Silly question, I know, but now I am curious. I was in the grocery store this weekend and people were shucking their corn in the store, getting silk and husk everywhere and just bagging the corn, and putting back ears they didn't like.
There re was at trash can there, but I assumed it was for people who like to open the corn and look at it, not to clean it in the store.
I have lived in Ohio most of my life and have never seen this before. People were looking at me like I had three heads when I took my 4 ears of corn, husk and all, and put them in my cart.
so where do you shuck corn? At home? In the store?

I usually buy it at the Farmers Market, so I shuck it at home, out on the patio.
I've seen the trash cans in the store next to the corn, and the people pulling off the husks there, but I've never done that.

Definitely not in the store We usually shuck on the back patio, and then sweep, or I spread out newspaper or something on the table and then have a big clean up after.

At home because we like to grill it with the husks on.

At home. My goal when shopping is to get in and get out as quickly as possible.

I have never seen anyone shuck corn at the store nor would I ever do that. That microwave trick does work! Now I want to go to the store to buy some fresh corn. LOL

I do it at home but I work in a grocery store and I do believe I am the minority.

Definitely at home. I thought the trash cans were just the little bit you might take off to look at the top kernels.
I've tried the microwave idea and it really does work. I got an Ove Glove to hold it.

I've shucked it at the store if there is a can there for that purpose. I was buying corn at the store today for dinner tonight, and I saw an elderly couple shucking it right at the display and throwing the husks back in with the ears. There was no can there. I personally wouldn't do that.
At home I drag my my kitchen trash can out onto the deck and I shuck it there.

At home. I have never even seen trash cans available near the corn.

I can't remember if it was on TwoPeas or on Facebook that I learned that people shuck their corn at the grocery store - that's so bizarre to me as it seems that you'd want the protection of the husk until you are ready to use the corn. Anyway, my answer is at home.

At home, in the garage or driveway. I wouldn't be taking the time to do in the store - I want to get my shopping done and get on with other things.

At home. Out on the back deck. The husks go into the compost bin. (I sound like I actually do this -- it's been a kid job for many years.)
The farm stand down the street has a sign up asking you not to shuck it there. It says something like "Peeking is permitted, but stripping is discouraged."

I noticed a trash can next to the corn at a store if I don't frequent often. We grill it with the husk on so we just pull out the silk at home on the deck.

I can honestly say that I've never seen ANYONE shuck their corn at the store or at the farmer's market. Of course, our Publix only sells the corn pre-shucked, so it wouldn't be an issue . . . but still!

If I am cooking it the same day, I do it at the store if the garbage can is right there. Otherwise, I do it at home over the garbage can the day I cook it. I am in Central Florida and shop at Publix.
I have 3 kids and a husband at home, so I take my time at the grocery store. It's so peaceful there.

(and the only place I buy corn is at Publix) Now obviously, if there was no can there, I would shuck at home. I'm also not sure why this qualifies me as a hillbilly...but whatever.
Edited to add...the garbage can next to the corn already contains corn husks...so clearly, I'm not alone. I'm not just using some random trash can. (although wouldn't it be awesome to shuck an ear of corn and put the husks in each garbage can I find around the store. LOL)

I rip open a paper bag and shuck it on my counter in the kitchen. I only ever peel back to see the top.

At home by my trash can. I just can't decide how to make it. I don't have a grill, so that's out of the question. I tried it two different ways this weekend; one ear was steamed in the microwave and then I did 2 in a pot of boiling water with a bit of salt. My mom always added sugar, so I did a bit, too, but I didn't notice a difference. Either way, the other 3 ears are sitting in my fridge waiting to be shucked.

Before I discovered the wonderful technique of grilling corn I always did it in the store. I still take the silk off before I grill, but I leave the husks on for cooking.
I live in the city of San Diego, we aren't redneck hillbillies.

Everyone cleans it at the store here. There are two huge garbage cans by the corn display. I kinda like it. Less mess at home!
