you know-i always feel a bit sad reading all these MISTI posts-it has turned into an epic when a little compromise on customer service/different attitude could have meant lots of "free" word of mouth advertising for the owner on what is,after all, basically a good idea. Such a shame. Totally agree!

As far as I am concerned (and even though it can be made easily), she had the stamping world at her feet and threw it away.

FYI for anyone considering a purchase these are now "Made in China" - Sandy Allnock pointed it out as part of her product highlight.

I won't buy from her because of her. As for "Made in China", you may want to look at all your plastic tools. It may be an eye opener. Foreign trade is a necessary fact of world economy.

I noticed a couple of days before on someones "unboxing" video that it was Made in China now. I'm not sure how you move production to China and RAISE the price $10 more $60 now ... oh wait, it comes with 2 magnets and a few sheets of grid paper though, so totally worth it?!? Ha!

So much agreement. BUT - if it's now being made in China, I suspect it won't be long before we're able to find knockoff versions of it on Ebay (just based on some cosmetic-type tools that were available in the states for around $10 and now can be e-bayed from China and Korea for $1) Now, I won't buy one of those knockoffs - but I won't buy the original either. Made my own, and it works great, and it cost me less than $5 an a couple of hours of time.

Let me start by saying that I NEVER post to boards, I am by definition a lurker, who just loves card making, learning about new tools and techniquies, and reading other people's advice. However, when trying to decide whether or not to purchase the MISTI or not, I came across this board and the splitcoast stampers board, and have been horrified by the way people have been treated over their honest opinions and reviews and their own DIYS of the product. Even Lindsay the frugal crafter, whom I adore, had such rude comments of her diy version, and that is the purpose of her blog/youtube; to give people more affordable hacks/diys. I noticed most of the controversy had to do with the fact that this product has the phrase "patent pending" listed in its description, so I decided to look up what that actually meant. " Some persons mark articles sold with the terms "Patent Applied For" or "Patent Pending". These phrases have no legal effect, but only give information that an application for patent has been filed in the Patent and Trademark Office. The protection afforded by a patent does not start until the actual grant of the patent. False use of these phrases or their equivalent is prohibited" I also scoured the USPTOs website and also Google patent search for a patent application or patent for the tool going back to 2011 to be safe, and could find nothing, which led me to believe that a provisional application has been filed for the tool, or else the term "patent pending" could not be used on the product without heavy fines, as it is illegal. However, you cannot search for a provisional application as it is not public. However, a provisional application has no legal standing either. I suggest looking it up as there is too much info to link. Before anyone jumps on the bandwagon of yelling at me let me first start by saying that no, I am not a patent attorney or any sort of attorney. However, a quick Google search of patents, patent attorneys, and the USPTOS website will all tell you the same information.

linds123 - you don't have to worry about anyone yelling at you about it here; over at Splitcoast they're more protective of the owner (probably because she's paying to be a member company over there).
Truth of the matter is, the trick with using a dvd case was out there way before the MISTI ever came along. I think it was See-D's stamps that came in that type of case and they had instructions for using their cases as a stamp press. There was also a company in England that made something very similar, but it was never available in the states and I don't think it's manufactured anymore; and when the WRMK Letterpress kit came out, there were people who showed how to use it for stamping, again before the MISTI was around.
I actually suspect that the lawyer that the owner hired was so willing to file the patent and send out the cease and desist letters because of the money they could make from legal fees, not so much because the patent is certain to be granted.

Admittedly clouded by personal experience- but in a nutshell Lydia runs the Splitcoast mafia. She perpetuated a fake drama with Iliana to ingratiate herself with Jennifer McGuire and her best buddies (and now personally benefits by attending their retreats to which she wasn't invited previously), when it was asked if Jennifer McGuire and Co had paid for their MISTIs they are endorsing. It is against Federal Regulations for them not to disclose that when they are pushing the products.

I remember a big selling point was that it was made in the US. So that alone probably prompted a few sales. As for the price, I don't like that she's raised the price and added stuff. Maybe someone doesn't want that extra stuff. There were a few grandmas on facebook and I think on scs that didn't want those types of magnets at all, because of risks to little kids. But now you have no choice but to pay for something you may not want. Same with the grid paper (not that it's unsafe but some would rather use none or print their own).

Seems like a complete money grab now. No individual items. No made in the USA FWIW this tutorial by Lindsay The Frugal Crafter was posted a couple of days ago using a homemade one from Hallmark Scrapbook. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jLNq-n96QQ and links to supplies to DIY from known materials. I'm tempted by the stickiness of the Little B positioner.

I can't believe how long it's been since I have logged in. It is a big gaming year and consuming everything for me. I am glad it's slowing down. I miss my art gossip. Kirsten- I made the positioner from the HallMark Scrapbook tutorial. I absolutely adore mine. It works great. I am really happy with it. I have a lot of House Mouse stamps. If you ever worked with a House Mouse stamp you know how tricky those can be to get a good clean image since they are so detailed. The stamp press I made from the Hallmark tutorial I get perfect House Mouse images every time. I hope that helps with as an example. I did try the two color layer stamping technique. I don't remember the exact term. It worked really great too. The size of the positioner is a bit limiting for larger stamps. I am ok with that because I have my big Fiskar's Stamp Press for large stamps.

I bought one a year ago and lately I noticed that the cracking has started to occur. But I use it all the time, so I ordered another one. I paid $50 for one last year, ordering the magnets separately and the cleaner. With shipping and handling and it was over $70 for everything. I went ahead and ordered another one because I don't see how I could don't go without it, the Misti was $50 and came with the two magnets. shipping was 995 so I still paid about $60, which would have been the cost last year if I didn't order the extra stuff. Last time I order I had to wait weeks for my Misty to come. This time she was here in three days. Btw... The old one still works and I am still using it, the other one is put away until I absolutely need it

I use the WRMK Letterpress platform and it works amazing... Really sturdy, you can get it a bunch of places (so sales, points, coupons, etc can be applied), and the bonus that it can also do letterpress (so two tools in one)... I did a video showing how it works, along with how I added a magnetic base and moveable stops for positioning your paper exactly where you want it... The reasons I like it are the cost, quality, the two-in-oneness of it, how durable and stable it is, and how accurate it is... If you're international, it's great because you can get it locally and save on shipping/duties... Shameless link to my video: youtu.be/1PaDCm7qHUM

Good heavens, how did I miss this epic post! I knew she'd been all over the internet threatening people but didn't know it was here! I saw this post when it first started when someone was looking for graph paper but didn't understand why graph paper was needed. Still don't. I saw it at SSS but wasn't impressed, thought the plastic hinges might break easy and it looks like the bottom is NOT flat, it is recessed which would not allow me to stamp some things in there. I also like the hinge better at the top, not the side which is how it seems to be used most but I could be mistaken. I'm not about to waste over $100 on something that simple that I can see things I don't like right off the bat. A friend made her own with two acrylic album covers with tabs and her WRMK mini magnetic mat and I loved hers. I got to thinking that I have three 8x10 and one 18x24 Optix Acrylic sheets that I used to make acrylic album covers (and the knife that cuts them). And, I already had the same WRMK mini tool kit that had the mini magnetic mat & magnet ruler that she had. I didn't want to go the glue route in case I did something wrong so I used short machine screws with nuts to attach my 2 small metal hinges. I wound up making two, one out of a cut up 8x10 and the other out of a 24 x 5 inch quilting ruler I got for $1 at the thrift shop! One thing, I use the grid on the mat to put the card/cardstock in the right position but why is there a grid needed on top? I just decide where I'm lining up the cards, put the stamp on the card, then lower the top to get the stamp stuck to the top. It works great for me and can't figure out why you need the other stuff. I like using the magnet ruler better than small magnets. I already have something similar in a box in my storage shed but never got around to looking for it. It is a tool to make contact sheets for negatives in a darkroom. I know I could make it work but honestly, it was faster to make one rather than look for that one! I don't think a stamp press is really a new idea and don't understand all the hate from someone who is supposed to be a Christian.

I want a MISTI, or something like it. But for now, I'm holding tight against buying it. For one, the price is way too high for a plastic box. For another, I cringed at the way the MISTI owner responded to people who make their own stamping tool. It was not only childish and unprofessional, it was an embarrassing example for someone who publicly touts herself as Christian. Still, I have to give the woman kudos for coming up with the idea. Its' spreading like wildfire. However, contracting the work to China in order to keep up with production demands may not have been the best move for the MISTI owner. Already her product has been shanghaied. They even used the same colors, measurements and design. Only the stamping has been changed. It's called the Stampoholic. I'll admit that there is a part of me that is mad that this kind of blatant ripoff can and does happen so easily to hard working, legitimate businesses. But there is also a part that believes this ripoff was orchestrated by a higher power, a power trying to teach the MISTI owner a behavior lesson. She threatened and bullied so many people who were trying to craft their own stamping tool for personal use and now she has little to no recourse over the people who have blatantly copied and advertised a product look-alike. It is so similar that I would guess they have the same manufacturer. And, at the equivalent of about $38 USD, it's a really good deal -- provided you live in India where it is sold and shipped. diecutsandmore.com/product/stampoholic/And they just posted a video of it, saying it is the Most Ultimate Stamping Tool (not a very creative way of stealing the Most Incredible Stamping Tool Invented slogan) www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXHIJHUmPr4

The grid on the top was actually helpful when I was stamping a sentiment onto the front of cards. It was easier to make sure it was straight. I like my MISTI and it was really handy for christmas cards but I sure wouldn't buy it again.

But honestly, I knew as soon as it was outsourced to China that there would be knockoffs especially for an individual business owner without any international lawyer clout and only a US patent pending which means anyone outside of the US can do what they want. Had I not been banned from SCS for asking who is promoting product they got for free I probably would have pointed all that out. Oh well. Some people don't understand that criticism can be constructive and help them in the long run.

I knew the same thing was going to happen. Send it to China and watch the knock-offs begin.
SCS- You can post it but the mods are now amending posts. They are actually changing what you write. One of my friends noticed when she said something a bit cheeky. She thought first it was a glitch. Two weeks later she said something cheeky. Same thing happened. She asked me to try because she said I could get more creative. I thought I was the nice girl over there, lol. I said something a bit controversial. Next day my post was amended. SCS wants you to post but in their way. I am not posting there any more. I have a serious issue about amending a post. I owned groups. I would never do that to one of my members.

SCS actually went in and modified your post without notifying you or discussing it with you first? I have never heard of that happening.
And I have not heard of people who got free product from mfgers not disclose that when ever they discuss that product on a forum.

Yes, they did. No, they did not discuss it with me first. I am not upset about it or anything. It's SCS's boards, their rules & their choices in the way they want to run the board. I respect that. Like I wrote earlier a friend wanted me to see if it was a glitch or if if the posts were really being changed. Two of her posts were modified. Then mine got modified for being rude. I was rude & I admit it. That day I posted I was not in a good place. I am still in mourning. Yes, I do feel bad for not being nice. I am not like that in my real life. I always think of other people's feelings. Maybe, they did not discuss with me first because the mods know I am not like that usually. I do remember that I wrote something about a product this Summer and it was not negative or anything but that post got modified too that made the product look even better. I thought that was so strange but I chalked it up to my migraine I had that night. I am really not mad about it. It's not something I would do as a forum owner or moderator. I don't want to post over there any more because I don't want my public posts being modified. I already say goofy things enough on my own. I don't need any help. In the last year I have seen changes over at that site. I remember when SCS first started as a Stampin Up site. Then it was opened to all stampers. In the last few months it became more about the MISTI. Maybe, that is the way SCS is going. They want to be a more MISTI board. They would like members who are only MISTI users. I think the direction they are going in is to become a board for a specific product. Big forums are failing because we all have gone to social media.
