I am really troubled by the fact that they want us to make a new commitment. I accept that they can do this going forward. It's their business, their right; but it is just plain unfair to do it to those that have already served their original commitment. Am I the one that is being unreasonable?
I keep telling myself that I'm going to cancel; but I think this time I have no choice, the bundled shipping for internationals was a big part of me keeping my sub as well, & now that's gone too, new international shipping charges will be by weight for extras
It is also starting to bug me that everything in their kits is their own stuff now. They used to have a good cross-section of everything that was out there & now I find myself having to check other online shops for new releases.
I would like to have an open & frank discussion about what all you other subbers are planning to do?

I am still at the What the hell stage. Plus they are giving lots of misinformation by their own employees which is unacceptable. I just re subbed to the scrapbook kit with the 5 dollar deal (plus my PL) and now it will cost me more than anticipated. I usually spend enough for free shipping so the kits will cost me 8 dollars more. If I would have known this I would never have subbed.

You are not alone.
I can handle a price increase. But don't shit on me and then tell me you appreciate me. I have subbed *almost* since the very beginning. I have spent enough there not to be treated like crap.
I won't be signing up for a new subscription. Too many other stores to do business with.

If I had three subscriptions and was paying for shipping on each, they better come in three different boxes.
I don't understand why if you've met your commitment, why you have to "prove" yourself and take on a new cancellation policy- obviously those that have been there for months (and years) don't take off all that often. I don't understand how the terms can be changed if that wasn't in the original agreement.
Prices do need to go up a bit to handle cost increases, but yikes 50% of your commitment to cancel!!! Crazy!!!! Better off paying higher one month price.

Complete utter train wreck!!! There is so much conflicting info over there it is crazy! Total bait and switch. I bet they have lost a ton of customers this past year which is why they now have this crazy commitment requirement! I subbed to hip kit club this am, they are a great kit, sadly no exclusives, but great product and lots of it. They also have a great referral program right now and only a 3 month commitment!

I'm not even going to bother trying to figure out this mess. I cancelled my card and scrapbook sub at the beginning of the year and haven't missed them one bit. I haven't purchased a single add on since the beginning of the year because I haven't liked any of them. Today I skimmed the boards, read what April posted on the blog, and started my conversation to cancel my PL sub. I have other subs with other companies that are far better. Bye Studio Calico!

Plus if inventory is killing them shouldn't they change the add ons? I would think that would be more of an issue. I think the 15 dollar cancellation fee would be enough to predict

So what are some other PL options? The reason I did like Studio Calico was for the weight of the card. Gossamer Blue has flimsy cards and Cocoa Daisy isn't really my style.

Hip kit also has a pl kit. I don't know what the card weight is though. Scraptastic had really nice cards when I got them, but that was a year ago.

I have had a PL sub since the beginning and I cancelled my sub. I have not been happy with the last 4-6 months of kits. Plus there is just too much drama with SC. A hobby shouldn't be stressful! lol
I am looking at a couple of options and so far like Cocoa Daisy and Scraptastic.

I just sent in my cancellation email. It's bad enough with the exchange and what I need to spend to get free shipping and now this? My budget can't handle it.

I think this will be the nail in the coffin.
ETA: And I say this because I'm just not sure they can turn this around. If it's true that most of their customers only sub to one kit, they might be able to rebound but they stand to lose the ones who really spend the big bucks.

I am so glad I left there months ago now, have not looked back to be honest. I am with Citrus Twist and love the kits there (Have not used past 3 due to travel but love the kits and look forward to playing with them)

I do like the weight of the cards, but not really sure if it matters once the card is put in the slot. I don't get how they post this change at the end of a business day, they don't have their stories straight, now possible exceptions for some subscribers, 3 days to decide if I want to cancel, 3 shipping charges on 3 kits that will all come in the same box, but not arriving by UPS anymore, and a crazy cancellation agreement when I have been there FOREVER. And I feel like SC expects me to be thankful for this.

That's what I'm looking for. A nice mixture of all new releases, not just their own lines. Some exclusive elements would be nice but not a deal-breaker. TIA

I love that the kits are fresh looking with new items then there is always exclusive veneer or something in there with the rest. I love that there is zero drama and the lady that owns the club is amazing. I also love that as a subber you can buy the add ons first a few days before the public.

And I won't pay the higher price for a month-to-month sub either so that leaves me in limbo. Maybe the attractiveness of the free bundling will be enough to attract new subscribers and they won't miss the few who spent a huge wad every month. If I do stay, I will cancel two of my subs. But that's a huge "if"!

Thanks for the other recommendations everyone. I'm annoyed that I just signed up for a new SB sub with the '1st kit for $5' promotion and yet SC knew that 3 weeks later, they'd be announcing completely revamped pricing! I've finished my PL commitment but really like the kit so am not sure what I'll end up doing.
I will start investigating other options though, so will check out some of the places mentioned.

SC's business model has baffled me for years.
For those subscribers who feel torn about cancelling, check out your local Tuesday Morning. American Crafts sells a crapton of Studio Calico at the TM stores. You won't find a full SC kit but you will finds lots of papers, paper pads, wood veneers, stickers, etc. Check out the TM threads on the GS board and you will see lots of scrappy goodness and plenty of stuff. SC Paper pads are usually $6.99 for 12x12 and $3.99 for 6x6, and the 25-packs of paper are usually priced at $1.99 per pack. Clothespins and wood veneers vary from 99 cents to $1.99. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. TM is hit or miss but you will save big money and have access to recently introduced products. No more staying up until midnight reveal or any of the other silly things I've heard grown women do for the "privilege" of buying from SC.
If you signed up with SC and they changed the terms three weeks later, you might want to contact your credit card company to see if you remain legally bound to the sub if they changed the terms of agreement. You might have more leverage to get out of your SC sub than you realize.

I also subbed with the $5 deal last month. Now I think I have two days to think about cancelling for the original agreed-upon cancellation fee, but I'm not sure because all of the conflicting discussions about 'grandfathering' have been so confusing.
Is this is the nail in the coffin for SC?
As for PL, Cocoa Daisy has the best sub in my opinion. Best weight paper, best variety, best customer service. They change designers each month, so each month has a slightly different style/feel to it. But the bad part about CD is that they've gotten so popular that they cannot keep up with demand. Each month they greatly increase #of kits and each month they sell out before reveal. If they can catch up their inventory they'll be by far the best in this category, in my opinion.

SC's business operations has always been inconsistent. Baffles me how this company stays in business. If they didn't just sabotage themselves with this new debacle, then I'll be shocked. I think in order to do that, they need to make this new policy for new subbers, not their entire customer base that has supported them through thick and thin.
But the drama, that is always very consistent. I couldn't handle that as a subber. So glad I've found a dozen other places to choose from.

The real issue seems to be the way they chose to communicate all of this. I can't understand why you'd title a blog post "New Site Coming Soon" and then sneak in a bunch of stuff about price changes and commitment policies. Those things are unrelated. They knew the SC community would blow up after announcing these changes yet there are very few responses from any SC staffers. If they had been straight about needing to raise prices of kits a few bucks due to increased costs I think people would have understood. They haven't raised prices in awhile and goodness knows everyone else raises prices periodically. I quit my sub back in January because I didn't like the quality of the SB kit and didn't use enough stuff to make it worthwhile. Now I pick up something that I love here and there and spend far less money with them.

I am also very suspicious that they are changing the rewards status and will not guarantee to do so before we have to re-commit
