I’ve already been anxious and upset all day due to the other things going on with Trump/vance. I see no need to watch a cult get together where the leaders lie and spread their MAGA message.

Totally. I live in a blue state and our politicians are just as corrupt as the Republicans. They just support social issues that make them look like better people. They aren't. There are also a lot of dumb Dems. See all of the dumb asses who posted on social media that they wished Trump had died. Like, go ahead and think it but don't act surprised when you lose your job, get canceled, etc. If they support "social issues that make them look like better people", then they already ARE better people by way of their actions. And saying you wish someone got shot on Facebook isn't the same as being, literally, stupid. Small minded and stupid. Suspicious of science stupid. The earth is flat and the Bible said it's only 5000 years old stupid, so that's how I'll live my life stupid. I can't be educated stupid. I'm sure you realize that without me needing to tell you, but I'll go ahead and do it anyway. You know what what I hate besides stupid suspicious Christjuns? Know it all condescending liberals. Critical thinking is becoming a lost art but no one likes an elitist sneering asshole either. I can't win.

What?? joylynaroundthebnd #1- Do you have documentation that children are harmed where drag people are? There certainly is a lot of documentation where children are injured for life by pastors, ministers, priests and other adults in authority. #2- Very few people that I know have said anything about disarming all citizens. Yes, I am for gun controls: background checks, registration, similar to regulations for vehicles, responsible storage of guns and ammo, no one needs an assault type weapon, not good for hunting, destroys the meat as does shot gun 'balls', red flag laws, and yes with the courts involved to protect all parties, gun safety classes and insurance. Surely that is not all, but a start. #3- I don't know anyone who wants open borders. #4- Numerous members of my family members, past and present have served our country. Most recent, my youngest DGS just came home from the Army. Living cousin served two tours in Vietnam. Someone has recently offered to take pictures of my uncle's grave in Manila, because he was killed on New Guinea during WWII. There are recorded records of others who have served during and since the American Revolution. There are a whole lot of people here whose families have served this country. I thank everyone for their service. Children should not be exposed to explicit material (in my opinion) ever. Yes, children have been harmed by other adults- I was molested as a child and teen by my father. About open borders - my opinion - if you are against walls at the border, deportation upon illegal entry - you are for open borders. Because at that point there is nothing to stop anyone from coming in. As far as gun control. There are so many laws on the books that are not being enforced. Restricting law abiding citizens further isn’t going to solve anything. We can’t even get law enforcement to put red flags on those individuals who, by their own actions shouldn’t be allowed to own a gun. We can’t get red flag laws in place or, in some cases, enforced by right-wing LEO because your side fights them tooth and nail. As the parent of a mentally ill young adult, I believe strongly that she should not be able to purchase a weapon. I mostly worry about suicide with that, since she's already made one attempt. But I'm told by your like-minded people that the "inconvenience" caused by requiring mental health checks for weapons purchases is a bigger concern than the actual life of my child. You need to look further into the reasons why Texas landowners oppose sections of border wall built on their private property, cutting off their property from the river that irrigates it. You should also look into how immediate deportation without investigating asylum claims is inhumane and against international law. You should most of all look into how past US policy in central and South America has caused the conditions many of these people are fleeing. Do you have any concerns about the harm women have suffered in red states when they can’t have a pregnancy terminated even after rape, incest, or a serious risk to the life of the mother? Any concerns about ten year olds being forced to have babies while being told that “it’s a blessing and opportunity” for them? Do you know anyone whose gay or trans child is now marginalized and made less safe in their own school because of policies that support bigotry? I do. How do you feel about the history of marginalized people, as well as any discussion of climate change and vaccines, being erased from curriculum in Texas and elsewhere? Public librarians being fired because they shelved adult books about LGBTQ issues? Have you ever questioned why your party scaremongers about drag queens abusing kids, which is very rare, and completely ignores the absolute epidemic of sex abuse going on in conservative churches? How do you feel about the loss of access to birth control and IVF and the loss of no-fault divorce, which means that women in abusive marriages will have to have their lives and suffering dragged through the public courts in order to be free of their abuser? Have you considered that without access to birth control or abortion, women can be forced to conceive and carry their abusers' babies and thus forced to have an unbreakable lifetime bond with them? How do you feel about a president and VP who intend to fire thousands of career civil servants and replace them with lackeys who are willing to do whatever Trump says? How do you feel about the potential for widespread lawbreaking and violation of the constitution when that happens? That’s the kind of world your like-minded people are supporting. Is that really what you support? Have you read Project 2025? Do you even care what happens to people who don’t look and think just like you? ETA: oh JFC I see you’re in Houston. Are you enjoying our adventure with Republican-mandated private monopolies of utilities this past week? Wake up.

And then there’s the fact that the convention of your like-minded people is packed with people who literally tried to overturn a free and fair election. They participated in the big lie, which has destabilized our country and our electoral systems. Your like-minded people are traitors. You really need to wake up.

Not if all they offer is lip service and a sound bite but offer no real solutions. I will continue to vote blue but leadership in my state needs a big change. I work for state government and I can tell you the corruption is there, the cronyism is alive and well. Just because the cushy do nothing jobs are being given to minotiries doesn't mean a damn thing has changed.
And yes there are some really dumb people out there. It's disturbing how our educational system has failed so spectaularly. But go ahead and condescend. That appears to be your lifeblood.

They really ARE the party of the uneducated and unintelligent--they have them fooled into thinking that they care and meanwhile they continue to enact policies that are designed to keep people poor and uneducated and making money for the rich. They are so blind. Every (literally) stupid white person I know is a Trump supporter. They are blind sheep and they continue to call Democrats sheep without seeing what's going on in front of their very eyes. That doesn't mean I think all Republicans are stupid --not at all. They've got a good thing going on for themselves, that's for sure. Some Republican politicians are that way. But Democrats have their own crop of entitled politicians and members (not all), who only care about what they can get out of it. In my 60 years I have yet to see any politician that cares about the people they serve. Oh, they talk a lot, but not much gets done. Strange then, that Trump feels the need to roll back all the things previous administrations got done.

We can’t even get law enforcement to put red flags on those individuals who, by their own actions shouldn’t be allowed to own a gun. Have you taken any time to look into the actual policy proposals of Democrats surrounding these issues? The issue with a wall is that it is not practical in many areas, and has not really shown to be effective. Also, many people ARE deported or turned away at the border. But we also have legal means of entry, such as claiming asylum. Not everyone that comes to the border is doing so illegally, despite what the right would have you believe. The Biden administration has done various things to address this, but Congress needs to act as well. As for gun control... My opinion is that we need federal laws to address this. Having different laws from state to state is not working well. Also, you do realize that law enforcement can't put "red flags" on someone unless there are laws that allow them to do that, right? Trump reversed that in his first executive order.

I had it on TV but turned the sound down because I couldn’t stand listening to the people suck up to Trump. And he sat there smiling because it was all about adoration for him, which he loved. Gross.

I’m watching it. As a conservative, it is nice to see like minded people come together to support a good cause. By like minded people do you mean conservatives who are pushing for abortion bans with no exceptions? Opposition to IVF? Or as outlined in Project 2025, eliminating entire branches of the government? Consolidating presidential power? Deporting millions of immigrants and placing them in detention camps? Or Trump's proposed tariffs that will likely send the country into a recession and increase inflation? Opposition to same sex marriage? The widespread belief that God saved Trump? (and somehow allowed one of his supporters to die and two others to be critically injured) Are those good causes? Maybe instead we could ensure access to contraception and safe, legal abortions. And we could make the path to legal immigration easier so people are not waiting 10 plus years. And continue with Biden's plans to tax the top 1% and help the bottom 90%. Or reasonable gun safety measures like limiting access to weapons of war, closing loopholes and requiring background checks, raising the age to purchase a gun to 21, ending legal immunity for gun manufacturers, investing in technology like fingerprint locks? As far as enforcing laws already on the books - no, there are not a lot of laws limiting access to guns. Republicans are stripping them away as fast as they can. A significant number of the remaining ones pertain to zoning regulations for gun stores and others that have little or no impact of access to guns. Also, there is a need for reasonable gun safety laws at the federal level, across the country, not just in blue states. More children die from gun violence than in car accidents. We're long overdue to pass reasonable gun safety laws to protect our kids. Those are good causes.

I guess she missed what TFG did to and said about the Khan family... When I wrote the response above I did not know Vance's marital situation. Knowing now that his wife is first generation American, his ongoing behavior toward immigrants is disgusting. He is shaming his wife and children first, but also HER family and his and all immigrants here. He has only proven that he is not honorable and loyal to his immediate family!! Shame on him.. Or the other side is that he thinks he can do and say what the rest of us are not allowed to or that his wife is his property alone. Shame!!

NO WAY am I watching that. In fact, I am only turning my tv on for Netflix or Hallmark Christmas in July because I don't even want to accidentally hear news about the convention. I am stressed enough right now, no way can I stomach listening to all the bullsh!t and lies and everything else. NOPE.

I’m watching it. As a conservative, it is nice to see like minded people come together to support a good cause. I wonder if this is what many Germans said about the Nazis in the 30s? Way more people need to study up on Germany in the 30s. I've always been a history nerd and have a minor in history. For once, I'm proud to say I've always been a history nerd. LOL Most people's eyes glaze over when I say I have always loved studying history, and it shows. LOL

They really ARE the party of the uneducated and unintelligent--they have them fooled into thinking that they care and meanwhile they continue to enact policies that are designed to keep people poor and uneducated and making money for the rich. A few years ago on a trip to Florida, my kids and I got lost looking for a state park. We ended up in some really rural, obviously extremely poor area, and I was so shocked by house after house with Trump flags. I'm talking houses that were so run down they looked inhabitable with yards that looked like junkyards. All I could think was, 'what the hell did Trump do to help YOU?'
