Our first cat was Tugger named after the Rum Tum Tugger from the musical Cat. He was the one who Did the Elvis impersonation and sings into his tail. It really suited him.
Our current cat was found up a tree at the local mall by my nephew. Said nephew wanted to call him Lance (short for Lancelot) but I vetoed that and said if nephew wasn't going to pay the vet bills or clean the litter he didn't get naming rights! We brainstormed for a few days and then our 14 year old suggested Oliver Twist because he was an orphan. It stuck and we call him all variations of that but mosty Ollie.

not me, but a co-worker (who is in a bowling league, along with her husband) just got a kitten that her husband found in the dumpster behind the bowling alley (!!! can you believe it? someone put it in a bowling ball box and tossed it in...)
Anyway, he is now healthy and happy at her house, and is named Striker-- lol!

I let my daughters name our dog. They were 8 and 9 at the time. His name is Kiwi. Now that they are 16 and 18, they are like, how could you let us name the dog.

The most recent addition is my DD's beta fish. She hadn't really named it yet and was just calling him fishy. She was out for evening and I texted her to find out when and how much to feed "fishy". Auto-correct changed it to "sushi" and his name was born. That's one of the best auto-corrects ever, right?!

My 15 year old was 5 at the time. We got the puppy in a strange way. I had been in the local party store (mom and pop store) buying a soda and ahhed and ohhed over their brand new puppy. Later that day dh and son were in- not knowing I'd been in yet and the owner announced she really hadnt thought the puppy purchase out and told dh I'd been in earlier and was "in love". So dh and son brought the puppy home to me. Lol! I am not a dog person, was only being polite but dh was so shocked that I "fell in love" he gladly took the dog for me. He is a Lhaso Apso and 10 years later he still sticks to me like glue. Anyway, son was so excited he called grandpa right away and before the end of the conversation he and grandpa had him named Buster. I have no idea why... But that's what happens when you let a 5 year old and an old man name your dog

4 cats. Stanley, Huckleberry, Chesney and Sherlock.
Stanley because it was FIL's cat originally and he came with that name. His other cat was called Livingstone, but he is long gone. Huckleberry because I liked it.
Sherlock because I am in love with Benedict Cumberbatch, and coincidentally, the person who asked us to take him had the surname Holmes!
Chesney, (who seems to have moved in permanently, although he isn't really ours,) because he is ginger and there is a character in Coronation Street called Chesney, who is ginger.
The hens are Violet, Cora, Edith, Sybill, Mary, Mrs Hughes and Mrs Patmore.

Whipping Cream and Maple Syrup: my daughter attended a summer camp at a "farm" in the city. The mama bunny was Waffles. She had 5 babies. The kids got to name them. The white & black one was blackberry. The three orange ones were caramel, cinnamon, and maple syrup, the white one whipping cream. At the end of summer the "farm" was just going to turn them lose. They never would have survived. I wanted maple, agreed to take maple, but when we went to pick her up, whipping cream was the only other one left. We took both.

That's so cute! We're science geeks, so our animals are named after constellations and an astronomer: Perseus (Percy), Casseiopia (Cassie), and Sophia Brahe (Sophie). We have a Perseus too (we call him Percy); previously we had a Pete (after Pete Sampras, DH is a tennis fan); and Sammy Cat named after a character in the Xanth series.

We got our last dog when the kids were little. He ended up as Jasper because I was not naming him after a Ninja Turtle, which is what the boys wanted. I don't remember how I came up with Jasper.

My step-daughter named my old Doxie Walter. Have no idea where she got that. The Jack Russell we got from her when he was 2 and he was named The Guy - we just call him guy. My rescue puppy we got was named Noodle but I didn't like that and since I'm a quilter we call her Needle. We also adopted a stray cat - she was living in our carport and to get her to trust us we would call "here kitty kitty", until she warmed up to us. WE got her fixed and she now lives in our garage with toys, a bed and the freedom to run around our property. We still call her Kitty Kitty because that's what she knows. Years ago we had a dog named Kat (her real name was Katerina Whippentale, Duchess of ?? (the name of our street). At the same time we had a cat named D.O.G.

We just find names we like. Nothing spectacular. But my dad, a retired fighter pilot, has always named our family dogs after jet maneuvers.

We have all rescue animals so they already had names. We just kept them. Our two cats are Rudy and Ruby (ruby is orange and I suspect that's why she was named that). And our pitbull is named Amelia. We tend to call her Meli.

Our current dog is Deego. He's a Cairn Terrier and we initially named him Fergus because it just seemed nice. But DS, who was about 2 when we got the dog, kept saying, "Where'd he go?" But it sounded like "Where Deego?" and it just kind of stuck.

I had sister cats Bella and Ava. I really liked the name Ava but already was done with having my own kids. Not sure where I came up with Bella. Ava is now gone. Our younger kitty is an orange tabby. We searched Disney cat names and then found the Milo and Otis movie, so we called him Milo. When we move out of town and get a dog I don't care what kind we get, just going to name it Jasper. After Jasper National Park one of our favourite places.

Spike Allen got his first name because he was so tiny(yorkie/Chihuahua mix) when we got him that he didn't look anything a Spike! His middle name is also my husband's middle name!
Layla Ali(teacup yorkie), I always wanted a yorkie named Layla and I am a big fan of both Laila and Muhammed Ali.
Bayleigh Girl(shi Tzu), came with the name Bayleigh and my husband has always called her his sweet little Bayleigh Girl.
Toco Bell, came with his first name and well, you can see where Bell came in!

But that's what happens when you let a 5 year old and an old man name your dog I answered this the first time way back when it was posted (above) but we have since gotten a puppy. His name is 400. Dh told 16 DS if he hit 400 in School ball we would get him a puppy. DS said he would name it 400. He hit 575 and we bought the puppy, as a surprise. He did actually name him 400. Here is a pic of him at just after he asked his grandma what "her" new puppy's name was and she replied "400" and he suddenly realized this was HIS puppy. Attachments:

Our doggy is long wanted rescue. We actually got him on the date he was scheduled to be put down 16 months ago. He had been there so long it took a few months to get him settled, he was so nervous, depressed and then sick when we collected him and brought him home. As soon as we came home we brought him into the house and he comes in and claims the end of the sofa that Sheldon on the Big Bang Theory calls his spot. So after explaining to the boys in our family that we couldn't name him Samuel L MoFo Jackson and call him Sam because that is their 1st cousin's fiancee name and we don't know her and whether she would get all offended etc. we decided to name him Sheldon. He is often called Shelly Dear or Shelly Belly Bing Bongs or Shelly Bells. And apparently he is smarter than we are. Have tried to teach him to ring the bell to go out. Nope. Have given him peanut butter as an enticement for a bath and now he won't come near me with the peanut butter, so trying to untrain that one!
