I can't believe it is August! (Do I say that every month?) Anyway, I'm totally over the heat. Totally over it. I'm ready to sink into fall. God, how I do love me a breeze and the crunch of leaves underfoot. Makes you want to cozy up with a blanket project, doesn't it?
I'm getting ready to leave this morning. It is family reunion campout weekend with Jeremy family. I have a few things I must do to get ready and I'm procrastinating over coffee. He's in a hurry but I'm like, we got all day to get there. Many people won't even be there until tomorrow. So we've got time.
I need to take a crochet project with me but I can't make up my mind. In situations like this I just want to take something boring and mindless. I don't want to have to follow a pattern when I am trying to visit with everyone. However, I currently don't have anything small that is boring and mindless. I do have a skein of pooling yarn I wound up a year ago and started a little something then frogged. I could take that. I know what I want to do with it. I will also take some books. It looks like rain there all day Friday and Saturday. Yuck! So we need some indoor activities.
I've so far resisted trying to set crafting goals but my WIP pile is getting so out of hand I feel like I really need to. Has anyone starch stiffened any crochet items? I've been looking at all the ways to do it and all the products. I just don't know what is best. If you'd like to share your experience with this, I would appreciate it.
That's all for now! Happy crafting! Can't wait to see what you make!

The fact that it is August is crazy. We have had a mixed June and July weather wise but for the last few days it's been quite hot and I'm not a fan. Everything takes so much effort.
Craft wise, a couple of weeks ago I sorted through my fat quarters and picked out all the ones that said summer to me, lemons, pinks, greens, blues, floral, gingham etc. I've made a 60inch square of five inch squares, very straightforward and easy. I bought white flannel to back it so it can be a tablecloth or picnic blanket. I also made 12 metres of bunting using the same fabrics so it will all work together. I need a cool day to baste the quilt top and flannel, it's too hot to do it atm. I've made very scrappy binding as well. My other idea is to make a tote with the left over fabric to hold everything. The tote depends on my mood!

I’m with you jeremysgirl - how can it be August already? July was a slow craft month for me, between the heat and all the doctor’s appointments I’ve had for my head problems. I did manage to finish a sweater that has been sitting here sleeveless for ages, so that’s one ready for winter, whenever that comes. The actual color is much lighter, more a light sage green. I also finished a sock for DS, and its pair will be my hospital project for next week. I am also trying to finish this sock in the next week, so I can set up another project in case I finish the sock above. Tuesday I spent the afternoon winding yarn, and now have all these packages waiting. I will print the patterns and find the right needles and put them in the bags too, so I am set to go. From left to right - two balls of sock yarn, two cardigan projects for Lucia and then two cardigans for Sophia. I know it is far too ambitious for a month, especially one where I will have a major surgery, but better to have too much than not enough.

Hello Crafters (said in Ruth Madoc's voice, see here if you want to have an idea of what on earth I am talking about! I saw August Craft Thread as I scrolled through the topics and wondered why I'd not received a notification then it dawned on me we are in a different month! I did nothing crafty in July other than watch many YouTubes on mini albums and junk journals and buy the odd papercrafting item. Sometimes you just need to veg out the brain. Lovely colours in all your yarny things sueg! I really love how the stripes fall in sock yarn. jeremysgirl my FB feed is showing me a Halloween "Advent" Calendar where all the days of October are hiding a Halloween Gnome! Did you know there was such a thing? I've never seen one before. I did a general search and there's a Nightmare Before Christmas one! Just search Halloween Advent Calendar.

I have been in a bit of a slump. I have plenty of fabric and patterns but the mojo just isn't there. I love this pattern, as it is simple and mindless sewing. I am having fun with this one.

I had a slow July work wise, but from now until October almost every weekend has a wedding cake. So crochet time will be a bit less.
BUT I started my first Whatcha using a Cotton Kings yarn - my brother gets married in September and I'd really like to have it done by then!

This afternoon I picked up a recent needlepoint finish from the finisher. It came out really well! I was able to grab a quick photo before I gave it to DD for her horse wall. She has a wall in her home office filled with all sorts of horse prints and artwork.

I know it is far more than I will get done, but I also want a choice and I don't want to be digging in my stash or winding yarn balls if I am not 100%. am goin to be forced to rest - basically stay at home and do nothing much - and I am not even sure how much Screen Time I am going to be allowed, so knitting and podcasts might be my only entertainment.

cakediva when you catch a break from cakes, I'd love to see the yarn you are using. Ha - it's early, I'm still drinking my coffee and checking office stuff, so a quick snap was do-able! It is Cotton Kings Sultan - Mystic Opal. I find their photos on the site look more "muted/dusty" these are actually quite bright, but I think it will be a perfect thing for my brother's new boat!

You must be in your cross stitch phase. 😉 Nope, my needlepoint phase! I've never done cross stitch (counted), except for the stamped designs when I was younger. During Covid I discovered all the cute new designs and might have gone a bit overboard on ordering canvases! It's a really portable craft and has been perfect for all this hospital time. Of course, I'm itching to get back to the sewing machine...when I really don't have the time.

That is so pretty cakediva! I made whatchamacallit. I was working on it when Esther was in the hospital after her 4th suicide attempt. She had said to me that she thought it was the prettiest blanket she had ever seen. I had planned to give it to her once I was finished. I finished it like 3 months after she had passed away. It sits now on my favorite chair to craft in. And the colors match my craft room/office perfect.

Haha...but yes that would be a good portable one to take with you to the hospital.

July was such a busy month for me that I didn't do any crafty - zero! But, I decided to participate in the Cherise Shawl CAL. There was a yarn kit available so I went ahead and purchased that in July. The yarn is hand dyed and really pretty. The CAL starts today if anyone wants to join in.

Is the current house the one your dh bought without you seeing it? I remember you didn't really care for it.

Today I was surprised with a phone call telling me the 3 piece set was back from the finishers and ready for pick up. Was on my way to see DH in the hospital and it's not far from there so I made a quick detour. Shocked that they got 7 weeks! Usually it takes longer. As a refresh, this is the 3 piece set that I purchased the kits for in 1987 in London, that is based on the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries in the Musée de Cluny . The kit is from The Royal School of Needlework and is comprised of a wool tidy, needle case and pincushion. It is charted needlepoint (no design on the canvas and you count it out like cross stitch) and took me 30 years to complete all the pieces. The lining/backing fabric is from Liberty of London. Thanks for looking! Fronts: Backs: Inside: Full view:

And will you have an equal (or better) crafting space? disneypal - The shades of blue in that yarn are gorgeous! Can't wait to see the finished shawl.

How beautiful **GypsyGirl** and how determined of you to finish them! I love the medieval images; the unicorn is Scotland’s national animal.
