This was a great episode ~ in Dubai! First they went sky diving which was awesome.
Carson and Jack got to scuba dive for the Fast Forward and came in first.
The others had to decorate some elaborate cupcakes and small cakes then they had to *surf* on this hoverboard type surfboard. Nick and Mike finished last at the challenge but caught up to Jeff & Pops on the train to the Pit Stop and beat them in a footrace so Jeff and Pops were eliminated. I like all the teams except Jonathan and Ana so it's going to be hard each week when other teams a eliminated.

What a finish! I thought the brothers might have been penalized for running but they all seemed to be doing it. DH wants to go to Dubai now. 😄 The scuba dive tank was incredible. Good epi!

awww... sad to hear that Jeff and Pops were eliminated. I liked them. I haven't watched the episode yet, and no I'm not mad about spoilers because I opened this thread on purpose. I actually like knowing ahead of time because then I don't have to worry. In this case I probably won't watch the very end when Jeff tells them they're going home because that will be sad. Yeah, I know I'm odd. haha

I agree- I was sad for them and then they just had the best attitude it made me cry and be happy for them instead of sad.

This was a really good episode and I was sad to see them go. They both had great attitudes and truly had a strong bond.

Sounds like trying to find an excuse for his poor behavior.

Was that mentioned in the show and I missed it, or is this after the fact and him trying to explain why he was such a dick sometimes? I haven't read anything about that yet, and while if true, I'm sure it is something that would certainly involve time to process and learn ways to do things going forward that would work well for him in regards to having it, I'm not sure how it can possibly be an excuse for some of the behavior I found most unfortunate so far. So if he is hoping it will act as a reason for that (and I realize we don't know if that's the case.) then I think he'll find a decent number of viewers might also have trouble making the correlation. The issues I have with him seem more personality-linked than ADHD-linked in my admittedly non-professional opinion.

I was bummed about Jeff & Pops. They were a great team. I loved the way their relationship played out on screen. They seem very supportive and loving towards one another and it was lovely to see that in a parent-child relationship. They didn't seem to have some of the same issues we've seen with other parent/child teams---the parent not taking the child seriously, or there being some degree of estrangement or lack of understanding/communication prior to the race, etc. They came across almost as a best friend team, but with an added helping of fondness and mutual respect.

Now this is a leg for the Amazing Race record books. I don't think that anyone would have predicted this outcome. Bulgaria is a beautiful & green country. Very rural and very clean. Beautiful scenery but it was a hot day. Jonathon did surprise me (or else it was great editing) by not losing his cool any more than he did. Probably great editing. Nick Fiorito and Mike Fiorito, the brothers are eliminated.
I don't think that they should have been u-turned.
Hans & Holden are really showing their strength. They don't complain as they used to and are hitting their stride. The teams stay in Bulgaria next week so we will see more of this beautiful country.

re: Jonathan. I started reading some stuff about how he has ADHD, and just learned this about himself. Was that mentioned in the show and I missed it, or is this after the fact and him trying to explain why he was such a dick sometimes? I saw a video he posted that said he was diagnosed with Autism after they returned from the race, and that this explains his behavior towards his wife and his other behaviors. Personally I call bullshit. What I see is a man emotionally and verbally abusing his wife on national tv. Who knows what he does behind closed doors. He also strikes me as a narcissist. While he and his wife were searching through the hay I heard him say to her, “This is all your fault”. When their car got stuck in the mud which he’d been driving he kept repeating, “Why do bad things always happen to me?” My guess is he read the comments of folks talking about his behavior once the race aired and looked for a way to excuse it. The video was several minutes long but I could only bear to listen to it for a minute or two.

I liked Nick and Mike right up until they were U-Turned. When teams turn on the whining in those situations it drives me crazy. I don't mind them complaining about the work of doing the extra task---I get that--you're tired, it's hot, it sucks. But the bitching that someone dared to U-Turn you in a situation where they are trying to stay in the game themselves. That just bugs me. (And it's not that I actively disliked them or anything, but I wasn't exactly cheering for them after that point.)
The mom & daughter even explained to them what happened. They thought they were the last 2 teams. Using the U-turn was a tool available to them to survive another leg.
These are all parts of the game---and if you opt to play this game you have to accept that just like jumping off something high, eating something disgusting, doing something painful, being U-turned is something that might happen to you.

I felt bad for both teams that were U-turned. The log challenge was grueling and then to have to do the haystack was awful. I'd be bitching too. They were gracious when Phil told them they had been eliminated and boy it brought back the memories of the haystacks years ago when Phil had to show up in the dark to tell a team they were eliminated.
I still think Jonathan is a tool.

Only 5 teams left! The mother/daughter team misread the clue that said do not take a taxi and they took taxi's everywhere. I wonder how they got that much money. They came in last anyway so it didn't really harm their standing. The teams sure had to do a lot of running around to get clues this episode. Or is that just me? That deciphering thing was hard.

The teams sure had to do a lot of running around to get clues this episode. Or is that just me? That deciphering thing was hard. I have a feeling that a lot of the places they ran to were closer together than it seemed, but people spent a lot of time running around searching, so it seemed like the clues were further apart than they really were. I was surprised at some of the choices and mistakes this leg. We're getting really close to the end for people to be dropping their guard and their observation skills now. Alyssa & Josiah noticed and recognized the "AR37" on the klek, which I *NEVER* would have noticed, and yet didn't think to even once pick that cipher up off the table? Especially after they mentioned practicing escape rooms. Manipulating everything around you is a big part of escape rooms. (I was also astounded that Jonathan & Ana gave Alyssa & Josiah that hint---and then Alyssa & Josiah beat them to the mat. I felt like it's really late in the game to be handing out such major help willy nilly like that. Same with Han & Holden. Holden was all "We need every bit of info first", and yet they too never fully manipulated the one tool they had at their disposal. Then they opted to run off on their own rather than wait a minute for directions? But at least they recognized that they had not been their best that leg and vowed to do better going forward. Carson & Jack were not the least bit careful to hide what they were doing with the cipher, and therefore wound up with Han & Holden and Melinda & Erika right on their tail afterwards. And despite running into the man from the woodcutting task (Which was SO awesome! Can you imagine--you're running around a city you never heard of in Bulgaria and suddenly see someone you recognize, who is NOT another team!) who explained the klek shop so well, they still didn't seem to get it right away when they arrived. And of course Melinda & Erika--oh my gosh, I was glad they came in last, because I can only imagine how bad Erika would have felt if she was the cause of them being eliminated by misreading the clue and making them incur what I imagine would have been multiple time penalties. Especially after she had been really rough on her mother earlier in the day when she felt her mom was wrong about something. I felt badly for Melinda, because she really did well in the dancing with her knowledge of Greek dance, and it was a too little, too late moment for them. So, after I busted everyone for their mistakes, I will say that I was very impressed with everyone when it came to the dancing. Mark, obviously was going to do well. But then Ana came in with dance talent, and Melinda had knowledge of Greek dancing, and even Josiah had some non-professional dance experience. Then Carson & jack, who both groaned at the idea of dancing, still were in and out of the task quickly. So, yeah, they all wowed me there.

Bulgaria is a beautiful country! I love how everyone seemed so friendly to help. I love all the teams except for Jonathon. I like Anna but I don’t like the way he blames her for everything. I call bs on his diagnosis too.
I am also glad the mom and daughter came in last so they didn’t have to get penalized 4x for using a taxi. I’m glad their relationship is doing better and they will have these memories to look back on.
If Carson and Jack didn’t make it so obvious the other two teams nights still be there lol!
And Mark was amazing at dancing challenge. Actually they all were even Jack, who was so tired by the end. It’s amazing they made it so far with an hour behind the last team.
My fav teams are Carson and Jack, Mark and his bf, followed by Josiah and Alyssa. Han and Holden need to work on communication but I don’t mind them. I just don’t want Jonathan to win.

Jonathon is not my favorite by any means, but anyone willing to take an honest look at their behavior, recognize it is not something they are proud of, that they are the problem and get the help to try figure it out, gets some grace from me. I know too many diagnosed as adults with ADHD and/or on the autism spectrum to doubt him. Have to admit I was a little disappointed in how many teams never turned over the cypher to figure it out. I died inside when Erika read the clue as "take taxis", kept wondering how many penalties they were racking up and was a bit relieved that they were last anyway. It would have been brutal to have the other teams come in to the finish line after them while they had to sit out a penalty (or maybe forced to run between the destinations again via bus/metro/foot?). I loved Carson & Jack running into the wood stack guy on the bus! These last two legs have been great tourism ads for Bulgaria.

These last two legs have been great tourism ads for Bulgaria Seriously! It would be interesting to somehow figure out all the countries they visit and see how/if tourism goes up soon after the episodes are broadcast. They have visited several countries that we've been to in the past and it's fun to see familiar sights!

I had to stay out of this thread because I was 2 weeks behind. I was glad the mother/daughter team was last, only so they wouldn't get penalized. They wouldn't have been disqualified. Instead, they would have gotten a 30 min per taxi penalty and they said in an interview after they took 4 taxis = 2 hour penalty. So that would have sucked either way. Jonathan surprised me and my husband this week when he actually helped a team with the clues for a bit (at the decoding thing) We thought for sure he was gonna be like LATER! Not sure who I liked best... probably Alyssa & Josiah.

He did but I still don't think that is *that* jerk-ish. He could have just left. If I helped a team and stalled my own for a few, I'd hope they would help me later as well. Don't get me wrong: I still can't stand the guy. lol

not surprised at who came in last.. though I liked that team. and the team that did the mandolin.. they seemed to get their act together a bit better

I thought the italy challenges were fun and not so impossible. I agree. I thought this was one location where the run around and find items on a list wasn't so difficult. That's usually a challenge I swear I would never choose to do if I could avoid it because it often involves riding through crammed streets in a tuk-tuk, which can slow you down, or searching an enormous market with endless stalls, or you have to fetch the items and then arrange them somewhere just so, or deliver things to 3 different homes, etc., so this seemed much easier.

No one read the pit stop clue out loud ~ at least that I remember. So we never heard Phil say *The last team MAY be eliminated*. Holden and Han really lucked out. I felt bad for Jack for having to make so many pizzas.
The previews looked interesting ~ was that jousting?? And it looks like Jonathan is losing his cool again.

Ugh. Jonathan. That's my number one response to last night's leg. Blaming Ana that they weren't first at the cathedral after he got his a$$ knocked off the boat. I absolutely cannot stand him. I mean there's editing, and there's a guy staring into the camera literally saying that their current placement is all his wife's fault due to the cheese task, while ignoring his own performance at the previous task. Beyond that, I think there were a few key errors this episode. Mark & Brett---they were right there, with someone who knew what directions they needed and had just given them to Josiah & Alyssa, which meant the crew already took the time to get clearances from the people, and then they decide "Nah, who needs directions? We'll just hope that this other team doesn't get lost AND that we don't lose them." And Alyssa & Josiah--I think it was dumb luck that they didn't wind up eliminated despite having the express pass. Josiah was bugging me because he kept asking if she wanted to use it and she kept saying "yes", then he'd ask her to wait, another team would finish, and he'd ask again. Dude---she already answered that question several times. Either go with her answer, or stop asking. It really irritates me when people do that kind of thing, can you tell?

All I can say is Ana needs to file for divorce ASAP!!!! He is awful to her and if he behaves that way with all watching I can’t imagine how he is in private.
