Kamala is more than capable of being President. And so was Hilary. To say that they weren't shows your bias against women. You can say that you don't agree with their politics. You can say that they were too moderate, not conservative enough for you or whatever. But they are/were more than capable of running the country. I don't know why Republicans are asking for Biden to step aside now. He isn't saying he isn't capable of doing his job now. He is simply saying he no longer wants to run for a job that requires 4 more years. But Republicans are going to do what they do, the immoral, soulless party that they are. this isn't aimed at you, it was just the last post I saw that did this. In many instances women are referred to by their first names while males are by their last. Is it because there are so few women who have ran for president? Or is it something else? Hillary makes since since there are two Clintons. I refer to Hillary as Hillary and Kamala as Kamala. I don't mean it as disrespectful. In real life, I call my male friend by his last name and his wife is by her first name. It's actually a fairly common thing that happens in my area. We aren't meaning anything by it. Its just what we've always done.

Harris' full statement.. Read the full statement below: “On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. His remarkable legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many Presidents who have served two terms in office. “It is a profound honor to serve as his Vice President, and I am deeply grateful to the President, Dr. Biden, and the entire Biden family. I first came to know President Biden through his son Beau. We were friends from our days working together as Attorneys General of our home states. As we worked together, Beau would tell me stories about his Dad. The kind of father—and the kind of man—he was. And the qualities Beau revered in his father are the same qualities, the same values, I have seen every single day in Joe’s leadership as President: His honesty and integrity. His big heart and commitment to his faith and his family. And his love of our country and the American people. “With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else. “I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda. “We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.” www.rawstory.com/kamala-harris-2668786756/

Having Kamala could draw in more young voters who are against old white men. and maybe lose votes because old people won't vote for a woman I’m old and I’ll gladly vote for a woman.

n many instances women are referred to by their first names while males are by their last. Is it because there are so few women who have ran for president? Or is it something else? Hillary makes since since there are two Clintons. This bugs me too. I think it started with Hillary because we had already had a President Clinton. We had already had a president Bush so people often called his son "W." In this case, I think we should refer to the VP as Harris just as we refer to the Republican nominee by his last name (unless of course we are referring to him by some colorful and much earned nickname.)

Regrettably, we're going to hear a lot about Harris being a DEI candidate. I mean… wasn’t she? He said pretty early on that he was going to choose a woman as his running mate. I just don’t see that as a downside, even though the GOP does. It doesn’t mean she is unqualified, but he clearly was looking for more representation from women in his cabinet, and started with his VP. Everyone says she is going to pick a white guy so I guess he’ll be the DEI pick this time. In seriousness we went so long with the wisdom that only white men could be on the ticket and get elected. The white men have been the DEI hires.

What happened to common decency? Biden just made a huge decision, and stepped down from the race, and Trump is all over his social media talking about "crooked Joe and how he's not capable to run the country." He doesn't have a respectful bone in his body. He could have wished Biden well, and moved on to other things, but no... had to get that jab in there. He wouldn't know respect for others if it slapped him in the face.

I can’t decide if I’m more relieved or scared. Why the fuck couldn’t he have decided this a year ago? Completely agree with you. I just don’t have a good feeling about this whole process. Now the question is, who will she pick as her running mate if she is the candidate. And what are the next steps to nominate a Democratic candidate?

There's definitely a sharp contrast between Republicans' and Democrats' responses right now. As far as the bs about Biden being unfit, he never said that, only that he was resigning from the campaign to focus on his job. Biden is unfit for office has been the Republican narrative and spin for the last 4 years. Also, a major projection because Trump is epically unfit for a million reasons ShapiroJosh Shapiro @joshshapiropa President Biden is a patriot who has served our country honorably in the Senate, as Vice President, and as one of the most consequential presidents in modern history.
President Biden has gotten an incredible amount done to move our country forward, defend our democracy, and protect real freedom.
I am proud to work by his side and am grateful for his leadership and his unwavering commitment to delivering for Pennsylvania — the Commonwealth that raised him.
Mike JohnsonIf Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough.

The Dems need to stop focusing on who’s the smartest, the most experienced, the most personable the most whatever. Buy a freaking map and find a ticket that can win the swing states. Newsom is stupid and it has nothing to do with whether he’s a good or bad politician - he will not help win swing states period. Find some people who actually have some strategy. Do not do what Hillary did and underestimate those states and let Trump win again. I don't think Newsom is stupid, but I am not a fan. And I agree he would be a terrible choice. Democrats need to pick someone other than Mark Kelly or any other Senator where they could lose the seat. Ideally, they will choose a governor from a swing state like Whitmer or Shapiro. Democratic governor in Arizona, who would appoint a new senator, certainly a Democrat.

I am sad for Biden. Being President is something he wanted for a long time. He always put the American people first, even with this decision to not run for reelection. He did seem to have more health issues in the last couple of months. I hope he can hang in there for 6 more months.
I think Harris will be the nominee. I feel she will energize the younger voters who did not want to vote for an old white guy. I hope she picks a strong running mate that can energize everyone else. But I do agree it has to be a white, CIS male. I hope in their efforts to besmirch her, the Trump party makes some serious errors in their campaign.
I am buckling up for the ride! It is going to get rough. But, I am still hopeful!

Speaker Johnson's full statement
At this unprecedented juncture in American history, we must be clear about what just happened. The Democrat Party forced the Democrat nominee off the ballot, just over 100 days before the election.
Having invalidated the votes of more than 14 million Americans who selected Joe Biden to be the Democrat nominee for president, the self-proclaimed ‘party of democracy’ has proven exactly the opposite. The party’s prospects are no better now with Vice President Kamala Harris, who co-owns the disastrous policy failures of the Biden Administration. As second in command and a completely inept border czar, Harris has been a gleeful accomplice — not only in the destruction of American sovereignty, security, and prosperity, but also in the largest political coverup in U.S. history. She has known for as long as anyone of his incapacity to serve. Regardless of the chaos in the current White House, our adversaries around the globe should be reminded that the U.S. Congress, the U.S. military, and the American people are fully prepared and committed to defend our interests both at home and abroad. If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough. "**

At the next general election, in November, I assume, there would be a race for a new Senator for the balance of the term. That election could go either way.

Well the GOP is assuming Kamala will be it. They've already started attacking her with the repetitive N-word replacement "DEI" and of all things, her laugh. From the party of maniacal laugher Tucker Carson. I too don't know yet how to feel about him dropping out. As long as the Dems don't cannibalize themselves I would hope it'll be okay. There needs to be a strong showing behind one candidate. No wishie washy allowed. They really should have been showcasing Harris for the last year or two showing her accomplishments with foreign trips etc. Biden originally said he was only going for one term so there should have been a search for the last 3+ years. That didn’t mean that Biden wouldn’t still get a lot done. I’m hoping they come out strong. I heard that Biden was behind Harris/Newsome.

As a woman, I feel a kinship with them that I don't with male candidates. They have dealt with the same misogyny, the same harassment, and for Kamala the same racism that a lot of us have experienced. They have had to walk down the street as a young woman and experienced the same cat calls that we all did at some point. They have been insulted simply for being female, belittled and made fun of simply for their gender. They have had to fight for their place just like many of us have. It's personal. The connection is deeper than it ever would be for a male candidate. When she gives her speech accepting the nomination, I will be watching with tears streaming down my face. And if she wins, I will proudly call her Madame President.

Regarding the Republican argument that replacing Biden is illegal. It certainly would not have been my choice for events to unfold this way, but Biden is not officially the nominee, he's only the presumptive nominee. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/07/21/replacing-biden-democratic-party-nominee/the Heritage Foundation went so far as to draft a memo making a legal case against Biden being replaced. It argued, for example, that Wisconsin “does not allow withdrawal [from the ballot] for any reason besides death.”
But as election law expert Rick Hasen noted this month, there’s a huge asterisk here — one that applies to any effort to suggest that Biden is the party’s committed candidate for president. Biden isn’t the Democratic nominee at all, in Wisconsin or anywhere else. He’s not being removed from the ballot because he isn’t on the ballot. The party has no nominee until its delegates vote at the Democratic convention in August, and now they will not vote for Biden.
Johnson’s argument is that this is somehow illegal because it runs contrary to the will of the electorate. (This is an ironic argument to make in support of Donald Trump’s position, given how he fared in the 2016 election, but that’s neither here nor there.) And while it is true that Biden won the most votes over the course of the Democratic primary process, it is not as though he triumphed over a crowded field of well-positioned contenders. Major candidates chose not to challenge him in part because none wanted to be blamed for helping Trump return to the White House.
A few motivations are at play here for Republicans. One is to cast Biden’s replacement as the product of an anti-democratic process, thus muddying criticisms of Trump’s hostility to American democracy. Another is to simply make the transition as painful as possible, launching lawsuits and rhetoric that keep Democrats from consolidating for as long as possible.
It seems safe to assume, too, that the GOP is aware that a long-shot legal challenge landing at the Supreme Court might yield a victory.
