epeanymous , I'm not a subscriber so may not have all the details correct but from what I've read.... The current month-to-month option is only being offered until December. After that you will need to either subscribe or pay the higher month-to-month fee. My understanding is that the cancellation fee if you decide to subscribe is equal to 1/2 the balance of the subscription.

Ok, I moved last week and missed pretty much everything. What is troubling to me is that reading their posts and the SC boards doesn't clarify how things are changing for me. If you have patience, and a better understanding, here is my position: I have subbed to the PL kits since they started (I had a SB sub for a few years before that but dropped it a while ago). I do not have any commitment now other than the ordinary subscriber month to month. My takeaway is that (1) I will have to pay shipping on my kit every month and will not be able to avoid that by purchasing up to the free shipping threshold; (2) I will continue to be a month to month subscriber, so I would have to pay a 50% cancellation fee, equal to half the cost of one PL kit, and (3) I will no longer get early shipping or anything like that. My questions: 1. Am I wrong about the commitment? Will I be required to commit longer term? 2. Do I still get a subscriber discount on add-ons? 3. If I buy anything in addition to my kits, am I paying separately for shipping on that? Depending on the answers, I may switch kits. I haven't been thrilled with the PL kits for the past six months or so anyway. 1. New cancellation and commitment policy doesn't apply until 1 Jan. All current subbers (whether we still have a current commitment or not) are being switched to the lowest level of the new pricing as from 1 July. This is the price for the 12 month commitment but without the new cancellation policy. So as a domestic customer you'll pay $25.99 per month for PL and the cancellation policy (if any) which applies is the one you joined under. 2. I haven't seen the subscriber discount on add-ons being specifically addressed. There was a comment that add-ons will be in the shop so anyone can buy them (vs kits which you have to have a sub for) but to me it's not clear if the current discounts will continue to apply after 1 July. There are changes planned to rewards status but those are still in the works and won't be announced for a while. 3. New kit prices include a shipping fee. You can still bundle extras with your kit without paying extra shipping on top of that. However there's no such thing as 'free shipping' with kits anymore. If you shop outside of bundling the existing free shipping limit of $79 still applies. In terms of your comment about early shipping, orders will still be processed in current order of international rewards, domestic rewards, international non-rewards, domestic non-rewards so this isn't affected by the change. What may change is the speed of your order once it leaves as shipping options (UPS mail innovations, USPS etc) depend on weight. You can pay extra (don't know how much) to upgrade. You need to select a commitment option before 1 Jan. if you don't do that and don't cancel you'll automatically be switched to the month to month option and the new cancellation policy will apply from that date. The cost of the PL kit will go up slightly from 1 July under this new arrangement so you should have got an email from SC saying that you'll be getting a small refund every month. The amount of the refund depends on whether you're a domestic or international customer. For domestic customers it works out to 51c more so that will be refunded to you each month until Dec. HTH!

If I buy anything in addition to my kits, am I paying separately for shipping on that? Depending on the answers, I may switch kits. I haven't been thrilled with the PL kits for the past six months or so anyway. The new cost of PL includes shipping...and if you are a domestic subscriber you can add anything in the shop to your order during bundling for no additional shipping. You no longer have to reach the $79.00 threshold to get "free shipping" during bundling. any other time during the month you can qualify for free shipping if you spend $70.00 in the shop as a domestic customer. Basically, shipping is built in to the cost of the sub. So to answer question 3 as long as you are a domestic customer, no you pay no additional shipping fees. To answer question 2, if you are a rewards subscriber as of now those perks have not changed, so yes you do. This will hopefully answer question 1...If you are a month to month now you will move to the lowest priced new sub rate (the 12 month sub rate) to trial it, but will NOT be locked in to any contract until the end of the year (when you will be moved to month to month unless you cancel!) OR you choose to resub at the 6 or 12 month rate. Basically, they are giving a 6 month grace period to try the new pricing (at the lowest rate) without having to sign up. If you do sign up you will be under the new contract which has a cancellation policy of 50% of the REST of your sub, so if you cancel with 2 months less you have to pay for 1 full kit. It is to discourage cancellations. Might as well get your kit and resell them. If you are on month to month you can cancel anytime AFTER the 6th of the month through the 25 for NO penalty, but you have to pay a higher rate per month. If you don't like a kit and cancel between the 6th and the 25th you do not pay anything. After the 25th you pay a $15 cancellation.

Thank you, anniefb and impearia. SC should consider hiring one or both of you for communications. Honestly, I was all set to cancel until I read your posts and understood that not much is changing for me immediately and that I could continue to add some items (particularly the 4*6 pad) to my order without incurring still more shipping costs.
I didn't get an email from SC. Despite the fact that I have subbed there for years and have numerous times ensured that my email information there is current, for whatever reason, I do not generally get the emails that they send out and have to rely on what they post on the blog and website to figure out what is up.

They did allude to the fact that the rewards program is changing but they haven't said when they will roll that out yet. People are asking for it to be changed before Dec 31 so they can make commitments knowing how it will change. This means that discounts on add-ons, classes, digital files and faster processing of your order is all possible to change.

I am waiting to hear how they will change the rewards program before I decided what to do. I get both the SB and the PL kit and depending on how this month goes I will keep both until Jan1. After that I will re-evaluate my options. I plan to drop my SB, but the PL kit will depend on what they do to the rewards program.

At this point I had kept my pl sub because it gave me the discount on the digital stuff (I think I said that in one of my earlier posts). If that changes I will be canceling as soon as I am done with my 6 month commitment for getting the stupid grab bag.

So, the new site is up and lots of people seem to be pleased with the discounts for add-ons...I'm not a subscriber so I can't see it. Anyone want to share?

Does this mean only subscribers can see the message boards? That sucks for all of the people who used to subscribe and still post on the boards (or for people like me who simply go and read about the shenanigans firsthand ). I leave any scrap related boards for months and come back to a thread all about my favorite place, SC (the gift that keeps on giving).

Cream soda 24.99 will be 29.99 Caramel apple 19.99 will be 28.99
Plus rewards get an additional 10% off

Oh yes, probably. Their poor communication is absolutely infuriating, and the way this whole thing has been handled is ridiculous. But they seem to build their marketing on being the 'cool kids' and everyone wants to be in their gang. I'm in a UK SC group on facebook, and after it all happened they were outraged and were leaving...and now they are all back in and gushing over the latest stuff. C'est la vie

(not picking on you craftykitten, just bolding your words) I really don't think it's to be part of a club so that you can see prices. It's to create more benefits for their subscribers and a less hectic reveal shopping experience. If you're not a subscriber to a particular kit, you can't see the prices either -- I only have PL, so I can only see the discounted PL promos.

This post will probably make me sound like a huge SC Fangirl...and maybe I am one, but I am trying to help people here understand too. (I am not paid by SC or anything, I am just stating my opinions here).... I know a lot of people dislike SC's marketing techniques and even dislike April, but I still love SC's kits. They are really bad at rolling out things and communicating them in a clear manner, but honestly these changes will be very good for a lot of subscribers. They are their own worst enemy, because in actuality these changes are more good than bad for a lot of people. I don't think the SC "cool kid" thing really applies anymore, that is pretty much a thing of the past. Nowadays it seems more like Hip Kit is the "Cool kid" club which is fine, but it isn't my style. The preview/pre-order prices are only for 2 days each month, but you can pre-order up until the first. The thing that is great about this, for me, is there is no additional shipping on the specials EVEN for internationals. As someone living in Australia that is amazing. I think they are actually trying to make the shopping experience easier for a lot of people. (too bad they communicated it so poorly). They changed the reveal times to happen while they are actually open (Noon on the 1st of the month for subscribers, and 3:00 pm on the 1st for everyone) this is great for some people, but it makes shopping harder for others, so this change of being able to pre-order (at a discount!) add-ons related to your sub is amazingly helpful to a lot of people. And takes a lot of pressure off. I noticed a lot of members on the board saying now they don't even have to go to reveal because they got the add-ons they wanted already, no muss, no fuss. More things will be available at reveal including the ability to buy add-ons to kits you don't sub to (like PL add-ons for SB subs etc), and stamp sets and probably extra paper and so on. For Caz CarolineO'Sullivan the prices were: -Carousel (embellishment only add-on) $12.99 (regularly $28.99, so $16 off, less than half price!) This was available at the special price for SB subs and planner subs. I pre-ordered this because I already knew I wanted it. It has an alphabet stamp set, plus a pile of embellishments I liked. -Ferris Wheel (12x12 scrapbook add-on) $24.99 (regularly $30.99, so $6 off) This was available to scrapbook subs. I ordered this too. -Cream Soda (PL add-on) $24.99 (I think I am not a PL sub...regularly $29.99, so $5 off) Available to PL subs -Caramel Apple (PL add-on) $19.99 (regularly $28.99, so $9 off) Available to PL subs Planner and Card kit subs also got the chance to pre-order some stamp sets at a reduced price, I believe. You still get your additional 10% off add-ons if you are a rewards member and you collect Calico Points.

I think as usual they make a huge hash up of how they communicate and anger a lot of people, then when it actually happens it is good(for most). I do understand why some are annoyed at the shipping though when getting multiple subs. I did a fake order over here with a main kit an add on and a couple shop items and it was $11 cheapest postage which is amazing or a middle price then the highest was $27 which I though was awesome for 2 - 6 days shipping.

Thanks for that information- my question (I was set to sign up for the PL and then all of this "hit the fan" so I'm waiting to see) is can you see the things in the kit that you are buying at this preview? I can see the regular price and just a snapshot of the items-not details. Since you are a subscriber, can you see everything you are getting or do you also have to guess?

Some of it seems good but I don't like that I can't pick up another main kit without starting another subscription. That and the very high cancellation policy makes me cringe

Subscribers saw the same photos as everyone else - I was relying on the sneak photos on IG and CT answers to questions about kit content before I pre-ordered. Not sure how that's going to work next month when pre-orders start immediately after 'preview'. I'm going to need a lot more information/detail about content before I hit that order button.

Ok, I have 3 months left on my subscription currently. I got suckered in with a free kit.... When can I cancel without paying 50% or a cancellation fee? I saw an email about new web site, but had no idea about the pricing structure until today. I started trying to figure out why I didn't get a notice for bundling. I finally saw they were changing when bundling began. I have canceled 2 times before, will cancel again and NOT start back up. I only joined because I missed getting their paper.
Once I cancel will I be able to get to my classes, digital items, or purchase items? Thanks

Yes you will still get classes, I do not think I have been a subscriber for close on a year maybe, and I can still use classes.

Once I cancel will I be able to get to my classes, digital items, or purchase items? Thanks Gluestickgirl girl has said a couple of times that you won't lose access to your classes & anyone can buy them going forward. About the 50% cancellation fee- that comes into effect in January, so you can cancel after your 6 month commitment with no penalty

Thanks Yes. Those things are completely separate from subscriptions. I cancelled about a year ago, but my account still contains all of my classes, my digital downloads, and my purchase history. I just don't get my monthly subscription anymore. You don't even have to be a subscriber to take classes or buy digital items.

NOW I'm even more ticked about this SC crud. Seriously, I had no clue about this pre-order/save money on add-on deal, although the one and only time I went to quickly check out their new site I had seen the discounted preview items and didn't have time to figure out why (I presumed it was order then and not bundling). Seriously, I like the kits, but the poor communication and if it is ANY more less convenient than it was, I am 100% out. For now, I planned to give it a month or two and decide which of my 3 subs I'll give up...I personally think as of January, those of us who had multiple subs are screwed over in the shipping big time. I would like to get to 1 sub and then seems to me I can bundle anything else with it (or nothing) and not pay additonal shipping. Since, I would much rather spend $50-60/month rather than the $125-150 I usually was!! Thanks for letting me vent I just came back here to see this pre-order thing, went to check it out at SC and of course, all are regular price again...
