Majority of us have power lines up between poles. We have power shut off warnings in surrounding cities. Our line isn't attached to any in the hills or mountains, it runs off a different line thankfully. But along the foothills and mountains, the cities have zoned emergency power shut off for events like today. We had 1 fire in the Santa Ana River bed but it was quickly contained thank goodness. We are in an area that can have emergency power shutoffs, but not this time. And we are at the end of a line of electric cables that go through the foothills/mountains. As a result we've lost power due to wildfires quite far from here. Well that was too hasty. www.ksby.com/news/local-news/sce-could-shut-off-power-to-thousands-in-santa-barbara-county-due-to-fire-risk?utm_term=homepage%20showcase,news,local%20news&utm_source=pushly

Wishing the best for the Southern California peas! My husband's family and my mom and sister still live there. The winds are no joke. This is scary stuff!

The fires in Los Angeles are just insane. From what I’m seeing, it looks like residents neighborhoods not the hills. Crazy!

The fires in Los Angeles are just insane. From what I’m seeing, it looks like residents neighborhoods not the hills. Crazy! I saw one photo taken from Venice Beach, looking towards the north, and it looked liked the fire was right on top of the city. And I saw a night photo, and the fire glow was insane! Did you see the story about Steve Guttenberg, the actor, helping out. Apparently cars were just left in the streets blocking traffic and he was helping to get cars out of the way, and helping people out. It is so scary and sad!

As the crow flies I’m about 15 miles from the northeastern corner of the Palisades Fire. Our wind has died down for now, but is expected to pick back up soon. 30-45 mph winds with 60-80mph gusts. Supposed to die down on Wednesday evening. We are not seeing any smoke at this time. oh yvonne is a bit closer than I am to the fire, but should be okay. She may have smoke though.

The fires are insane - it's flat where I am but the winds have really picked up in the last hour.
I was up in the Hollywood Hills the other night - everything is so dry. There has been no real rain yet this year.

Check and see if your area was expanded to mid Thursday. The NWS extended the high winds another day here and other areas.

There is a fire in Pasadena now right near where the Angeles National Forest starts. At 400 acres.

Is there any chance you can leave tonight? Fire can move so very quickly. I remember that during the Thomas Fire in Dec 2017, it traveled 15 miles to the west overnight. Since then, I'd really be trying to get to a safe feeling place asap. Same for you oh yvonne. Huge hugs, and my fervent wishes for safety for you and everyone threatened.

I hope everyone stays safe. I also highly recommend the watch duty app. It’s great as it chime when there is a fire in your county. Yes it will wait you up it’s not loud but when there are fires near us I click on the fire and the switch so I get notifications every time they update. After the Cedar fire in 2003 when we evacuated multiple times with a newborn I keep an eye on fires. That fire was insane it moved so far so fast. It started in the mountains near sunset I think and just hauled }%< it almost made it to the ocean. It just seemed that no place was safe. People were taking refuge in the stadium. There were tens if thousands there. So many homes lost. The air was bad for weeks. I never would have thought a fire could travel so far and so fast so I would rather evacuate while functioning that be woken up snd just have to leave. That was some of the longest days getting very little sleep. Our house was fine and didn’t get close but you just never know and we had grassy hills a few houses away.

Thanks so much for the info pantsonfire . I was offline all day and evening. Son is in WeHo, so it’s good to see the Sunset fire is out. When I checked the Palisades fire earlier today it was at 500 acres. It’s now at 3000. I shudder to think how large it’ll be in the morning. ETA: my cousin in Santa Monica said Palisades HS burned down. Is that true? She is preparing to evacuate. She has horses stabled nearby as well. I’m sure she is heartsick.

That school was used in many movies, the most famous was probably the original Carrie movie. I hope your cousin gets out safely!

I’ve just been catching up on the info the last half hour. Glad to see that the Getty is safe for now. Having to bulldoze the cars from the HWY after people got out of them and evacuated on foot is just something that I never even considered. It is a nightmare for sure.

SDGE has begun shutting off power to the north and east parts of the county. Stay safe everyone! Scrapper100 I know someone that lost a home in the Cedar Fire. That one came right up to the edge of the city of San Diego. Glad you did not lose your home!

I’m didn’t realize it was close to the Ghetty I have always wanted to go. I hope everyone that needs to get out can and safely. I hope livestock is also removed safely. I know that can be a real issue as some horses aren’t used to trailers. Im sure if they smell smoke it makes it even harder. Prayers for all effected.

Scrapper100 MichyM There are two Getty museums. There is the Getty Center in WLA on the hills overlooking the 405 Freeway and the UCLA area. The Getty Center is the one most people know. The one near the fire is the Getty Villa in Malibu.

It’s been over a decade since I have even done that.

This is just so insane. I don't remember anything like this. I was watching KTLA news last night and the weather person was saying that the winds really are not going to die down until Friday and even then they won't be gone, just not as fast.
What is mind boggleing are the evacuations in Santa Monica. That is flatland but the embers are just flying everywhere.

They say 2 are dead in the Eaton (Altadena) fire. The Coachella fire is 100% contained. Many places are closed today, including Universal Studios. Lot of schools closed, even here in the San Diego County.
Stay safe everyone!!! The fact that they are evacuating parts of Santa Monica is scary.
