Keep in mind that Shapiro(PA) beat TFG's chosen Doug Mastriano, he mastriano paid for bus loads of people to DC Jan6..
Shapiro is tough and also well spoken in front of crowds, besides being smart!!

I think there is a pretty good chance that Jared Polis, the gay governor of Colorado (my state) will run for president or be a VP pick. No way.. Polis on bottom of a VP or POTUS I mean in the future.

I disagree with Bret Stephens about 95% of the time, but he is more tolerable than Fox. I thought his criticisms of Harris were interesting, even though most of them are not really valid, in my opinion. I don't know what he's talking about never running a competitive campaign. She wasn't at the top of the ticket, but she did campaign in 2020. I also don't think that should be a requirement. I think he and most of the Republicans are really reaching with most of their criticisms of Harris. This seems reminiscent of Obama wearing sandals or a brown suit. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/21/opinion/kamala-harris-joe-biden-drops-out.html And I think that, of all the probable Democratic contenders, Harris is by far the weakest. She’s a blue-state Democrat who’s hardly ever run a truly competitive campaign. She comes with all of the Biden policy baggage, particularly the rise in prices and the immigration crisis. Her reputation as a manager is abysmal and she doesn’t seem especially well briefed. Her notes of sympathy for the campus anti-Israel protesters don’t sit well with a lot of voters — emphatically including me.I think this is his criticism of what Harris said about campus protestors but I don't see anything wrong with her statement. Also, I think the protests could be more accurately describes as Gaza supporters. I think he frames his entire statement with a falsehood or spin www.thenation.com/article/politics/kamala-harris-interview-profile-excerpt/The young people who have mobilized against the destruction of Gaza are unlikely to be mollified by these answers. What does she say to them? “They are showing exactly what the human emotion should be, as a response to Gaza. There are things some of the protesters are saying that I absolutely reject, so I don’t mean to wholesale endorse their points. But we have to navigate it. I understand the emotion behind it.”

Should we be concerned that some of the top Democrats haven’t endorsed VP Harris yet? I feel like not only did they just screw over Biden but are going to do the same to her. Idk maybe my spider senses are too cynical right now. I wanted to come back to this, since I read it when I was at dinner. I don't think it's a problem, if this plays out like television or movie credits. You know how they have a couple big names at the beginning, then in the middle is a long list of the rest of the cast... then at the end they have "with Nancy Pelosi" and with "Barack & Michelle Obama." IMO, it works better for VP Harris that the avalanche of support started without those names leading, and only come after it's a foregone conclusion, because those names are toxic to some people. If they don't endorse tomorrow, then there might be some eyebrows raised. But today, I think it's okay.

Trust me I want to be wrong but in the next 15 years? I just don’t see it. Please please please prove me wrong. 😁 I think there is a pretty good chance that Jared Polis, the gay governor of Colorado (my state) will run for president or be a VP pick. I definitely think he has that aspiration. I do see the stupid comments relating to his sexuality anytime there is a news story about him. As a teacher, I do not like him. He is not good for education or workers. I vote for him because the alternative is much worse.

My concern with Kelly as the VP pick is his history with guns. I know he is in favor of the ability to have guns but I am afraid that he will be portrayed by the R as being some rabid "take away their guns" lunatic. I have heard his name a lot though so I will reserve judgement for now.

Who is Shapiro and what specifically has he done that would want to make me vote for him over Pete Buttigieg? In the end if he was the VP candidate with Harris you'd vote for them, wouldn't you? I mean, your question makes it sound like you're questioning voting for Shapiro, that you'd rather have Buttigieg... But we need to vote for whoever gets chosen, and we shouldn't care at all if it's not the person we preferred. Personally I love Pete Buttigieg, and I would love to see him take down Vance. bwah ha ha ha. But I think there's still too much prejudice against gay people, yes even among the left, for him to win. Not now.

Those are the generally accepted rules and I really believe they'll wait for it. As of now, she's the presumptive nominee. It doesn't mean they have anything against her - it means they want to follow protocol.

He doesn’t want to take those guns away and has said so. His plans and ideas are more in line with those who feel they have a constitutional right to own guns and also want more restrictions and less access to them (especially high powered guns).

I’m curious what the republicans have up their sleeve by trying to get Biden to step down now. I don’t really see that happening unless his Covid gets worse but there has to be a reason they are pushing that.

I think if she were to step in as President now, the Republicans would tear down her every move and say that she is ineffective. It would also make her very busy for campaigning.

If they don't endorse tomorrow, then there might be some eyebrows raised. But today, I think it's okay. The top names being thrown around for VP- Buttigieg, Newsom and the governors from swing states - Beshear, Cooper and Shapiro have all endorsed her. Whitmer said she will not run against her. The chairs of all 50 state Democratic parties have endorsed her. President Obama has not yet, but I think he’s staying out of it to let the parties decide, like he did in 2020. I read an article about why he hasn’t said anything yet, I will try to find it. Eta- Pritzker and Whitney have now endorsed Harris regarding Obama endorsing Harris. He’s trying to remain neutral and not influence the process until she’s the official nominee Here’s the article Gift article- no paywall www.nytimes.com/2024/07/21/us/politics/why-obama-hasnt-endorsed-harris.html?unlocked_article_code=1.9E0.Bny5.1KBYcy4amaFU&smid=url-shareWhy Obama Hasn’t Endorsed Harris The former president has positioned himself as an impartial elder statesman above intraparty machinations and was neutral during the 2020 Democratic primaries Endorsing too early now would also be a political mistake — fueling criticism that Ms. Harris’s nomination, should it come, was a coronation rather than the best possible consensus under rushed circumstances, they said. Instead, Mr. Obama sees his role as helping to quickly “unite the party once we have a nominee,” a person familiar with his thinking said.

Or maybe they think they can make Kamala look bad if she steps up. They're just trying to steal her thunder right now - make noise and hope it's a distraction. Yes to all of this. In comparison to Harris, Trump does not look good. They’ve spent years hammering at Biden’s age and now they’re stuck with Trump. HCR said all of this really well heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/july-21-2024Biden’s decision has left the Republicans in deep trouble, and they are illustrating their dilemma with high-pitched anger that the ticket of their opponents has changed and by insisting that if Biden is not fit for another four-year term he must resign the presidency immediately. House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has said he will sue to try to keep Biden in the race; Democratic election litigator Marc Elias responded that “if your lawyers are telling you that they can prevent the D[emocratic] N[ational] C[ommittee] from nominating its candidate of choice, they are idiots. I know a lot about that, since I beat them more than 60x in court after the 2020 election.” Trump, meanwhile, has posted seven times about Biden since he dropped out of the race. He has ignored Harris. The Republicans’ anger reflects that fact that if Biden is off the ticket, they are in yet another pickle. Just last week, the Republicans nominated Donald Trump, who is 78, for president. Having made age their central complaint about Biden, they are now faced with having nominated the oldest candidate in U.S. history, who repeatedly fell asleep at his own nominating convention as well as his criminal trial, who often fumbles words, and who cannot seem to keep a coherent train of thought. Democrats immediately pounced on Trump with all the comments Republicans had been making about Biden. Republicans have already suggested that Trump will not debate Harris, a former prosecutor.

Who is Shapiro and what specifically has he done that would want to make me vote for him over Pete Buttigieg? Just wanted to come back to this and add to what I wrote before. You’re not going to vote for a VP candidate. You can vote in November for Harris and whoever she chooses (assuming she gets the nomination) or Trump & Vance. Just like in a normal year, the nominee will choose their VP. Voters don’t get a say. Are you going to vote for Trump if Harris doesn’t pick Buttigieg? I think more voters will vote for Harris & Shapiro than Harris & Pete. Shapiro is well liked and would help win PA for the Democrats, a really important state to win. Governor of Pennsylvania. Popular, well liked, a moderate and could win PA which is really key to November. He handled the shooting very respectfully and his response after the I 95 bridge collapse was impressive. I like Pete and hope he runs in 2028 or 2032, but right now, I think Shapiro has the potential to add more to the ticket.

I heard the governor from Kentucky Andy Beshear speaking this morning on MSNBC and he was great. Very positive and, much as I like Josh Shapiro, he's also quite a good choice. Beshear fired away at how Vance has portrayed southerners -- could be very good for the ticket.

I feel like many of the voters are disregarded by the primary process in the first place. There really wasn’t any other option besides Biden this year so now for people to be claiming that the will of the voters isn’t being respected is odd to me. Also, there are extenuating circumstances this year and that needs to be considered. My picks would be Harris and Shapiro, Beshears or Kelly. Would need to learn more to determine which of those I prefer. My #1 would be Shapiro. Bc he is from PA and we need that swing state. Did great when I-95 collapsed and good stance on abortion rights. Was very PC and calm during shooting. Kelly would be great but we need to keep him in the senate. Beshears would not bring us KY. He may bring us some part of OH and surrounding areas, but not KY as a whole.

I think they are trying to say the dems are covering up/have been covering up for him for months, and he hasn't been able to do his job for a lot longer than dems are saying (I think like FDR, didn't Elenor actually step in for him at times and that was found out after the fact?)

I am not up-to-date on potential candidates, but no to Harris-Buttigieg. Also no to two females, and no to two minorities, although a Hispanic may be ok. In my opinion, it has to be a white CIS male. As much as I hate to say it, this is true. There is no way a woman, a gay person, or a minority can win this election. Frankly, I think we're screwed no matter who gets the nomination. We elected Obama twice and Clinton got more popular votes. Harris had the largest fundraising day in history yesterday. We can absolutely win this.

My choice is Kelly or Beshear. Beshear did a bang-up job this AM and is clearly gunning for it. Kelly hits a lot of the right boxes. Both are seen as family-oriented, which, given Trump, is a good contrast.
Shapiro is a great candidate but I think she needs to signal bridge-building to the wing of the party for whom Palestine is a huge issue, and he ruffled their feathers with anti-bds initiatives. Newsome is a non-starter—we lose this election if we make it a referendum on California with two Californian candidates. I don’t mind Buttigieg but I don’t think he would bring in voters who were not already persuaded.
