Influencers will do anything for attention, to earn another dollar, to fill up their social media.
All that "fridge decor" is going to end up >> messed up and all over the place......the first time someone is looking for a snack, their leftovers, something to eat, making room for whatever they are putting in the fridge, etc...

I don't disagree. My reaction to this was WTF. It's like people will do anything for attention these days. But all the things I listed above were other people's reactions.

City dwelling often use a lot of takeout deliveries or pick up on way home or eat out. Not much need for food in the fridge. Old containers may not be food safe for storage, ok for a cold meal may be good, hot not so much!! Crash bang go those fancy vases etc...
I put food in mine!! Pretty full and I live alone..

One drunken night looking for snacks and it would all be ruined. Nothing comes between me and my snacks!

Ok, I thought this was going to be about all those containers that stack perfectly and neatly inside your fridge that influencers are always showing off, along with the ASMR noises that go along with the stacking. lol!
This is crazy! Something that would never occur to me do!

I'm sorry but W. T. A. F.
I thought the curated plastic clear everything in the fridge idea was bad. This? This is, I mean, there are no words.
Not looking forward to this popping up on my FYP or YouTube videos. Good gosh.
Not everything in your life needs to be well organized or themed.
It's okay to have boring.
It's perfectly okay to have space.
It's okay to have unorganized corners and areas in your home.

it's all about the clicks. I mean, who needs a picture frame in their refrigerator? It's so, so silly. I don't care if you decant things in order to have it look neat. But the decorative aspect seems silly for something that is purely functional. And that some people in the world go without every day. Just seems frivolous.

It’s ridiculous but it’s even sadder that CNN thought it was worthy of doing a story about it.

I don't have any inclination to do this, but I don't have a problem with it. If it makes you happy, and you actually keep the people in your household (and yourself) fed, do it.

I think this is one of the most absurd things I've ever seen.
Now if you have useful clear containers and all your leftovers and produce organized like you were creating a Tupperware catalog, I could understand. I'd never get there, but I could appreciate that.

Definitely harmless hobby to me. Don't they say a refrigerator is most efficient if it's neither empty nor overly-full? So if you have a house with a fridge that's larger than your food needs, this is one way to take up space, I guess. I can also see how it might help someone feel more inspired to cook their own meals or go into the fridge for healthier food choices if they have something in there that makes them smile. I definitely would rather see someone fill a fridge with decorative elements instead of more food than they need, only to have it go to waste. As for it making people feel inadequate? That's on each individual person, in my mind. No one is saying we all need to style our fridge, and even if they do at some point, so what? No one is going to make me feel a single bad thing about how I decorate my fridge of all things. Personally, I see it as inconvenient. But when you're a content creator you need to do things that get people talking, and this will definitely get people doing that. You're going to have the people who talk about how stupid they think it is, or how they think it's a waste of time, etc., and then a bunch of other people will complain back saying "Why do you care?", and "Don't be so negative!", etc. Arguing commenters are great for views, likes, shares, etc.

It's just like all of the crazy "recipes" people post. No one ever means for a single soul to make or eat those things---they just want to convince at least some number of people to lose their minds over them and feel absolutely compelled to comment, and people will go right ahead and provide that service every time.

The ones who want Pinterest worthy spaces. Neatly organized fridges. Keeping up with the Jones's has been a thing since the 80s. Don't remember it much in the 70s or talk of it but in the 90s it was very much a thing. Especially in middle class families.

melanell maybe I'm misunderstanding you but in one post you say that they are doing it for clicks and then in the other you say no one is consuming this content. I put forth the arguments I saw online about it in my OP. My position is that people are doing this for views. But I question the crazy people doing this much less than I question the people who think these things are fun to look at. People would not do these things if others wouldn't "stare" at them for doing it.

That there really are people so focused on some kind of weird perfectionism (because this is weird) that they really feel they need to go to these lengths?

Clean go co or whatever it is started the whole clear everything in the fridge movement and people went crazy. Spending thousands to get perfect newt fridges. You never see left overs, you never see milk cartons. You see plastic. Maybe some glass. Eggs perfectly sorted in a sliding bin or clear plastic egg carton. OJ or lemonade decentered into small plastic or glass single serve containers. Milk in plastic clear milk cartons. Apples neatly arranged. All kinds of snacks. Nothing to make a freaking meal. It's an illness. That is justified by money
