Good Thursday morning! I have a question for you.
Each month I set up the Donna Challenge with a new theme, and since October is coming up, I need to come up with another one by Tuesday morning. Then of course I will need new ones for November and December.
Meeting the Donna challenge theme on a project each month earns you TEN POINTS!
So... What themes would you like to see for the rest of this quarter? I need three of them, but if you come up with at least one that will be a help.

DH struggles with reading due to his eyesight (and won't use a kindle which WOULD help) and I'm not sure why DD (who is an avid reader) doesn't just grab a stack of books and get cozy. The kindle would help so much! The ability to change the lighting, font, and size makes such a big difference. I change mine up all the time depending on the ambient lighting and how tired my eyes are or how dense the book is. As for your DD, is it a kind of anxious energy? I find it very hard to settle when there's a storm or other stressful situation going on. I'll spend all day distracted, looking out the window, checking for updates. Even if there's nothing to see or nothing to update it's just hard to focus on something quiet. It's annoying!

The great outdoors or the great indoors --it's getting to be that time of year... Around the house - I know some people have been talking about home reno layouts lately. On the water?

As to the well water/electric pump/storm/power outage thing, it's been a while since I was living that life, but can't you flush using a bucket if you fill the bathtub before the power goes out?

As to the well water/electric pump/storm/power outage thing, it's been a while since I was living that life, but can't you flush using a bucket if you fill the bathtub before the power goes out? We have also done that, but this spring and summer we never knew when a sudden lightening storm would cause a power outage. Thankfully it was only a couple of hours at most. The traffic accident was a bit longer, but we went into town to get dinner that night. Called first to make sure they had power.
For long term we would have an issue with our septic. Our tank is gravity fed, like normal BUT the drain field is up the hill from the house going away from the house. The affluent has to be pumped up there, underground of course. I have no idea where the pipes are as it was all put in to the previous owner.
If and when the power goes out in the summer, spring or fall we also are concerned about our hill-a-vator. We are 95 feet from the lake shore and 75 feet UP. No stairs as they were removed to install the electric hill-a-vator. It did happen once this summer--I was headed down to check on equipment on the dock with my 80 pound GSD and the lift stopped! I had to get someone to get me a leash so I could get her out and up the hill without incident. It was a bit sketchy. The generator contractor came today. My criteria? It has to be something that works EVEN if DH is not here!

I did not get any scrapping done yesterday. I did a bunch of organizing instead. I have a running list of pages I need to scrap, but decided maybe a spreadsheet would work better because I can delete things and condense when pages are done instead of having to rewrite the entire list... we'll see how that goes. There are at least 150 pages to scrap on there...
Photos I ordered came in yesterday, and a paper order I ordered at the end of July (a preorder held it up) will be here today, so I should not have a problem being inspired to scrap the next time I get a chance.

Linda checked in with jeremysgirl on the NSRB. They are safe, the house and cars are ok too. I'm finally, finally ready to start on everyone's great sketches. I took today off to take my mom to a Dr. appointment and then dinner with DS is going to take the bulk of that day off so as much as I want to start playing right now, it's going to have wait. Hmmm, I'll bet I have time to match some sketches and photos though . I should start a photo order too.

So, for anyone keeping score at home, this is the end of Week Eight of the new job. I had been starting to feel like maybe it was going to work out. I was getting invited to meetings. I was started to get meaningful work.
Then yesterday both of my bosses were at an offsite meeting that I had no idea was going to happen (they are located in another state). And the project semi-boss and I are working on was having a series of emergency meetings. NONE of which I was invited to. I had no idea why I bothered going in. It was so weird and so depressing.
Today semi-boss and colleague and I had a meeting to go over project assignments. Apparently, I'd been becoming involved with projects, but was not actually on any of the teams. Semi-boss was just forwarding meetings to me. At some point, semi-boss and real boss will meet and agree with these assignments, then real boss will disseminate them hierarchically and bureaucratically to the proper channels and THEN I will officially be on project teams. So, some time during Week Nine.
I have been working at start ups. This is making my brain hurt. But, on the plus side, it DOES look like I am going to get the assignments I'm looking for within some of the projects where we have more than one person on the team. And the company/both bosses seem very cognizant that both too much work/burning people out and not enough learning/boredom can lead to low morale and high turnover.
So I do think it will probably be ok. It's just moving DAMN slowly!

Shakti--Wow, 8 weeks already? Hopefully next week brings meaningful projects your way! joyfulnana--So glad you will have time to play after being a host! Thanks for the update from our Floridians! breetheflea--Glad you can get your mojo going! Time to scrap! grammadee--I've been diligent in counting points as I go, in that when I finish a "page in my crafting journal" I count up my points. I should take photo to share I am finishing up on #26 and have the photos printed for #27. Research for my journaling took longer than expected! I couldn't fully identify a building that I knew there was something significant about the photo. Finally found it with a Civil War referrence.

Poking all team members! We are close to the end of September. Start thinking about counting up your points. Play along with sketches--one or all for the bonus points!
Being retired and feeling like I owe myself some down time to play I've actually stayed on track! Maybe I can do the same in Cardtober? But my scrapping mojo is really going! So much fun!

grammadee I would save “oh woman” for Mother’s Day. Just my thought. October is harvest time, I really like that. November it seems cliche but Giving Thanks? December is looking a lot like Christmas. When the theme matches the time of year I am more in the mojo space to scrap those photos. Whether it be past years or current!

DD has a cross country invitational this Saturday morning (giant meet with 100 other schools) and had to be at her school to catch the bus at 6:30 am this morning, so [yawn] I'm awake... I probably have a good two hours before anyone else in the house gets up, so might try to catch up on sketches. Unfortunately, there is no bus back from the meet (an hour away) so I have to go pick her this afternoon. Time to go sit at my desk, finish my coffee, and try to summon my creativity before the sun comes up.
What is everyone else up to this weekend?

Good luck to your dd, breetheflea! Will she come back from the meet energized? Or sleep all the way home in the vehicle? LOL. I need to head out to the garden and harvest some more carrots this morning. I have the time, but not the mojo, to put a LO together before grabbing bucket and fork, but I may take a look at my photos and the sketches again. Might be able to pull out some supplies for my next scrapping opportunity.

That’s just crazy to me. I assume there’s a reason but still, it seems inefficient, not to mention presuming a lot about parents being able to play taxi so far away. I hope you got to enjoy our quiet time and early coffee! And hope DD had a great run. I’m treating myself today. Heading out to see The Wild Robot after lunch

Heading out to see The Wild Robot after lunch It's the first time that they've done that "no bus back" thing this season, unlike 2022 where it was almost every meet (both directions.) I think this time they had a bus scheduled and then the driver canceled. DS (11) really wants to go see Wild Robot, I need to read the book first, it's in my house, I just have to go find it.

I'll come back and catch up on the thread but wanted to pop in with an update.
Power JUST came back on (Saturday afternoon)- we lost it late Thursday evening. Very grateful to all the linemen out working in the heat and humidity here.
We're fine. House is fine - only damage was to a piece of trim on the screen room. LOTS of tree damage, multiple trees down in our yard including one blocking the driveway, and many, many branches down as well. Several sections of the side privacy fence are down and shattered. VERY glad we had those trees by the house taken down earlier in the year or things would have been a whole lot worse.
County-wide - 99% were without power post-storm and we're only down to about 74% without now so that's going slowly. There were probably tornadoes - I haven't seen anything official but we definitely had warnings and there's damage consistent with them locally. And yet, we're still doing SO much better than the Gulf coast.

Gotta keep up with the house maintenance chores.
Sprinkler system blown out this morning. Watered yesterday and temps will be in low 80's today. But things usually get winterized around here before 10/15. Boat will come out in the next 2 weeks too, as docks and lifts are removed so the ice doesn't take them out. Last winter we only had 6 weeks of ice and not great ice for ice fishing. We will see about this winter.
Lake is gourgous and sparkly today. I look out from my craft room. Amazing view, so blessed!
Finishing up #28, need title and journaling. Then might work on the last 2 samples for Cardtober. Or some misc pages for the Cruise album.
Speaking of cruises, DH mentioned we could go on a trip for our 20th in December. May be a little late. Suggested Bora Bora (friends went there for the 20th), and other destination in the Pacific Tropics. DH wasn't wild about those ideas. Looked into US Virgin Islands and didn't get a good vibe about staying on the islands. So I suggested a cruise. I like that you get to go to multiple places in a week or so, have entertainment onboard, AND they serve GF/DF food! That final reason is why DH says yes he thinks it would be a good idea. (My cruise in 2019 was a scrapbooking cruise--no interest for him, so I took a friend.) Working on my album helps me remember how much fun it was to cruise. Wish me luck!
