Every once in a while something happens in the neighborhood that leaves me really, really curious...like Mrs. Kravitz on steroids curious. I live in the world's quietest neighborhood ever. The most exciting things that ever happen is when someone lets their grass get a touch long. But I am sitting here, stewing in my own unhealthy curiosity, wondering what in the world is going on across the street that requires THREE police cars and a fire truck. All of which showed up without sirens, so I hardly even noticed that they were even there and only noticed when I closed one of the front window's blinds. Really. What on earth could it be?? Nosy Nancy thinks she needs to know.

Whenever we have something happen in our neighborhood, like someone needs an ambulance, neighbor up the street smacks his wife and she calls police, etc. our town sends police, fire, rescue. We always say it must be a slow night in Whoville for so many police etc come.

Me too!! And now the fire truck is gone and another police car just showed up. Funny thing is that the police alternate between sitting in their cars and getting out and talking to each other and every so often they walk into the house. I have turned into Mrs. Kravitz for real. I think there is a nose print on the window I am looking so hard.

I vote for going over there and asking about it.
A couple of years ago I had a neighbor who lived across the street from me who regularly had an ambulance come, complete with lights. His wife was in declining health and sometimes he'd call an ambulance to come take her to the hospital.

Well, I'm really curious now too! And I would so be sitting there watching, or even going outside to see what's happening.

Well, now we all have to know!
BTW, my entire family calls my neighbors 2 doors down 'Kravitz'. I'm not even sure we ever explained it to the kids - they simply know who we're talking about, lol. He's actually nosier than her. The good news is, if we ever want to know what's going on, they always have the 411!

Oh heck that IS cause for concern. I live in a quiet neighbourhood, too, but one of us would go over and investigate. It would be out of character for us NOT to go and the same for our neighbours.
You need to go check it out and report back! ASAP!

We had a drug dealer next door (rental) for a year. They told the owner that they were taking care of her very sick grandfather and all of the extra cars were doctors. You can imagine the ridiculousness of this when you would see young men with sagging pants bringing in ladies wearing almost nothing to crawl under the garage door that was left 2 feet open. No matter how many calls to the owner (in another state) asking him to deal with it didn't help. Four different neighbors called. They also didn't have a pit bull. One night when my husband and I were at open house the swat team came by and closed off the neighborhood, flash banged (?) the back yard and brought in the battering ram to take down the front door. My boys were thrilled (7th and 9th graders) that an episode of cops was playing out in the front yard. After the initial raid, my retired Navy officer neighbor across the street called and asked the boys if they would feel better at his house. No! They could see much better from ours. The next dude grew marijuana and trashed the house. After that the owner asked my neighbor to interview possible renters and keep him updated on the renters. Hee hee. The new neighbors are really nice and have improved the place 200%.

My husband and I sit out on the driveway every single night and watch the neighborhood. We try not to look like stalkers, but have always done it since our boys were little. Usually it is very dull other than an ambulance here or there.

I'd be curious too and taking the dog for a very slow walk. This happened a few times with our across the street neighbor. His wife had Sundowner's and went through a period were she would call 911 very agitated around dinner time, so police and fire/paramedics would both respond. Her husband worked evenings and so there was a whole process they had to go through with the caretaker and getting in touch with the husband, etc.

It's so gosh darn late, and my neighborhood is asleep by 10. I think I am the only one up and watching. I don't think anyone passed, by now they would have had the medical people around. I am a little unclear as to who actually is living there these days-the house was owned by an older woman who was moved out and into a nursing home a couple of years ago. Her grandson lived there for a while, then a granddaughter. I think the granddaughter is still there, but I haven't seen her recently. It is all so curious. Now one of the policemen has a bunch of stuff on the back of his car staring at it under the light of a flashlight, but I can't tell what it is. For all I know, he is making a cup of espresso. Oh, and no dog to walk. Only a couple of lazy cats, who are also curious about what is going on. They like to sit in the windows and watch the neighborhood too.

I vote for just going over and asking the policeman. Act very concerned, offer to help out if necessary, and maybe they won't know you're just being nosy.
I walked out of my house one morning to a full on SWAT team about to converge on a home up the street. There were rumors that one of the teenagers who lived there was a drug dealer. In that case, I got the heck out of there In case bullets started to fly.

Marking my spot. I've gotta know what gruesome crime has occurred at your neighbor's! Keep those updates coming. What are they doing now?

When that scenario happened at our neighbor's house, it was because the husband had died. A firetruck was there for about an hour, but cops were there for about 5 hours. An ambulance came and stayed maybe an hour or two. I hope the reason cops and a firetruck aren't at your neighbor's for the same reason. Maybe it's just a gas leak or something like that.

This is exactly why police scanner radios were invented... Or should I say The last time we had that many emergency vehicles in our neighborhood at once was when one of our retired neighbor's adult son (lives with her) had a psychotic break and had to be taken to the hospital. He seems to be doing a lot better now, thank goodness! Otherwise it's really quiet here too. At our old house there was always something going on at the rental house across the street. The cops were always getting called to that house and they told the next door neighbors on that side of the street to start writing down the license plate numbers for the multiple cars that were constantly showing up for 10-15 minutes at a time over there.

Domestic violence calls are some of the most dangerous for peace officers. They typically respond silently to such calls and send multiple units.

I'm still wondering what happened down the street from us a few weeks ago. There was a rescue truck of some sort with lights flashing and a helicopter that flew over our house and landed nearby.

When that happened to our neighbors it was to arrest the neighbors adult son for trying to sell pot. Yeah, my neighbors were about three years ahead of themselves. Had they waited pot would have been legal. The previous neighbors were selling harder stuff though. Funny, the man arrested was a really nice neighbor even though we all had our suspicions.
