They were able to get the planes into the air today for water drops... I pray that it begins to help. The images are heartbreaking to say the least. Agreed. The pictures and videos are horrific.

Damn! There is a new fire in the Hollywood Hills. Evacuations down to Hollywood Blvd!! The Hollywood Bowl is in the evacuation zone. Depending how it spreads it can potentially go all the way to the Observatory and the zoo. 😭 This one is really on the edge of the city!

This is all so sad, my heart goes out to everyone in the affected communities. These fires have become all too common but at least here in the north state we get a bit of a reprieve from Dec-April when it finally rains.
There are so many things that could be done to help but like other have said, that costs money and no one ever wants to spend money. Locally we have a lot of neglectful property owners that don't clear their grass. Local government needs to step in and clear it for them. Put a charge on their property taxes for the cost, that's fine, but get the grass cut for crying out loud. The house across the street from me burned to the ground in 2017. The same owners rebuilt and still let themselves be surrounded by 2 acres of 5 foot tall grass. I have never once seen someone mow that place.
We should also have tax credits available for fire hardening our homes. We can get tax credits for upgrading to energy efficient things like windows or putting on solar. How about some credits for getting a fire resistant roof, upgrading the vent mesh to ones with very tiny holes, etc. There are a lot of things I'd like to do to my place to help with fire safety but I just don't have the funds. It would be extremely helpful to everyone in the state to get homes fire hardened.
I could go on and on but the reality of it is I just don't know how many fire seasons I have left in me. The constant stress and anxiety every time it's windy really takes it's toll. I'd considering selling and moving but with housing costs the way they are I couldn't afford to live anywhere else at this point.
ETA: I haven't seen any counts on how many structures have been destroyed but I would be willing to bet a fair number of them were only eligible for Fair Plan insurance. It's only going to take one big fire to make the Fair Plan insolvent and then we have an even bigger insurance nightmare on our hands than what we are already dealing with. Something's gotta change.

Absolutely devastating to watch. Parts of our community sadly went through this on a much smaller scale in BC last summer and it’s just horrible feeling so helpless just watching the devastation unfold.

Another hilly area difficult to both evacuate and get emergency vehicles in. I woke up to the news that two of my friends have lost their homes. I’m so sad. I'm so sorry. I think it's high time to turn all of CA into a beautiful national park. Clearly, it's unhappy. It's not going to get better. Wait a sec, Florida first.

PACIFIC PALISADES —The devastating Palisades Fire destroyed historic buildings and multiple structures at two California State Parks last night, including Will Rogers’ historic ranch house and buildings at Will Rogers State Historic Park (SHP). The fire fueled by wind gusts up to 80 mph also destroyed parts of Topanga State Park (SP), including the historic Topanga Ranch Motel once owned by William Randolph Hearst.
While a full assessment of the damages and losses isn’t immediately available, here are the significant impacts known:
Will Rogers’ historic ranch house and other historic buildings at Will Rogers SHP destroyed;
Topanga Ranch Motel and all concessions destroyed; State Park employee residences destroyed;
More than 30 structural losses at Topanga SP and Will Rogers SHP.

Both are really nice well it’s been 30 years since I have been. So many animals. I hope they can get water drops tonight and get a bit of control before the winds pick back up. It’s just so overwhelming.

Thank you pantsonfire. I shared that with him earlier. My cousin in Santa Monica shared it. I don’t know much, but he is safe and that’s all that really matters. The Sunset fire is about a half mile from him and he evacuated fast. I’m not entirely sure if he was able to drive out or if he walked. He’s got enough to worry about and I don’t want to be an added burden so he will be in touch when things change. He is staying with friends for now. He also has a cousin as well as an uncle in San Diego if need be.

It looks like the sunswept fire has been halted.
I saw the best video clip on blue sky a water drop that just wiped out a huge portion of the sunset fire. It was amazing. Having watched this in real life this was just so amazing. It doesn’t usually make such an impact of course being at night the flames really stood out. I hope they make great progress tonight on these fires.

The bottom line is that there is no water where it should be, in reservoirs, fire hydrants, being routed down from the mountains into the arid cities. The reporter said it..they have a year round fire season in cali. They should be accounting for that instead of blocking the dams and neglecting to build the reservoirs that they were funded to do years ago. There have been wildfires in cali almost constantly over the years and they have not done a damn thing about preventing future fires. It is heartbreaking to know that the people affected will never be able to recover from this terrible disaster.

I just went on that app Watch Duty and typed in my old address from when I lived in LA in the late 80s. Although I thought it wouldn't be anywhere near the fires, it is right on the evacuation line.. CRAZY.. I mean I lived right in the city right on the Hollywood/LA divide. Down the street from the Chinese Theater. I would never imagine that area in a fire like that. It's all just city, not any wildlife areas.. it's amazing what a fire can do.

I can't believe that this is happening to you in winter! There is a ton more: Anna Faris, Ricki Lake, Cary Elwes, Cameron Mathison, Ben Affleck. I have been seeing Tom Hanks, Jamie Lee Curtis, Mark Hamill, Miley Cyrus (didn't she already lose a home once to a fire?).. and I hate that people are saying 'oh they are rich, no problem' Rich has nothing to do with it. A home is a home.

A home has memories. Collectables. It's your heart. When it is lost, no matter who owns it, it sucks.
The guy I despised from The Hills MTV show lost their home as well.
