Good Sunday morning, Peas! Welcome to Playing with Pretty Patterned Paper! Each Sunday morning I will share some paper-only (using cut-aparts or precut sentiments/focal images) or paper-forward (with stamped sentiments) cards along with the sketches/patterns I used to make them (to the extent that I am allowed by the original crafter/poster). The name of the game is to play with your patterned paper using the same sketch/layout. Make a single card, as many as I do, or even more! More often than not, I will use stamping for my sentiments, but how you achieve the focal point (cutaparts, purchased die cuts, stickers, stamping, die cutting, stenciling, etc) is not part of the challenge. Use what you have to go with the paper you choose! Each week's summary description will be added to this post and the sample photo, links, and any description/explanation will be added in a new post. CARDtober 6: Crafty Al's Sheet Load of Cards July 2019Crafty Al's monthly Sheet Load of Cards sketches are very popular here on the Cardmaking board with a monthly challenge thread and also a thread for Peas to share projects based on random older sketches. This sample is based on an older sketch that worked particularly well for the two papers I wanted to use, which had two very different scales. I also decided to use all cutaparts, no stamping, which challenged me to resize the focal image/sentiment mats and rearrange/reorient the cards to fit my materials. I was deeply undercaffeinated when I posted and definitely didn't think I was getting out everything I needed to. Sorry!
I was thinking that my "challenge" was to use this particular sketch, either more true to the original or switching it around as I did.
EtA: The other thing about this particular sketch is that, unlike the SLOCs that we're used to, all of one patterned paper gets cut into the narrow strips for the edges, while all of the other is cut into the wide strip for the center of the card. That's what makes it a great choice for papers that have very different scales.

Thanks, Shakti. When dgs leaves with his dad for hockey practice, I will get on this. Just clarifying: to meet this challenge I need to construct ONE card, in this design, using a cut apart greeting. |

grammadee , I thought the same as you did. I’m sure those who love doing the sheetloads of cards can do a set, but I just did one, especially since I wanted to use an older 6x6 paper pad for mine, and I have very little in the way of cut apart sentiments or greetings in my stash, regardless of the paper size.

Yes, patterned paper with this sketch/layout. Sheet load or single card. Cutaparts or "made to order" sentiment/focal image as to what's to hand/in your stash.
More of my stash of PP doesn't have cutaparts/purchased die cuts than does, so I think this is the only week of my CARDtober projects where I didn't use stamping. I wanted to make sure I did demo using purchased focal points at least once, because I know we have some paper-only cardmakers who prefer that and wanted to make it clear that stamping is not part of the Playing with Pretty Patterned Paper challenges.

I tried composing my post on Simple Note when I made the cards, but this morning I ended up recomposing here this morning. Next week I think I will compose the post HERE on Saturday, copy and paste it to notes, and paste it back in here in the morning. I promise I'll do better! |

Absolutely that counts, grammadee! I love the way those go together -- very bright and cheerful. They also both have a bit of a vintage-y feel. I love the feeling of victory you get when you successfully mix to brands like that (well, I get a feeling of victory at least). These are beautiful cards, Shakti! I love the papers that you chose, and how you varied the sizes of the sentiment section. The papers sort of drove the whole project. I love many of Club Scrap's papers and collections, but I sort of hate just putting their kits together per the detailed instructions. Sometimes I don't even like the actual cards. This Magnolia collection was one where I loved the paper, hated the kit cards, and didn't like the stamp set either. I bought a sheet of the card print (the small scale), a sheet of one of the page kit prints, some solid card stocks from the collection, and the cutaparts. I knew sooner or later I'd find the right project. When I found this older SLOC sketch over the summer, I knew I had it (and that I could also use the project for CARDtober). |

scrapnnana - the tiny postcard is so cute, the stiching a nice touch and the background paper gorgeous. Happy Fall! grammadee - very fun! Shakti - thank you for the Sheetload challenge. Your cards came out so pretty. I had a paper pad I'm wanting to use up and luckily it had plenty of sentiments in it. (Only 11 though!) The assembly line method really helped here.

Shakti Your cards are so pretty and feminine. scrapnnana Such beautiful fall colors, and do I spy butterflies? grammadee Great use of a cut-apart for a birthday card. jjpeapea I also use SLoC to mass produce Christmas cards on occasion and today this is also the case! Very nice cards ready to send! So here is my contribution:
I have a ton of Carta Bella Christmas Market and at least 4 12x12 sticker sheets, these are off the partial sheet I have. Actually used scraps for the contrasting colors with very small patterns.

jjpeapea I really love that color scheme -- the shades of red with that dark cream/light beige -- festive, but kind of understated. Very nice sheet load! angel97701 I love your Christmas sheet load as well. Classic Christmas colors, great patterned papers, and I love the way you varied the mat colors and used your stickers for the sentiments/focal images!

CARDtober #13: A patterned paper fun fold! Good morning, Peas! Today's design is from Connie Stewart of SimplySimpleStamping.com. Connie is the first SU demonstrator I found on the internet and still one of my favorites. I like the variety of the projects she presents and that all of her content is free -- no subscribe to this or pay for that or give me you email address before you access! So I can freely share her printable and videos. Here are the three cards I made (but one will suffice for the challenge):  Connie's web post (which includes a video link): simplysimplestamping.com/w-fold-pop-out-card-tutorial/ and the download: simplysimplestamping.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/W-Fold-Pop-Out-Cards-7-2-24.pdfConnie's patterned paper version uses both sides of a double-sided paper and pre-cut die cuts/ephemera plus stamping. I used single sided paper, leftover cutaparts, and stamping. Use whatever you have that works for you. To meet the challenge, at least four of the six panels need to be patterned paper. |

Shakti thank you for the w fold challenge! Yours are so nice and so well done. There is something off on the inside of my card. I'm not sure about the inside fold lines. I left the inside for a personal note. The shiny stickers look more purple and less blue in natural lighting.

jjpeapea, your lovely lemon cards are so bright and cheerful. Now I want some lemonade… Shakti, I commented on your card previously, but I don’t think that I noticed how you swapped which papers you used for the two different cards. They look really good, regardless of which you used for the background vs. the strips. I can’t always pick papers that work well when swapping. angel97701, your Christmas cards are lovely. The colors are more subtle than are often used for Christmas, but the suble colors make the silhouetted nativity really stand out. gramma, your example cards are delightful, from the beautiful florals to the cute images, and I love the colors.

I gave up on my first idea and went with a none traditional color for Christmas. Patterned paper is Provo Craft, stamps are Scandi Christmas by SC Designs for Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine.

joblackford, I love those colors and the grumpy tortoises! Very nice recovery from a cutting mishap, too. angel97701, those folk artsy/Nordic stamps pair very well with those cool, icy colors and then the berry on the inside POPS! Thanks for playing (I almost always forget to post this)!

grammadee , your Christmas cards are so bright and eye catching. I love the blue and red combination, and the images are delightful! joblackford , I love the colors and patterns you chose, as well as the grumpy tortoise images! angel97701 , your less traditional color scheme is lovely, and the Scandanavian heart image gives a North Pole feeling. It’s beautiful! I’m not as happy with how the colors look in the photo. IRL, they actually go together better than they seem to in the photos. When I send the card, I will add a sentiment on white to the blank space, but I wanted to keep my options open.
