I think they both gave it a good shot. Trump gave it a good shot? What did I miss?

I stand by all the rumors that Trump uses adderall or some other substance. At the beginning of the debate, his eyes were almost closed. About 15 minutes in, they were all opened up. Weird. I noticed that and my theory was that he was trying to maintain a calm appearance, but he couldn’t do it. He started to get too riled up to maintain his composure.

Why do they keep letting him cut them off? Yeah this annoyed me too.

Why I was up at silly o'clock is anyone's guess but this interested Brit watched the debate, too, and the moderators gave the impression, to me, that they thought Kamala was not good enough to be there. They handled the whole debate poorly and I didn't feel they were up to it.
I was sorry for Kamala at first as she sounded so very nervous but loved it when she got in her stride. It is so refreshing to hear someone talk articulately, sensibly and with passion.

This is what Harris wanted. To let him ramble on was exactly why she wanted them to allow the mics to be on. He hung himself in so many ways.

This is an interesting observation because a Sky News Australia report said it was a disgrace that the moderators had turned against Trump and that it was like he was debating three people. 😂 This board probably feels like that for conservatives sometimes. Before Biden dropped out, I couldn’t have predicted how desperately I want Kamala to be president. I didn’t see the whole thing, but it looked like she smashed it. Maybe I’m seeing what I want to see, but I hope not.

I don't like the idea of Harris saying she would give $50k to new small businesses. What bout the current small businesses that are trying to stay afloat? And that she would give parents $6,000 child tax credit to new borns. What about those that alreay have children and those that have chosen to to have no children. They are all struggling in to make ends meet. It's very likely the Senate will be Republican so she would only get her most modest proposals passed, if that. The child tax credit is probably the most likely one she could get through. When the Tax Cuts and JObs Act (aka the Trump tax cuts) expire in 2026, this is the time to adjust tax policy to help the middle class. I agree there are many people left out of her plans, but you have to remember that Trump has no plan except tariffs which would raise prices on everything for everyone. This impacts lower income families more as they are spending a higher percentage of their income on goods than the more wealthy. If Trump were to actually be able to deport immigrants, he would decimate many industries particularly in agriculture thereby causing massive price increases in food. Her plans may leave some people out but his plans affect everyone in a negative way.

One thing that really got under my skin is when he said, "She is black/not black and I hear she 'puts out'". This coming from a man who will, "grab them by the pussy".

It is really quite something how badly she rattled him last night. I thought her statements about abortion were outstanding. Trump could not say that he supports Ukraine, just wants the war to end. That means he supports Putin. She came across as a serious person and Trump looked like someone who shouldn’t even be the mayor of a small town.
Republicans on Twitter the last couple of days thought they were so damn funny with their cat & goose eating memes and then Trump brings it up as if it is a legit issue. Gotta love it.

I stay out of political threads, but this one has been interesting to read.
I think most of the time people (including me) will see what they want to see vs objectively listening to what was said in the moment and evaluating it on face value. I was reading updates and then listened to the closing comments. I am very politic-averse, but I wanted to "hear" both of them speak. Her closing comments were about casting a vision for all Americans and the future and his closing comments were to disparage her and Biden only and focused on the past/and current administration vs anything he would constructively do or bring. That was a tell for me. Regardless of where any one person stands on issues, it is interesting to listen just to the words in the moment at face value. I am really trying to do that and what I genuinely want and hope for our country is someone who truly cares about people and wants to HELP people. I have issues with certain positions both of them take, but as I listened it felt very clear that while both of them, like most politicians, are in it for themselves to win, to have and wield power, Kamala's competence, composure and recognition that our country needs unifying in this moment of divisiveness make her the right choice for me. I am not naive. There will always be divisiveness, and I am sure she will bring some decisions I may not agree with, but if I think about my own home and my own life and choosing one of them to trust come in and help me run it, help me sort out issues and really try to make a better life, after last night I would choose her over him every time.

She won. It wasn’t even close. Trump looked pissed off, rambled, said nonsensical things, defended the insurrectionists, insisted that his crowds are the biggest ever, etc, etc. She baited him, and he bit, every time.

Her point about NATO was a strong one. Does anyone really think that if Putin could conquer Ukraine, that he would stop there? That little wanker wants to bring back the USSR. I wish that Republicans would take this threat seriously. They used to value NATO.

Every time. The other thing I loved was her 'well, there's crazy uncle Donald, spouting BS crap again' expressions while he was speaking.

”In the World of Boxing or UFC, when a Fighter gets beaten or knocked out, they get up and scream, “I DEMAND A REMATCH, I DEMAND A REMATCH!” Well, it’s no different with a Debate. She was beaten badly last night. Every Poll has us WINNING, in one case, 92-8, so why would I do a Rematch?
Donald Trump Truth Social 12:01 PM EST 09/11/24”
He’s a coward. Last night was his worst nightmare coming true. He had his ass handed to him by a strong woman and a black woman at that on national tv for all to see. So of course he is not doing another debate.

”BREAKING — Trump announces he does NOT want to do any more debates with Kamala Harris, even if they’re on Fox News.
Yup. Kamala wrecked him. It wasn’t even close.
And now he’s scared of her.”
Crazy Fenak…
”She destroyed him. It was the most one sided debate I have ever seen. Interesting contrast that Democrats were able to admit it when Biden collapsed but MAGA seems incapable of dealing with the wreckage of the Trump collapse -- even though odds have shifted 8 points.”

People truly do see what they want to see. I am amazed by the comments I'm seeing from my Trump supporting family members on FB today. "She is the queen of smirk!" (this followed by several people just putting the vomit emoji) "She is such an arrogant smartass!"
OMG. All Trump did throughout the entire thing was scowl and look like the Grinch while he lied almost every time he spoke. But Harris is an arrogant smartass??
I'm running out of the ability to bite my fingers to keep from getting into an argument with people who I otherwise like.
It boggles the mind how people who have listened to him bully and rant and rave like a lunatic for the past 8 or so years immediately call a strong woman arrogant and a smartass and all the other things I am seeing people call her.

I actually had a high school classmate that thankfully I haven't seen in over 40 years ask why she wasn't answering the questions. Time to clean out my Facebook again.

LOL. I have to say, every time someone IRL calls me a smartass, I always counter it with, “Well I would much rather be a smartass than a dumbass!” Shuts them down every time. 🤣
