Just a little bit ago, I dropped my grandson off at Comic Con as he is a worker there and I handed him a small bottle of hand sanitizer since I have been hearing all these new cases of covid occuring. I was thinking to myself, I wonder how many people are still getting vacinated? Come home and this poll question popped up. lol
I'm on the fence about having it. Maybe after some time to see how it is affecting people, but 5 family members have had blood clots since the vaccines started. Nothing will convince me that it is a coincidence. No one in my family has ever had blood clots except my dad and that was when as very active person fell and broke his hip and was hospitalized in the mid 60s. They didn't automatically put a person on thinners when admitted to the hospital back then so it was common for clots to occur when going from active to very inactive.

Sorry you are having such a bad reaction. My arm was sore for about a week and then I had a rash that lasted at least a month it didn’t hurt or itch but it was still annoying. I don’t think I had a bad reaction the second time just a sore arm for a few days. I’m not sure I will get the Covid shot this time. I have gotten all the rest. About a month or so after the last one I realized that the chest pains I was having may have been related and then remembered having the same thing but milder a while back. Not sure if related but since the cases are pretty mild vs the first few variants I am thinking about passing. I’m also wondering if we had it the end of June husband tested but wondering if he had tested longer if it would have shown as Covid. I didn’t test as it said not to test if you get bloody noses and I was having a dry nose and getting a bit of blood - happens when it’s dry I get a sore I think. The “cold” we had lingered and it was up and down for a few weeks. Feel better and then a few days later feeling. Sick again. Sore throat and lots of coughing. I hadn’t been sick in a long time. I’m not sure if I had been sick since before Covid. To our knowledge we have avoided it. This was going around my husband’s office and over a month of so about half got it If I worked with a lot of people or was immune compromised I would get one. I have the current variant and would not call it mild! I am miserable. I’m on Day 5 and can barely move. My head hurts constantly, my throat feels like I have tiny pieces of glass in it, my teeth feel like they’re going to fall out (weird), I’ve lost all sense of taste and smell, and I soaked through my sheets for the 3rd night in a row. This is NOT mild.

I'll wait and see what my doctor says. I did not get the last booster, so it'll be about two years in December since I last had a Covid booster. My doctor felt like I did not need it and it was up to me if I wanted to get it. I did see him in early June, and at the that time he said he had not seen many Covid cases recently. Of course, this was before the recent spike, so it'll be interesting to see what he says about the new booster. I did get a RSV shot because of my asthma, and I do get yearly flu shots.

My question is do you know you have Covid by your symptoms or are there new swabs out for testing? I have not seen any test kits that are not out dated

For sure! Still got covid 1x even with the vaccine, but I can't imagine how bad it would have been if I hadn't been vaccinated.
Question: does anyone get both the covid and flu vaccines at the same time???

This link will send you to a page to see if a Covid Text kit can be used beyond the printed expiration point.

I test if I have had a close encounter or are going to see someone who is immune compromised (or where I want to be careful what I expose them to). I haven’t had symptoms yet so haven’t used that as a reason…yet.

Ours are all new and expire 2025. When we had Covid for the first time Feb this year, we were given new test kits and they were 2025 as well.

Absolutely! I talked to my doctor about getting a vaccine now since we leave on a Rhine River cruise next week. Our last vaccines were in November. She said it would be fine to get one now but I decided to wait on this new one. So fingers crossed for the trip. I might get it and the flu vaccine at the same time but I hate to do that because I usually feel pretty lousy after I get them both. Better to get it over with all at once I guess. Sorry the shingles vaccine was rough for you. They both were for me but I'm done now and it was worth it.

Of course. It's a no-brainer. Why on earth would anyone not want to protect themselves and others? Exactly. Especially since the "rules" for isolation are so lax now. At school we can return to work if we are fever free for 24 hours. If you don't have a fever you can return as soon as symptoms improve. You know that means kids will be back in school very quickly since the 5 day ban is lifted. This variant seeming to be so contagious makes me think it is going to be rampant this fall.

You encounter immunocompromised people who may or may not be able to get the vaccine every time you leave the house. We dont wear signs and you wouldnt know for most of us unless we told you. Please get the vaccine to protect yourself and others.

I get all the vaccinations that are recommended for my age, so yes. I usually wait until the end of Sept/early Oct though as I'd like the highest level of immunity to last through most of the winter. ETA: in the last 5 or so years I've had the whooping cough, both shingles, and pneumonia vaccines. I am very lucky to have only been really tired after one of them, but darned if I can recall which one. Also, one of them gave me a sore arm for a long time, but once again I can't recall which one. Anyhow, I feel fortunate than none have ever totally knocked me out of commission like some of you! The pneumonia shot for those of us over 65 caused my arm to be sore for probably two weeks. The second shingles shot made me feel a little ill, but not that bad. I also got the RSV and pretty sure that one it was no issues. I had Covid a year and a half ago ago and was prescribed Paxlovid and it did help even though it tasted awful. I felt really great after probably a day and a half. But it was the headache that did me in

I'm a hard no on the booster. I got the first shot and the 1st booster and both made me feel like ass for multiple days. No thanks. I had covid Christmas 2021 and just had it again late July 2024. (I wrote about my latest case in one of the Covid threads) I work in a HS and will take my chances with getting it again. This latest variant wasn't bad at all for me.
Shingles shot #1 didn't do anything to me. I started to feel a bit achey in the back and took 2 Tylenol and was good to go. I even cleared my calendar and planed to feel like butt. Shingle shot #2 didn't do anything at all, not even a sore arm and I again cleared the calendar just in case. I was pleasantly surprised.
I don't get the flu vaccine ever.
I will be getting the Prevnar 20 vaccine at the end of September. I got the Prevnar 13 and was told I need to get the 20. I chose the pneumonia vaccine over the flu vaccine because I don't have to get it yearly and will take my chances with flu. I have asthma so the pneumonia one was a compromise I made with my doctor.

No Covid vaccine for me this fall. I’m pregnant and prefer not to get the Covid shots while pregnant. I work from home and rarely leave my home so exposure risk is low.
I will get the flu shot though.

If you don’t want to answer I understand. I am just curious. Because I have had three Covid shots, was miserable each time, and got Covid twice anyway. I could put up with the misery if I had a good track record with it but I don't. But I haven't had the flu since I was a teenager, and that's about 28 years of annual flu shots. Those are mandatory for me anyway but, I don't mind them.
