive or as hyped as they are now). Then someone recommended the original Two Peas in a Bucket to me. My LAST stop in scrapbooking before I gave up paper crafting entirely for two decades was Creative Memories. I don't even remember how I found them...I mean, someone must've invited me to a party, right? Seems funny to me that my journey went sort of backwards from the norm.

Shakti - I've never been to a CM (or SU, CTMH etc...) party. I do have a few items from those companies but they were picked up used. I did subscribe to Club Scrap back around 2002/2003 I think - I loved it but when the belt needed tightening, it was one of the first cuts. Pretty sure the OP Peas were my enablers on that

The posts for these dates didn't have links or I couldn't open the link. 11/11/2023 12/09/2023 03/23/2024 06/29/2024 I have found the three that were mine, copied and pasted the original sketches and saved them. Will upload to the Sketchy Saturday album in a minute.
boymom5 , can you--or did you already--add your March 23 sketch to our new Sketchy Saturday Flickr group?
jediannie, I copied & pasted the sketch you posted yesterday to the group.

I need to walk away from the computer and do some stuff around the house today. Sadly, no papercrafting, and not the kinds of adventures I usually photograph for scrapping later LOL. But first... QOTD: AussieMeg asked about the first scrapbook/cardmaking purchase we made. My question is: What will be your NEXT crafty purchase, big or small?I plan to slip into M's on Wednesday and pick up some cs in colours I am running low on (white, red, kraft). What are your purchase plans?

What will be your NEXT crafty purchase, big or small? I think we're planning on stopping into Ollies and seeing if ours has the vellum that was posted about on another thread.

QOTD: AussieMeg asked about the first scrapbook/cardmaking purchase we made. My question is: What will be your NEXT crafty purchase, big or small? I plan to pre-order the Paige Evans Halloween collection from ACOT. I'm also patiently waiting for the magnetic magic mats to drop at SB.com. I find it mildly annoying SB.com have had the magnetic mats under the "coming soon" section as next in line to arrive (per the "date expected" filter), but have been next in line for WEEKS and obvs many other things have come in before then that should have bumped the mats off the top spot on that page. I realize it's their website, they can do what they want, but it feels tricksy. I don't like it.

My first scrap purchase was creating keepsakes Magazine! I was in Impress Stamp store buying stamps As I was newly trying to be a stamper/make cards and I ran across an early issue of creating keepsakes and I was enamored! I was like forget stamping -THIS is the hobby I want to do!! I don’t remember my first purchase after that but I went all in and found a local SS, dmarie, and then 2peas. My next purchase will be Ali’s SBTM kit on the 10th. I can’t think of anything I want/need right now which might be a first! Maybe I can not buy anything until it’s time for Ali’s dd stuff? Doesn’t sound like me, though 🤣

I'm not sure when I will shop next but I have some basics on my wishlist - adhesive sheets, black cardstock, thicker vellum, and I heard about some good Christmas red cardstock when I was watching a video the other day so I should add that too. (It was laurafadora recommending C&9th Poppy in case anyone else needs a good red)
And Waffle Flower is trying to tempt me with their new Christmas goodies. I could pick up something new to use for this year's cards, but as I watch videos and see more cards, I'm not certain I love the postage stencils as much as I first thought I did. I might shop for a Santa layering die instead. I don't have any Santa stamps or dies! how?!

QOTD: my next purchase will most likely be albums and page protectors. I have 150-200 layouts to put away I have about 325 to put away... I did recently purchase 5 new albums when I found them at 50% off at M's, but albums are so dang expensive here - that was still $125. 75 of those layouts are current and I have space in albums, just being lazy. 250 of those are old layouts, 15-20 year old pages, and they really deserve a good home. So QOTD: I should buy albums and page protectors!!!

In the interest of full and fair disclosure, Bring Smiles to Seniors is the only card charity that will take commercial cards and even the free ones the Audubon Society and the like send you. So that total included quite a few free holiday cards, some free blank cards that I stamped "happy hello" or "thinking of you" sentiments inside (because unlike Cards for Cubs and Cards for Kindness, BStS does NOT want blank on the inside cards), remade Pea exchange handmade cards, and some cards I actually fully handmade myself. I can not claim to have crafted the lot of them! This is good information to know because I have a ton of those free cards that I've not had the gumption to throw away. QOTD: Someone posted a question on NSBR asking what was your first Amazon purchase. It got me wondering: What was everyone’s first scrapbooking purchase? Hum, for stamping it was a stamp in 1988 with embossing powder that the instruction said to heat by holding an iron upside down! It was from Hot off the Press. Scrapbooking would have also been something Creative Memories, but very quickly it was items from Michaels as well in the early 90's
Things on the lake have calmed down and the traffic back to the Twin Cities is horrific. Glad we are not driving!
Now time for the craft room? I made two more cards for my design team. Just a few more to finish off the year.
QOTD: Hum I really don't NEED anything, so it will be some spur of the moment sale or something. I really should be frozen!

grammadee - did you add all those sketches to the Flickr gallery? It looks amazing! That must have taken a lot of time. I am SO HAPPY with how easy that is to see and browse sketches! I posted a thread about it on the GS board to make sure Peas know it exists.

Since I've now purchased the vellum My next next purchase is going to need to be albums also. I'm still really sad that HL discontinued the ones I have been using - the others aren't as big/nice imo.

ETA: I can send you some if you want to compare, I have both (c9 & PTI).

My next purchase will be some items from the You Are My Sunshine collection at Pretty Little Studio. I meant to buy it over the weekend, but didn’t get around to it. It is very expensive, so I won’t be buying as much as I had hoped to buy.

If you wouldn't mind sending me a panel of the PTI one, I'd appreciate it. I've never looked at their site before but the cs looks a bit cheaper the C&9th.

Would a new boiler count as a crafty purchase since hot water can be a critical component of cleaning up after crafting?
Yup. No hot water here this morning. Never a good thing, but seems particularly ill-timed while I'm looking for a job....

Not the way you want to start the week, Shakti . I had more fun things to purchase in mind when I posed the question. hope it is a quick and inexpensive fix.
ETA: Just finished spending an hour putting pages into albums and storing away the various tubs they had been camping out in, waiting for their forever homes. Wanted to mention it somewhere in case I forgot to count it. Believe me, this ten points was EARNED--climbing on a step ladder, dragging out heavy albums, then returning them after the page or two went in.
My albums are all chronological, but I don't always scrap photos in order, so the pages that don't fit in my current albums go into a pile, which gets moved into an iris case, which hangs around taking up space until I dedicate some time to store the pages properly.

Trying to keep up with the QOTD in the chat 😃.
First scrappy purchase: I bought some Lisa Frank stickers for my Cabbage Patch Kids scrapbook. That scrapbook has no page protectors and somehow all the pictures and ephemera in it are pristine! I keep going back and forth about whether I should remove them from the scrapbook and integrate them into a modern day one with page protectors.
Next crafty purchase: I really don’t know. I’m in a bit of a holding pattern where I don’t want to acquire more stuff right now.

I’ve been doing the store in tubs thing too! I’m not a chronological scrapper. I store pages in albums by person or pet until the section gets too big and I have to dedicate another album to it. I’ve transitioned to storing newer pages in binder albums until they go to their respective post bound home. That said, I still have pages in tubs I’ve yet to sort.

Never a good thing, but seems particularly ill-timed while I'm looking for a job.... So sorry! In our old home (long ranch style with 4 bathrooms (two full, two 3/4) and 3 (yes three) hot water heaters I've been there done that BUT had another part of our home that had a hot shower. We had two hot water heaters go out within 18 months. The second in our master suite, and it was a month. The first was during Covid and fortunately it was the source of water for two of the bathrooms not the kitchen/utility room.
Shakti Hope that you get it fixed very soon! Think we might actually have summer temperatures here this week, time for some water fun now that the lake is not as busy. I am feeling for my friends/family in the Western US as they have heat advisories. I am glad my mother has AC in her home, added a few years ago. Otherwise I would be worried for her. I love the new flickr sketch board. So much easier to scan!
