I was thinking --- is there any interest in having a Dec Daily work day for just 2Peas? I could open up a Google meet and we could work on our albums. Think about it and chime in if you'd be interested.

All this talk of gingerbread...Does anyone have a really good reciepe for gingerbread? Usually when I've made it in the past it's really hard and too much molasses flavor. I'd love to add gingerbread people to our annual cookie day this year. I am very behind on this thread but catching up! I ordered the 6x8 star album this weekend so I'm all set for December!! Make sure your molasses is not blackstrap; that could be why the cookies are harder and have that unpleasant bitter flavor.
mom I'm in for a December album work day!

I've used this recipe a few times. Our neighbor says it's the best gingerbread he's ever had. I like it because it's on the spicy side. King Arthur Gingerbread Cookies

This year we picked up a Cadbury advent calendar because we tried a bunch of Christmas candy in Scotland last month. Ikea also has surprisingly good chocolate in their advent calendars. World Market has a good variety including a Universal Yums international sweets version (I've given their Holidays around the World boxes in the past and they've been well-received.)

It's really early this year, it feels like. Not sure why - or even if it actually is earlier or not. Ali said it was the only weekend that worked for the volleyball schedule. I get that. I'm so glad it's this weekend because otherwise we have dance rehearsals for the Nutcracker. Thanks for the recommendation. We did one of these last year and it was fun for all of us. The link is not working for me but I found it on Amazon.

I'm totally good with prep day being early - I'd like to gather all the ideas before I commit to the foundation pages. It's the FOMO in me.

I'm just a bit gutted that it's 3am Monday morning my time, meaning I might not get a chance to watch until the weekend after! Hopefully I can do a bit each evening though.

Just a reminder to everyone participating in AE's prep day... the time changes in the USA on Sunday morning so you need to account for that when determining what time it is for you.

Thanks for the reminder. I thought congress voted to get rid of the stupid time change. And yet it still happens again and again. Why are we changing the time? It doesn't make sense anymore it just makes everyone miserable twice a year.

I have a question about doing foundation pages. While I've been doing DD since 2009 I've never done them. I work on pages as I go through the month or I just work on my album after the season, making sure I have photos and journalling for each day.
I'd like to do foundation pages this year. Does that look like making all the pages, including day numbers and then just plunking in the photos and journalling? Or do you create a bunch of pages and move them around as you need? Do you look at your calendar for the month and plan around that? For example if you know you have a Christmas party or concert, do you do a specific page for that ahead of time? I'm trying to not overthink it but just want to set myself up for success.

I'm trying to not overthink it but just want to set myself up for success. My first ever DD I did foundation pages like you describe in your first scenario. It was pretty much a disaster for me, I think I used 4 of the 25 pages I created. I've evolved over the years and rarely do actual foundation pages anymore. I will work on the title page, reason why, and a calendar or table of contents ahead of time. If there is a particular technique heavy layout I want to make I may start on pieces of it. I also move stories around depending on what works on the album, I don't get hung up on story numbers corresponding to the actual date it happened.

I will nail down a design I want to use and then put all the elements in a 6x8 pp to use, to leave room to adjust for photos, journaling, etc. There are a few things we do every year (Christmas concert, cookies, etc) and this year I may try and do those all ahead of time in more detail...we'll see. Trying to do everything except photos and journaling in the past has not worked out well for me!

Why are we changing the time? It doesn't make sense anymore it just makes everyone miserable twice a year. This is one of the many reasons I hope to move back to Arizona someday... they don't do daylight savings. I'd like to do foundation pages this year. Does that look like making all the pages, including day numbers and then just plunking in the photos and journalling? Or do you create a bunch of pages and move them around as you need? I'm trying to not overthink it but just want to set myself up for success. Foundation pages look different for everyone! For me, doing "completed pages" like you described where I just have to add photos/words later ahead of time typically doesn't work for me, except for maybe one or two with no number so I can move it around. I mostly create page "kits" where I just lump together supplies with a loose plan for the page and then once I have chosen a day, photos/words, I will figure out how it will come together. I will also create elements in advance, especially things that are more time consuming, like things made with the silhouette, mixed media or stitching. There is a lot of inspiration on the AE blog for foundation pages, including posts from me where I walked through my album set up and how I create page kits. There are also a lot of foundation page ideas from others and it's all free!

For example if you know you have a Christmas party or concert, do you do a specific page for that ahead of time? I'm trying to not overthink it but just want to set myself up for success. From personal experience and observing others here in the DD thread and on social media, foundation pages generally work best if they're not completely done and allow for flexibility. This can vary and look very different depending on the actual crafter, your inspiration level that day, how predictable your December schedule is, etc. In the flexible foundation page format, you'll find: 1. "Floating" pages where elements that would work well together (like a specific subtheme, colour scheme, etc.) are shoved into a page protector to be kept together. It's like creating your very own page mini kits. I think this technique is especially good to touch and play with your stuff. You become very acquainted with each little bit of DD hoard you have when you do this. If you decide to go a different route in December, you'll know exactly where to find everything you need since you've inventorised your goodies in these page mini kits. I highly recommend doing floating pages at the very least for this reason. And I also recommend stamping your stamps on post-it notes with identification of the stamp set in your stash to add to these floating pages. Since I started doing this, it's become so much easier to use all my sets when I get to actually documenting December. 2. Semi-finished pages where you've started putting some things down or cutting some up because you're quite sure they'll work for a particular story or in a generic way for any day. Some Peas do these semi-finished pages in different photo directions because they know they'll end up with a lot of horizonal or vertical pics at some point. 3. Technique play pages where you finish an entire element or background that is time consuming. Think of interactive elements and mixed media. You don't assemble the full page just yet but your flaps and hinges are done for example. You can combine this with number 1 and add the two or three papers and embellishments that could work with what you've made but the final choice will depend on your actual photos. Since this is the most creative type of foundation page, this works best if tackled well ahead of December for success. November scrappy fun, ya know. 😉

I'm trying to not overthink it but just want to set myself up for success. Ive done foundation pages in the past - mainly for things I know are going to be happening like the ballet, decorations, etc. While I do not do all the glueing, etc, I will stick the items I think I want to use in a pocket so it's all together when I sit down to scrap. For instance, last year, I used my silhouette ahead of time to cut out a mailbox to document my 2Peas cards and mailing them. I assembled all the die cut pieces ahead of time and then stuck it in my album, with no date or journaling. When it was time to document my cards, I added the date & journaling and put it in the right spot. I will do all the hard/messy/time consuming work ahead of time but usually NOT all the work. I will finish my Reason Why page ahead of time, because that wont change.

Ah, why do I start really getting excited for December on November 1st? As soon as Halloween is over I'm all about Christmas! I might have overspent a bit on the Paper Person shop Christmas release this morning, and I'm going to go sign up for Prep Day this weekend ... trying not to peak too soon haha!

I thought if I decided to do it last minute I'd scrap together from my ridiculous supply but then Kelly came out with cute AF kits that match my favorite Pinkfresh collection I still have a ton of and suddenly this is me,
