Good morning, ladies! I'm coming to you from the very beautiful Ludington, Michigan. Photo below. It is so gorgeous here along Lake Michigan. I always hate to have to go home. We have been exploring a lot this weekend trying to figure out if we would be happy moving here. I really think we would. Yesterday we went to the bakery for breakfast. I had a croissant sandwich and it was delicious. Jeremy had a different breakfast sandwich on toaster sourdough. He loved it. Then we took a quick walk around the corner to the local yarn store. Honestly, you know I like to hit up yarn stores when I travel and I'll just say this was one of the nicest stores I have ever been in. Her selection was awesome. And she asked me if we were visiting. I told her that we were considering moving there. And she said we have tons of yarn groups, I could help introduce you to some people who share your interests! Friends!!! Then we walked a couple of blocks further and we found the health food store. They were small but had a lot of products that would help me supplement the big chain grocery store so I could continue eating whole grain, plant based. That's been a thing for me the past 3 months. We found two neighborhoods that we'd be comfortable living in. And the real estate is in our price range. Basically I'm saying, we could totally make this move. Something to think about. It's about 2.5 northwest of where we live now. And yes, they do get more snow. About twice as much as we get in Lansing. But I've never minded cold and snow. It would be worth it for such a beautiful summer. Anyway, I sat on the beach quite a bit yesterday. We found a stretch of beach with very few people. As for crafts, I've got some crochet things going. And then too, I've got a new quilt ready to start. I also have a bunch of home repair projects that we will be doing all winter to get our house ready to sell. Nothing is near completion. Anyway welcome to September! It's my favorite season starting. 🍁🎃

I think the biggest hurdle is we are 4 hours from the Windsor border and 2.5 from the Sarnia border. So still not a quick pea meet! LOL

Good afternoon. How is it already September? ?? I didn’t get much done in August - a combination of brain tumour surgery and it being hot and humid here. I’m hoping to get back into the swing of things now that I’m not so tired and the weather is cooling down. I did finish a couple of small projects - socks for me before the surgery: And some for DS2 in hospital and the first week home: Yesterday, I decided to treat myself. One of my favourite designers does a mystery shawl KAL in October each year, so I not only signed up for it, I bought myself a kit to knit it as well. . The first clue drops on 3rd October, which is the day we leave for vacation, so I will wind the yarn when it gets here and take it with me. We are driving and the second half of the trip is 5 days in a spa hotel, so I should get a bit done. jeremysgirl - the beach looks lovely and that town sounds so nice. I can see why you might think of moving there.

Happy September! I'm looking forward to a creative month. The 13-15th I have quilt retreat that's just an hour drive from here, but out in the countryside. Putting together projects to work on for that this next week. DH is still in hospital (though much improved!) so needlepoint is still happening as it is the perfect portable project. Mainly I am working my way through my canvas stash, although I did just order 2 new canvases in August . Currently have 3 ornaments on stretcher bars and kitted up, so I'm ready to stitch. I stopped in at a new needlepoint shop this week for threads and stretcher bars for the 3 projects. They were so helpful and friendly! I've been looking for a nice shop and I think I've found it. I love their attitude as well. They offer classes each morning where you bring whatever you are working on and get assistance. All the other shops insist that the canvases must come from their store, but not this one. That's so helpful to me as I work through a stash of older canvases. Best part is it is much closer to me than the one I was using previously. jeremysgirl - It sure sounds like Ludington might well be your 'place'! The beach scene sure is relaxing and I think a change of scenery for your current life might be just the thing for you. If you get moved there I may have to come visit. Michigan is one of my 4 states left to visit and I've been leaning towards the Lake Michigan side. Would be so much fun to meet up and talk crafts and quilting! This weekend I finished the Popeye's ornament. The kit came with beads for the lights around the sign but I don't like to work with beads. So the new shop suggested that I use a gold thread and helped me choose the right shade. Perfect call and I love the finished look.

mikklynn - I don’t know if I mentioned my brain surgery on the craft thread. I had surgery on 8th August to remove a meningioma, which is a type of brain tumour that is nearly always benign. It was between my skull and brain, just above my right eye. I was in hospital for a week, then told to take it easy for another 2-3 weeks. At first I was really tired and a bit light headed, but this past week I feel almost back to normal, except for itchiness along the suture line. I will need regular check ups, probably for the rest of my life.

Hello crafters, lovely to hear everyone's plans. sueg love the colours in your new project. I didn't realise you were having surgery, wishing you a quick and full recovery. Also hoping you have a wonderful holiday. My crafting plans for the coming months are two fold, Crochet, I'm doing this blanket, using up lots of yarn I already had. It's made up of 108 blocks, 9 columns x 12 rows. I've just completed the first row. And yes, there are lots of yarn ends to deal with but I plan to do them when I'm waiting somewhere or watching the upcoming Bake Off! sandra-cherryheart.blogspot.com/2016/04/faded-painted-roses.htmlQuilting I bought this pattern that has three options and sizes. You can either do two/three colours or scrappy. I haven't made any decisions yet, it starts on the 13th September. It's a sampler quilt but the process has been streamlined to make the process easier. My friend's suggestion was do two, a scrappy in one size, the epp in another size. I guess that is an option... www.talesofcloth.com/pages/red-sky-at-night-quilt

sueg I love your socks and I'm happy to hear you're on the mend.
I've finished a sock and started the other one, I'm forcing myself to pick it up and do a few rounds every evening, it might be finished by Christmas!

I like the gold thread too@gypsygirl. And one of my must haves for my new house is a guest room. We will be living so far from family that we need a place for everyone to stay. So if we move, please do come and I will be happy to host you.

Happy September crafters. Your possible move sounds quite idyllic jeremysgirl and I hope whatever you wish for works out well. sueg best wishes for your continued recovery and good health for the future. The socks are great. I did a little knitting last month then life got in the way and I had neither time nor energy to do any crafting which is counterintuitive when you consider how good crafting is for the mind and soul. I don't think much will be done this month either but I shall enjoy seeing every one else's projects so please make sure you post them!

jeremysgirl, you have my full support for the move, but I think you know that. That nice yarn store is a sign. Or just shop til ya drop. Either way sounds like a win. My LYS finally is offering a class this week that I really need. So, I might actually be able to do a project. I cannot believe how difficult it has been to find lessons and I need that in person help. I live in a big area, but intermediate classes are tough to find.

sueg, I totally missed your post too. I am so pleased to hear you are on the mend. And of course, the socks are fabulous! jeremysgirl, I could feel myself walking on that beach. It sounds like it is perfect for you! **GypsyGirl**, I am so lovin' your ornaments! The only sort of crafty thing I'm doing is putting some things together for my mom to try. Since my dad died she wants to be constantly amused by someone. She is kind of wearing us all out. I've got her some simple embroidery kits, colouring books with coloured pencils and markers, and puzzle books. I hope this works. I am in the middle of cataract surgery. Back in July I woke up and my vision, that is already dreadful, was way worse. Turned out to be a matching pair of cataracts right in the middle of my field of vision. I had my first eye done this past Monday and the 9th is the second eye. I can't get a read on how long before my new eye settles in, but I thought it would be pretty well set by now. If it is, I will definitely still be wearing glasses as there are a lot of areas where I have no vision. I guess I will have to wait and see.

jeremysgirl - what a pretty place. I can see why you wouldn't want to leave. I'm not sure where you live now, but are you used to cold/snowy winters? I'm sure they get a bit of that there. It looks so peaceful. sueg - love the socks and that yarn is gorgeous - can't wait to see your shawl. I'm glad all went well with your surgery, and you are recovering well. **GypsyGirl** - glad your DH is doing better. I'm so glad you have a needlepoint shop to visit. We have none in town, that I have been able to find. There used to be a great one, but it slowly turned into a yarn shop over the years. I love the yarn shop but do miss needlepoint. I haven't done it in years in part because of that. Your upcoming quilt retreat sounds wonderful. I love the Popeye's ornament. wellway - that Faded Painted Roses crochet afghan is beautiful. I don't believe I've seen that pattern before and may need to add it to my queue. It would be a great way, as you said, to use up yarn you have. As for me, I'm knitting another chemo cap to make for the cancer center across the street from our church. Then I plan on finishing up a prayer shawl that I have barely started. I have about 4 or 5 WIPs and I am determined to finish those before starting something new. I am really jonesing to start this Crochet Christmas Kitty, which I plan on giving to my sister for her birthday, which is in November. But I just am telling myself...no, no, no - finish up those WIPs first!!

I can't believe it's September already - the summer just flew by! Between work trips, a camping trip to Grand Teton National Park and a long weekend trip to Illinois for my sister's Celebration of Life, I was barely home in August. I did get most of a crochet blanket done that I'm making for my son-in-law. I have about 7 more rows to go and then just the border. I also started a cross stitch wedding sampler project for my daughter and her fiancé. I haven't made much progress on it since I've been concentrating on the blanket project. My daughter's wedding is October 11 and I told her I doubted I would finish the project before then, but maybe by Christmas. SIL's blanket is for his birthday which is October 4 so both are "due" around the same time.
Other than those two projects I haven't done much crafting. I think I managed to do maybe 2 scrapbook layout. Hopefully work travel will slow down a little soon and I'll have more time for crafting!

disneypal I live in mid Michigan now so snow and cold don't phase me. However this is about 2.5 hours northwest of where I live and on the lake so there will be considerably more snow. We are fine with that.

I've tried knitting and crocheting and just can not do it. I sew, usually purse/bags but right now am making a dress for one of my granddaughters 1st birthday. I wanted it full, with all the ruffles but think I overdid it. Well we see once it's done but I'm thinking it is going to be too much.

Oh malibou I'm sorry to hear about your cataracts. Is your mom crafty? Or is she needing to learn something new? Thanks. I will be glad go have both eyes done and behind me. Heck, I want 2024 done and behind me. My mom did those iron-on embroidery and cross stitch blocks from Aunt Martha when she was pregnant with a couple of us. She never managed to make the actual blankets though. My guess was she found babies overwhelming. 😁 Anyway, so I got her some of those to do. I got her the hoop and floss, but I also got her paint in case she found the needle work not to her liking. She has always enjoyed colouring, so I found some really pretty adult colouring books, with lots of flowers! I picked up coloured pencils, gel pens, and markers. She has always done puzzles, and I think those are good for brain stimulation. She is newly living in a retirement home, of her own choosing and choice. I think she isn't settling in as quickly as she hoped.

jeremysgirl That looks like a lovely beach and sounds like a really nice place. Northern winters scare me a bit but the idea of living somewhere where there are enjoyable summers and four distinct seasons is very appealing. I hope it works out for you to move there! I spent today finishing up two tumblers. I have never done any like these before. The first is a stainless steel tumbler that was created in the shape of a skull. I went for a distressed/tattooed look and I think it came out cool. It was a lot easier to do than I expected. The second is the first time I've ever done rhinestones on a cup. It's lovely but it was sooooo hard on my neck and back. Plus the rhinestones were very expensive. I don't expect that I'll ever do another one like that.
