Truly heartbreaking! And they just said on our news that the suspect sat through the entire Bible Study before taking the lives of those precious people. I pray they catch him soon! If he'd rushed in there, firing as he went I wouldn't be as shocked. It would fit the crazed gunman stereotype. But to sit there, listening to these people share their hearts and pray, and THEN shoot them? I can't wrap my mind around it. Praying for the capture of this criminal and for peace for the good people of Charleston. I don't think we can jump to the conclusion that he sat in there participating with them.
We do know based on video what time he went into the church. We know approximately when the shooting happened. We don't know if he confronted them right away. (maybe he hid) We don't know that he didn't hold them all at gunpoint and then went on to go on some sort of deranged diatribe before he actually started shooting. (I've heard hints on the news this morning that there was some talking that the gunman did before the shooting)
I did hear he reloaded at least 5 times. I also heard he let a woman go so that she could "tell the story" of what happened. (which again leads me to believe that things were said and done after he arrived, before he killed them all) I also heard there was a child that was there that survived.
It's beyond horrific and I hope he is found...TODAY and hope he is brought to swift justice.

A lot of those details have come out, including that he worshiped with them (he did not hide) for about an hour before shooting. He shouted many racial comments to them as he began and was shooting. And there were at least three survivors, not just the woman he allowed to live.

From the police chief (as read on CNN): The person who shot and killed nine people at Charleston's Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church was there for about an hour, attending a meeting with the eventual victims, before he began shooting, Charleston police Chief Greg Mullen said Thursday morning. And.... He didn't start shooting right away, police said. The white man spent an hour in a prayer meeting at the historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday night before he opened fire, killing nine people, Charleston police Chief Greg Mullen said Thursday morning. It's a horrible, senseless tragedy. I don't even understand. I'm friends with/work with SC State Senator Shane Martin. He's a race engineer on the NASCAR program that I work on. Here's his words from Facebook today: Please pray for Sen. Clementa Pinckney's family and all of those in Charleston impacted by this heinous act. I enjoyed serving with and fellowshipping with him. I am at a loss right now on why someone who cared so much for us would be taken from us in this manner. He always took the time to talk about my family and what was going on in my life. I'm going to miss you Clem!

What a tragedy.

Bits and pieces of information are coming out as they will for days. I just read that the gun he used was a gift from his dad for his 21st birthday. The picture they are showing of him is a mug shot. He has been arrested twice this year already and Dad gives him a gun for his birthday?

What amazes me is how we don't hear of him being called a thug, etc. so sad. This is a hate crime and domestic terrorism. No way around it.

I will give the news "credit" for using appropriate pictures this time. The first one I saw after they identified him, was an arrest photo. And another was him with an apartheid flag on his coat. No bright & shiny yearbook photos.

Exactly, he won't be called a thug or terrorist by most media. We will learn that he was "troubled". There will be no call to white leaders to stop the violence. One reporter went on last night asking what the black community could do to prevent events like this from happening.

I don't know it anyone saw Governor Nikki Haley's statement. It impressed me that she obviously spoke from the heart and did not use note cards. Her struggle to contain her emotions does not make her a weak leader in my opinion -- it makes her a leader who is hurting for her people.

Yeah, and despite what the survivor has said the shooter said, the FOX douchebag says this isn't a racially-motivated hate crime.

This is so sad. I hate to hear of things like this where normal people are just going about their normal lives and some nut job destroys not only their lives, but the ripple effects on their families, friends, etc is horrible too. Melissa I couldn't agree more. It's hard to imagine that something like this is happening more often, whether it's in a church, a theater or even your own home. Our churches were, at one time, one of the safest places you could be!
