There are red flag warnings in San Diego County. SDGE has sent out notices that power may be shutoff to certain communities in the eastern part of the county, near the mountains. They are saying Tuesday through Thursday. One side effect of the Santa Anas, our weather today was gorgeous! It was in the 70's!
Hope everyone stays safe the next couple of days!

Ventura and LA County will see the worst. Wind will be 50-60s with gusts of 80-100 MPH. 🤯 Crazy!!!
My area will be 35-40mph with gusts of 50-60 with other areas of 40-50 with gusts of 60-75!

The even more crazy part is because of the low moving over to sit near New Mexico, my local mountains might see snow.
We are really having an odd winter. It needs to get cold and rain/snow.
I am over these darn mosquitoes!!

Anyone's school district closed? I saw a few were due to possible issues from the wind.

We’re going to see more and more of incidents like this, aren’t we? 😒
Anyway, I hope everyone is safe.

My part of OC hasn't had a significant rain storm yet this season. 😬 Same for us in north San Diego County. Usually we pack up/cover the patio cushions by the end of October and didn't put things back out until June last year because of the rain. It is all still sitting out this year. The wind is ramping up here in southern Ventura County. Good luck! It looks like you and pantsonfire are going to get hit much harder than us. No school closures even in the East part of the county which always gets hit hardest with Santa Anas through the mountain passes. We are not going to get more than 25-30 mph gusts at the most this afternoon, so other than closing the outdoor umbrella, I don't have to prepare much. If the winds were going to be higher, we lay the umbrella down so we can pick where it falls instead of nature taking out a few planters, etc.

I’m so sorry. Does the area have its power lines buried? The loss of power (due to above-ground lines) is always the worst with serious wind here.
Thinking of you all.

Majority of us have power lines up between poles. We have power shut off warnings in surrounding cities. Our line isn't attached to any in the hills or mountains, it runs off a different line thankfully. But along the foothills and mountains, the cities have zoned emergency power shut off for events like today. We had 1 fire in the Santa Ana River bed but it was quickly contained thank goodness.

We put away the covers this past summer, and we put them back on around November. Every time we think it is ok to put them away again, it rains during the night! And it is not even predicted in the weather reports. Some times there is enough drizzle for puddles to form on the covers and we have to dump off the water in the morning. It is not a lot of rain, just enough to annoy me because I like having the covers off of the furniture. Lol!

Does the area have its power lines buried? The loss of power (due to above-ground lines) is always the worst with serious wind here. Older and rural areas are more likely to have above ground power lines. Newer areas are underground. There is definitely a move to bury the lines as power companies have been found liable for wind/downed line triggered wild fires. Now power companies turn off power in high risk areas ahead of the winds. Every time we think it is ok to put them away again, it rains during the night! It's annoying to wake up to obviously wet cushions and puddles around the yard while our weather report shows 0 precipitation.

So in my neck of OC the air is completely still, not even the hint of a tiny breeze. Such weird weather.

Here we go... Is this an app or a website? Curious how close those fires are to WeHo (aka will they be impacted by smoke) and would like to be able to check in again later. Thanks!

The app is Watch Duty. You can hone in on a county or area. I have it set up for my area within 20 miles but you can move around CA to see where other fires are. When you click the fire symbol, it gives up to date fire info like acres, sometimes units working, evac centers, etc

Sunset Fire is about 1 miles from center of West Hollywood. From the Hollywood Hills camera at the sign it looks like the smoke is blowing west so it shouldn't affect you. But these Santa Ana seem to change and that could change quickly. Seems they have a handle on it. 20 units called
The Palisades one is taking off at 200 acres

That area itself is considered West Hollywood btw. So not sure where exactly you are looking at but you can use Pink Dot as a marker and see how far away you or someone is. The Pink Dot is near the fire.

We are sitting at about 18 MPH and had some gusts at 30 MPH. Visability is getting low due to clouds as well as dust and crap coming off the mountains from the bad fire we had in September

We are in an area that can have emergency power shutoffs, but not this time. And we are at the end of a line of electric cables that go through the foothills/mountains. As a result we've lost power due to wildfires quite far from here.
