Would a new boiler count as a crafty purchase since hot water can be a critical component of cleaning up after crafting? Yup. No hot water here this morning. Never a good thing, but seems particularly ill-timed while I'm looking for a job.... I completely relate to and have empathy for the feeling you get when critical elements of your home need replacing at an inopportune time. I hope you’re able to get your hot water up and running soon. I’ve been there. Cold showers aren’t fun.

PTI’s Pure Poppy is a perfect shade of red, and it’s nice & thick. Highly recommend. ETA: I can send you some if you want to compare, I have both (c9 & PTI). Thanks for offering. I have a partial sheet of C&9th poppy, as it turns out (I got one of their sampler packs). If you wouldn't mind sending me a panel of the PTI one, I'd appreciate it. I've never looked at their site before but the cs looks a bit cheaper the C&9th. I'll pop it in the mail today.

Shakti - oh no, hope you aren’t without hot water for too long. QOTD: My next scrappy purchase will just be adhesive at least for the time being. Going back through my stuff again, I’m overwhelmed by how much I have and how I haven’t been using it. A lot of it is older but I still like most of it. The last time I bought anything was probably 2020 or 2021.

So, the tech arrived and hit the system reset button. The little error message saying that some fan wasn't working was a lie. Now, why DH didn't hit the rest button this morning, I simply do not understand. I can't find when we installed, but it wasn't that long ago. Surely less than 10 years, but probably more than five. The manufacturer has apparently gotten out of the business or something like that, so parts are getting scarce. It's not clear what would happen if it really was that a fan or something had failed, because it's not clear it would replaceable.
But, it allowed me to ditch the crazy lady in Germany. Boss at company that laid me off in April was contacted by this woman, supposedly with two roles in our field at her company's office locally here. Boss wasn't interested, passed her along to me. SATURDAY AFTERNOON she's messaging me on LinkedIn, telling me there's a role that isn't quite posted yet, but it's a step down from what I've been doing. When I say I might be interested, she asked if I could come into the office Monday afternoon to speak with her team. She won't be able to schedule it until Monday morning. And I'd have to talk to HR first. For some reason, I say I could probably do that. Granted, that was when I had hot water. This morning I messaged her that it was not a good day for a job interview due to water situation. HR gets in touch with me and asks if I'm interested in the open req, THREE levels down from where I've been. Can't do anything with the job she hasn't posted yet.
But really, she is not behaving like a person who would be good to work for. Making last minute requests like that? For a job she hasn't managed to post yet? Really, come to an interview when I don't even have a job description? Clearly, my boiler was trying to save me from this whacko!

Oh, I just made my next scrappy purchase. Some 13x13 zip lock storage bags, papers, and embellishments/cutaparts from CS. I found some papers I purchased planning to make a SLoC and found a sketch I thought would work (cut some of those today). Also found a kit I want to not assemble per instructions, so I got some extra pieces to help do something different with them. And then a couple sheets of another paper with matching cutaparts. I think those will work with a OSW sketch I found recently. Oh, I also got a special release card kit. Because there was free shipping and because I trimmed two kits to bring on vacation next month, since that worked so well last year. So my stash is still getting smaller! Just not as fast as it could be? But I think the things I bought are going to help me use more of it up, so....

Wow, Shakti it does sound like the boiler saved you! TBH cold showers sound quite pleasant… It’s 92 outside, 83 inside, and rising. I’m understanding siesta culture these days. I’ll either hide in a darkened room with an ice pack or hang out with the spiders in the basement this evening. I have some junk-for-sale from the in laws that needs cleaning, and then maybe I will crochet and listen to an audiobook in the hammock. The basement is not a fun place to be but it’s a lot cooler.

When I was in middle school, with no ac at home, I used to read The Lord of the Rings sitting on an old throw rug in our basement during summer heat waves.

Joining in a little late. I am new to the quarterly challenges I am hoping it motivates me and kicks my mojo into gear. I haven’t crafted yet this month. I need to make cards for the current card swap on the nsbr board I had planned to have them done weeks ago. So that is my next project. I’m also hoping to start scrapping again. I haven’t actually scrapped a page in a while. I also need to work on organization. I’m looking forward to see what everyone else creates.
Trying to answer the questions that I remember …
Colors I use I think I use a lot of blues snd greens and browns. I love woodgrain papers.
I don’t remember my first purchase I think it was around 1994. I started with card making then switched to scrapping and have changed back to mostly cardmaking. Well actually I think collecting supplies is probably what I have been doing the most of lately. I need to get to creating more than collecting. I know some of my first scrapbook supplies that I remember were CM tools the cutting system snd corner rounder which I still have.
I use sketches sometimes. I like the ones from scrapbook generations snd have several of their books snd have the books from Close to my Heart as well.
The last photo I took was a screenshot of a card design I liked. The last photo that wasn’t a craft or recipe was of a firefly or spaceX launch which I doubt I will scrap. I also take pictures of meals when my husband and I go out and I never do anything with them and think I need to start.
I’m not sure what my next purchase will be probably something from Stampin Up they have been my last few purchases as well.

Scrapper100 - welcome to the challenges. I think many of us can relate to the collecting supplies aspect of the hobby Shakti - glad you have hot water today AND dodged an interview bullet.

Welcome to the party, Scrapper100! What are your favourite products from Stampin Up? I used to get alot of their Christmas stamps and some of their punches when we had a rep locally. And I think their pens outlast any others I have ever purchased. Shakti, I don't know if you have TIME to go to work with all the crafting you are doing and planning and vacarion next month LOL. Yay for hot water! And avoiding potential crazy bosses! beachy my shopping habits are much like my crafting ones--I go through times when I don't feel any urge to shop OR crop. but then other times it seems that my head is full of plans and I love everything I see and want to bring it all home with me. I "shop my stash" often, using those supplies I so lovingly--or frantically--purchased years ago, along with the newer stuff I have acquired along the way.

Oh, the crafting is very much tied to the job stuff. Just this morning I was lying in bed, obsessing over little job search stresses (still very much in the running? Last time there was an update it was probably going to make an offer. What did the UI website mean when it flashed a message about remaining balance?) when suddenly all those thoughts were whisked away by a flash of insight on something I’d been struggling with on my most current mini-crafty project. My brain is not subtle…crafting is overtly stress relief. I think I would honestly be completely losing my mind without it. And I say “completely” because I know I’ve been a little crazy as it is….

Sneaking in here from time to time between house cleaning for family next week. Have an idea for the cover page for my Summer '24 album, but my first attempt at wet media did not have the effect I wanted. Which should remind me that my forays into mixed media are more a journey of "What if?", than anything else. I learned one approach was not working. Well, at least I learned something...
Which leads me to the QOTD: What have you learned lately about your craft? Or what would you like to learn?
I have to constantly RE-learn that for me, the art has to be the process, not the goal. I have to just play with the inks and pastes and other materials until I get a result I like, rather than starting with a set result in mind. I get better results that way, and the process is a lot more fun!

QOTD: What have you learned lately about your craft? Or what would you like to learn? That I have a ton of cool things in my stash and I need to dig deeper and USE some of the stuff that I haven't been. Pulled out my colour blocking templates the other day and my Pages by Design templates yesterday and some of the mixed media stuff and a stencil recently. But there are plenty of things I've bought and either haven't used or haven't used often/recently that I want to focus on pulling out and playing with. joyfulnana posted a challenge about just playing with mixed media stuff and how it was okay to make a background and not necessarily use it on a page. I found that was motivating to pull out my distress spray inks, stencil, glitter paste... I've decided that it can be fun(ish) to play with that stuff but I'm ok with not having a lot of it because it's not my favourite thing to do scrappy-wise and I don't need all the things.

This is so me! But sometimes life crowds TOOOOOO hard and I don't even have the energy to craft--glad you are able to really use it as stress relief. WHO KNEW, reset button! Glad it was an easy fix. Ours weren't tons of water damage from the first during covid and some water damage with the second. So glad you didn't have a huge bill and an easy fix. Which leads me to the QOTD: What have you learned lately about your craft? Or what would you like to learn?I have to constantly RE-learn that for me, the art has to be the process, not the goal. I get better results that way, and the process is a lot more fun! How to be patient with my foiling machine! LOL, I finally stuck my toe into the foiling world and it is time consuming. What I have learned is to have another project going while the foiling system is heating to the right temperature for the size of plate I what to use. Have had some success with also using the left over with a blank plate to foil too.
Time to run to the bank and hopefully spend time on the water before crafting time?

I think there was one weekend after I had just gotten bad news after what I thought was a bunch of good interviews and wasn't seeing anything new, that I was just too down to craft. Even being in the craft room felt bad or wrong. I don't remember how I snapped out of it, exactly...something probably pissed me off enough to stop moping.

QOTD: What have you learned lately about your craft? Or what would you like to learn? In regards to watercoloring, I learned that the tools aren't the key to being good at the craft, of course, but having really crappy tools makes it far more difficult. I finally bought some decent brushes and they make a big difference. I had held off, knowing that I often buy all the things without putting in the time to learn how to use them. I'm also learning that if I have more than one piece to paint I can get messy on the first one and then be more careful on the second once I see that I don't like messy very much. I'd like to figure out how to spend more time practicing. I have time, I just don't always spend it well.

I was a maker with CTMH for 16 years and transitioned to SU in May. Not sure about any favorite products yet. I need to play more. I like their blends but they bleed a bit more than what I’m used to. I love that the colors match vs just close. I am sure I will get used to them. I love their mini die cut machine. I also love their card kits but have already collected too many and need to go through them and not just collect them. I also need to play with their embosding folders especially the ones that have matching dies. The idea of embossing and cutting at the same time is intriguing.
QOTD. I would love to learn how to water color I love the look but don’t know where to start. I also make the little crocheted animals. I have one kit I got for Christmas last year and haven’t touched it. I need more energy for sure.

I have one kit I got for Christmas last year and haven’t touched it. I need more energy for sure. I know this isn't exactly watercolor painting, but this is the video that got me over the hump and trying it. VideoI got the branch stamp set, the brush set they used, and a set of their pan watercolors. I've since used them to color other stamped images, which still isn't purely watercolor painting. But I'm feeling braver about brush use -- I always thought I just couldn't do well with paint brushes. So, I guess one answer for me for the QotD is I've learned how to use a paintbrush!

QOTD: What have you learned lately about your craft? Or what would you like to learn? I think I’m still in the process of developing a workflow that supports the type of paper crafter I am today. I’m learning I need to spend as much (or more) time planning as I do creating. I’m also learning navigating a way to better support and streamline my paper crafting is a process.

Which leads me to the QOTD: What have you learned lately about your craft? Or what would you like to learn?I'm not sure if this is what you meant by the question, but I learnt a new technique a week or so ago - how to add handwritten journaling to a digital layout. I used to scan it, then try to extract the writing from the scanned image and paste it onto the page. The results were okay, but not great quality. Then I learnt a technique where you scan your journaling, create an adjustment layer to adjust the levels, then turn the journaling into a digital stamp. It is awesome! I've done it on a couple of layouts recently, and don't be surprised if you see it on a lot more of my pages.

And speaking of journaling, here is the QOTD: What are your favourite fonts for journaling?
I love handwritten fonts, and I am on the eternal lookout for the perfect one. I have yet to find it. My ideal handwritten font should be print rather than cursive. Most of the fonts I like have one or two little things that prevent them from being "the one."
The font that I use most often for journaling is Sweeter Sandwich.

AussieMeg - that's great you found a better way to have your handwriting on your pages. QOTD: What are your favourite fonts for journaling?I primarily hand journal now but on the rare occasion I would use computer journaling I might choose a typewriter font or something like Aptos Narrow - I like the clean look of it.

QOTD: What are your favourite fonts for journaling?at the moment, I'm mostly using Remington Noiseless. I need to go through and clean up my font folder and install some fonts in Libre Office. I never got around to doing that when I set up this computer (in 2020) My ideal handwritten font should be print rather than cursive mine also - I don't handwrite in cursive so would prefer a manuscript handwriting font. If you find any good ones...

Oh, that's a nice one I tend to play it pretty safe with fonts these days after choosing some that were a bit too distinctive in the past. Looking back at journaling in them I don't love them any more. I've forgotten the names of the ones I tend to use but the main one is a simple sans serif and I have a kind of brush lettering font for chapter/month titles. I use a font that looks like old school Dymo labels for some labels. And whatever fonts Geralyn Sy is currently making word art in, since I use a lot of her templates and elements.
