I am so glad I left there months ago now, have not looked back to be honest. I am with Citrus Twist and love the kits there (Have not used past 3 due to travel but love the kits and look forward to playing with them) Same for me, including Citrus Twist

So I totally took the bait and subbed with the $5 offer 2 weeks ago. I have to purchase 6 months worth of kits to fulfill my obligation. I bought month #1 for $5 shipped. Now my remaining 5 months will cost me $37.99 shipped. So my 6 kits will have cost me about $195 shipped. I'm okay with that. I really thought long and hard before hitting that buy button and I assumed it would cost me that much. I would not be happy if I was a multiple kit subber or was being forced into a 12 month sub. I knew going in that SC is shady. That Galileo kit sucked me in. I am not planning on purchasing add-ons.

Marianne, are you in the U.S. ? if so you will be paying $34.99 per month which includes (economy) shipping through December (by which time you would have fulfilled your sub obligation and could quit without penalty. They are moving everyone already subbed to the lowest new sub rate (12 month) as of July 1st so we can get a feel of the costs. If you are in the U.S. you can add as much as you want to your order during bundling 1-5th and not pay any additional shipping. They say "free shipping" but shipping is really tacked on to each main kit purchase now. The downside seems to be they move everyone to economy shipping, and if you want it faster you have to pay an upgrade. Galileo IS lovely, isn't it? I have completed 3, almost 4 layouts with it already. My thoughts on this as a subscriber...I get it SC you were losing money on shipping and you want to lock people into contracts to protect yourself. I wish they would have said this upfront. They need to raise prices because everything has gone up...Just raise the price of the subs dammit. Be open about it. Will everyone like it? No, but they won't be able to fault you for being untruthful. I hate it when companies hide things in "shipping costs" ... just raise the price of the sub, give 60 days notice to cancel without penalty, and offer multiple shipping levels. Simple. Were people this incensed at the Ali Edwards Story kit subscription or A Beautiful Mess kits? They have the same sub and cancellation policies. They started with them though, so maybe not. I am asking because I don't actually know. I am feel a bit sad because I have tried a lot of kits over the years and SC is just the right fit for me. I have made at LEAST 5 layouts with every kit I have purchased BEFORE the next one arrives. And i like them. That is unheard of for me. It makes me sad that SC don't seem to have the best business sense when it comes to dealing with customers, and people feel so betrayed. I LOVE my kits and feel judged, at times, on other sites for being an SC subscriber. Like people think I am a nitwit for putting up with them. That I should just go elsewhere...I don't want to go elsewhere, I LOVE the kit I get. I could get more prouct somewhere else but it wouldn't be things I LOVE so they wouldn't get used, so it would be a waste, sigh. i am sticking around for awhile, probably at least until December so I can see how things pan out.

Very well said:) I was a susbcriber for a long time and stopped due to finances and tons of unused kits because I have been in school. I loved my kits and only had 1 issue which was addressed during my various subs I switched off from over the years. I really missed my kits when I first had to cancel but it seems there is now less product and more SC stuff than a nice mix of brands, and I haven't loved the designs / kits like I used to. Good thing I have a ton of kits and product from them that I do love. I haven't subbed for over a year. I wouldn't be happy at this is unfolding. I agree with you, just be honest. They should present the facts and what the changes will be and let people decide for themselves whether they can afford to or want to continue subbing. I also think there should be some grandfathering of existing subs and ample time to make a decision about renewing. I would never be able to consent to a 50% sub cancellation fee. (My finances and issue with my ex haven't been stable enough for that, but that's part of why I quit.) I do normally love the SC creativity and innovation, but I don't understand this chaos and a new website etc, and taking over BPC and AE and making changes to those sites, then saying it's a better deal for customers when it isn't for many... Too much going on and none of it being handled well unfortunately.

I sub with Ali & I have from the get go. I get both kits. My stamp order was for 12 months, and my PL kit is monthly. I knew going in what I was agreeing to - which is why I was willing to pay for for no commitment for the PL kit. I knew I would use the stamps so a year commitment wasn't an issue. I knew that I needed to do a shorter term for the PL to see if I would use it. My stamp commitment has a few more months left - I will be canceling it after the year is up. My stamps are piling up and I am getting burnt out on the same font. I will be keeping my PL sub - I get so much use out of it.

Complete utter train wreck!!! There is so much conflicting info over there it is crazy! Total bait and switch. I bet they have lost a ton of customers this past year which is why they now have this crazy commitment requirement! I subbed to hip kit club this am, they are a great kit, sadly no exclusives, but great product and lots of it. They also have a great referral program right now and only a 3 month commitment! I dont know if you are on FB but if you are, join the Nicolejones911 group! It is such a fun scrapbook group with tons of people and daily posts/layouts. A lot of the hipkit ladies share pages on there... the pages they make are so cute Im thinking about joining hipkit! I like the group because anyone from anywhere can post about any products, not just hipkit. Love that fb group!

Another thing that I didn't like is now you can't just pick up another single purchase kit. You have to subscribe. I haven't subbed there in a couple of years. However, I would occasionally check out past available kits and buy here and there. Won't bother checking anymore now. There is no way in hell I would extend a subscription if I was forced to take on the commitment again. WTH.

Apparently, a few times a year when the kits go on sale (like they do on Black Friday) they will be available to everyone. I also find it annoying that even as a subber to the scrapbook kit I can't just pick up a card kit, like I can pick up an add on. I did that this month! I got the Galileo card kit because the stamp set was SO precious. Now in the future I wouldn't be able to do that, not easily anyway!

That's really unfortunate.
I don't get it--they must be having lots of leftover stock I guess? There have been so many changes at SC over the past 18-24 months, I can't even remember what they've taken on. Makes me wonder if they grew a little too fast, or took on more than they can handle?
I signed up for the AE kits, and am 2 months away from my 12 month commitment. I will cancel when the time's up, but only because I haven't scrapped much these past several months. I didn't have an issue with the commitment with AE because the price was reasonable monthly vs. SC monthly scrapbook kits.

It is never a struggle to get an add on you want these days. They are around for months even, quite often. There are a few exceptions like stamp sets often sell out right away, and sometimes die sets, but they often reorder those. A few months ago they had a huge last call and marked down all the left over kits and add ons to $10. It was a lot of kits...I think SCmust feels they need to change things up to protect themselves.

That policy is crazy because most of the time I'd grab a PL to go with my sb sub because they would ship together. Now I can't do that. Right now I get the AE story stamps and after this fiasco I subbed to her story kits ( yup I know that she is partnered with SC but it never has felt like she was kwim?) After this summer if I can work through some of my backlog of kits (SC and some I've made myself) I'll find a new kit to sub to like Gossamer Blue .

Thinking about this more...i know people are terrified of the huge surcharge you will incur if you cancel the kit...but what will the secondary market for kits be like now if the only sure way of obtaining one if being a subscriber? I am guessing the secondary market, places like PL shop and swap on FB, will boom even more on SC stuff.

And yet today I get another email for "free shipping" if I start a new subscription. If they know it's changing why are they emailing this out right now trying to bait people in?
ETA: and the old price is listed. If they know the price is changing, why list the old price?

You know, I'm not a fan of SC. Haven't been for years because of the flippant attitude of the CEO. I just can't send money to that type of person. However, deep down inside, I am hoping that they pull themselves out of this mess. I do love the SC community, the fabulous DT and SC's constant pulse on trends. And seriously, our industry is in big trouble. Anyone paying attention should realize that. If SC goes down, then who will it be next? Did anyone predict that Two Peas would fold? I certainly didn't. I was shocked. I knew there was drama, I knew that the CS reps didn't like us when there were issues posted on the message boards. But after 2Peas died, I found out just how much disregard the owners had towards the customers. Sound familiar? If SC survives after this mess, I really, truly hope the CEO learns a lesson. Be a bit more humble. Interact with your customers in a non-condescending way. Give thanks to your "fans" because without them, you wouldn't be where you are. Show some gratitude towards your customers. Honest, true gratitude. With words. Just nice, humble gratuitous words. Won't cost a dime. SC thinks they can drop bombs and then smile and wave like a pageant queen. Or use smoke and mirrors to veil the truth. They have done it over and over in the past. And it seems that they are taking this approach once again. In the words of Dr. Phil, "How's that workin for ya?" Yes. Many people who were *paying attention* (sorry that seems very condescending) DID predict 2Ps would fold because of their awful business practices. Many, many people for a very long time. I agree with you that the scrapbook industry is in a world of hurt. For these business owners they have got to remember this is a business first and a hobby second. Unfortunately, April Foster isn't going to learn her lesson. She's pulled this too many times and gotten away with it. Like was stated previously she has a huge ego. Stand up and let your $$ do the talking just like you would with any other business in any other industry.

Stand up and let your $$ do the talking just like you would with any other business in any other industry. This. At some point, the customers that have stuck with SC, with all of their issues, are going to slowly start to jump ship. That's what happened with 2Peas. I'm no psychic, but I sensed for months 2Peas was going to go under. I, more than once, brought it up on the message boards. I never really expected the owners to address it, but by ignoring it, it became more and more obvious. Jeff had some nasty words for people over there, and a bunch left, and took their money with them. They slowly changed their shipping options, then the sales, then the rewards. Enough people finally had enough and left. Period. And I predict at some point, that will happen with SC. They aren't the only kit club out there. And speaking of that--not everybody wants a kit with only SC products. If I hadn't left prior because of their other issues, I certainly would have been gone by now because I wouldn't want only their products. There are still a lot of companies out there coming out with wonderful products. One day, this is gonna happen with SC. April's a little to full of herself to think everyone is gonna stay loyal. Slowly but surely their enrollment is going to dwindle, and I think this latest move is a sign.

I've never subbed, but have picked up a bunch of left overs for $10 or so... There have been two things that I really wanted and bought at full price, with shipping, etc... Everything else I've been able to find at other places, or find extremely similar items that worked for my projects other places... Always thought about subbing some day, but won't consider SC now... If it's not worth the contract-free price with the exchange, shipping, and duties, then it's just not worth it...

so how many people do you think actually quit? It is impossible to say...only a small percentage of their customers read and respond on the forums. They are obviously the ones we hear from, but they have a huge customer base that just subs and gets their kits. There are people leaving, people staying, people cutting down to one sub etc....it is all over the board. I also don't think the true impact will be felt until after December (depending upon what SC do between now and then) because presently if you are a subscriber as of July 1st they will move you to the 12th month rates (cheapest) without making you resign a contract until the new year. So many people want to try it out or stay until the end of December. Who knows what may happen by then, its ages away...

I guess I'm just aggravated by the actions of SC. Their stupidity seems self sabotaging sometimes.

My husband thinks they are going to have to rethink their multi sub discount, or lack of one. They really should because if: 1) it is a huge amount of subscribers who have multiple subs and quit or cut down their subs SC looses money. OR 2) it is a small percentage of subbers, then it shouldn't cost them much and they can use the PR. Either way they win.

I now only sub to the PL kit - I sub to the scrapbook kit at Hip Kit Club - and I don't plan on subbing to SC after my commitment is up. I just don't want to sub for 12 months and have those cancelation fees and I don't want to pay the month to month price.
One question - are there subs with other subscription sites (outside of scrapbooking) that use this model? It just seems like an odd model so just windering....

Honestly they would be smart to offer a discount for multiple kit subscribers...like free up to a certain amount so that people don't take advantage. Obviously international should be a bit different because it goes farther. But I mean give free shipping up to $25 for domestic and if the customer wants to have faster shipping have that option as well but be able to pick and pay for it. This isn't rocket science. I don't know why they are making it so complicated. It's just scrapbook shopping. It really shouldn't be stressful or difficult to spend money. I'm just shaking my head about the whole thing. And yes I quit my sub. It's sad because the boards don't feel the same over there.

My husband thinks they are going to have to rethink their multi sub discount, or lack of one. But I don't think they want to disclose how much of that is shipping. IMO, they are using this shipping is 'included' nonsense to cover their butts on rising product cost and we are really getting 'free shipping' (at least for domestic). If they say how much is for shipping specifically they would have to disclose an amount which they don't want to do. They just hope everyone continues to pay for.

Or will SC beg people to come back over private convos like last time.

Ok, I moved last week and missed pretty much everything. What is troubling to me is that reading their posts and the SC boards doesn't clarify how things are changing for me. If you have patience, and a better understanding, here is my position: I have subbed to the PL kits since they started (I had a SB sub for a few years before that but dropped it a while ago). I do not have any commitment now other than the ordinary subscriber month to month.
My takeaway is that (1) I will have to pay shipping on my kit every month and will not be able to avoid that by purchasing up to the free shipping threshold; (2) I will continue to be a month to month subscriber, so I would have to pay a 50% cancellation fee, equal to half the cost of one PL kit, and (3) I will no longer get early shipping or anything like that. My questions:
1. Am I wrong about the commitment? Will I be required to commit longer term? 2. Do I still get a subscriber discount on add-ons? 3. If I buy anything in addition to my kits, am I paying separately for shipping on that?
Depending on the answers, I may switch kits. I haven't been thrilled with the PL kits for the past six months or so anyway.
