I mentioned on the phobias thread that I hated to have my food dished up on roofing tiles or chunks of wood. This Facebook site is with me all the way and is hilarious, both in terms of the comments and the ridiculous methods of serving food. ~WE WANT PLATES!~

Ha! Ha! If you scroll down you come to a pic of fried fish and they ask, "Why are the peas in a bucket"? Lol!

I've seen a couple of mentions about this trend in the UK press lately. It's getting ridiculous isn't it!! Thanks for that link

Some of those are a bit over the top.
My complaint is much simpler - put my coffee in a f'ng **CUP**!
You know those ceramic things with handles big enough to put your finger through so that you can lift it to your mouth without burning your hands? Cups are for hot liquids, glasses are for cold liquids, it really isn't that difficult. The trend here in cafes is to serve coffee in glasses and it drives me crazy. I'm forever saying "and I'd like that in a cup please" and then they look at me as if I'm being the difficult one, as if putting hot coffee into glasses isn't pretentious twattery in the first place.

Thanks for the laugh and the new WTH face I'm sporting after looking at those photos. How, just how can some of those surfaces be cleaned for the next user? So wrong.

Thanks for the laugh. I don't mind a board depending on what the food is but some of those are just so pretentious and wanky. How you would eat off some of them is mind boggling.

That started my day off with a smile! Some of those just look like a revolting mess on their serving surfaces, would definitely put me off eating the food!!

Funny fb page! No way in hell would I eat off some of that stuff! There is a restaurant here in MN that serves a BBQ meal in a mason jar. My friend ordered it and it was the most disgusting thing! Think clear glass jar with layers of mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, shredded pork, macaroni & cheese and baked beans. ISH!

That's pretty funny. We haven't eaten at a Famous Dave's (BBQ) in a long time, but they used to serve the family style meals at the restaurant in the upturned lid of a metal garbage can that was perched on a tall three legged wooden holder thing in the middle of the table. The tables were/are so small that your plate would end up being hidden halfway underneath the lid the food was served on, and they were small plates too.
So in addition to wanting my food on a plate (which they do give you, albeit small ones), I would also like to sit at a table large enough for four adults to comfortably sit around! I guess that makes me really picky! If I'm going out to eat at a restaurant, it might be nice to be able to actually SEE the other people across the table that are there with me.

I was horrified at the one where the dessert is just put straight onto the table (well, onto a plastic cover ). SMH.

There is a restaurant we visit with the most amazing fresh bread they bring out before your meal. EVERY time I ask for a bread plate. What the heck am I supposed to do with the mini-French bread loaf once I take it out of the bread basket? Give me a plate!

In addition to curious food presentations, the comments contain an excellent education on new and creative ways to swear. I am intrigued.

Well that got me laughing, especially the gravy in the beer can. Thank you for another Fb page to follow!
A new place opened up in my town, and we got served steak on a chopping board with chips in a baked-bean can. We thought it was hilarious. And pretentious. And expensive. I don't think we've been back since, but not because the food wasn't excellent.

Oh my gosh!
Some of those look so nasty.
Why on earth would you be so silly? And what a pain in the ass for whatever waiter has to bring that out to you.

You know, I don't mind some item in a lined basket, fish n chips or something. But some of those went too far, way too far. I woukdnt want to isy for the pile of slop on the table they terming as dessert ( are there left over peas in that dessert? Gag ) it's like what the hell are they thinking. crazy4scraps We have a place here where they seat 4 people at a table that I think was meant for 2 I kid you not once 4 dinner plates are on the table they touch. DH had a beer sampler ( 6 small beers ) and when the waiter brought dinner he asked DH to lift up the beer so he could put the plates down. The waiter put the plates down and walked away leaving DH holding his 6 beers balanced on a board with no where to put them. I was like WTF so i had to move his plate half off the table and put the beer around the plate and left the board leaning on the wall, which we got reprimanded for. We refuse to go there if we can't sit outside no matter how good the food is. I feel like writing on the check tip: buy some f'in tables to seat 4 people. But I don't because it's not the waiters fault the owner is an idiot. We haven't been back there in years simply because We don't want to pay that much to be uncomfortable.

I haven't had chips served in a baked bean can yet but serving chips in some sort of container seems to be current 'food fashion' all around the UK now.....as is being offered plain or spicy chips and thick or thin chips. So far we've just been served them in white pottery bowls or small baskets - but I'm really looking forward to getting a more unusual container just for the laughs and head shaking it will produce! Just as long as long as they don't serve my steak on a slate!!
