At home, over the kitchen sink lined with newspaper. It seems to stay fresh longer (and taste better) when the husks are left on.

Sometimes in the field when I pick it, but usually sitting in the yard under the shade tree. It was always the kids job to shuck it for me, but now that they are older and working - DH gives me a hand.
I usually do a couple hundred ears - so I am not shucking it all by myself! I blanch the corn and then put in my my big sink with cold water. Then I cut it off the cob and bag it in quart bags.
It is a major day when I freeze sweet corn. Oh god I am so tired when it is over! And what a mess! LOL - but it is so SO SO good in the winter!
DH hauls the cobs out for me and dumps them in the bunks.

I shuck at home. #1. I don't want to hang out at the store longer than necessary. #2. Sometimes we opt to eat the corn the following day, and I find it stays nicer in the husk than out of it. Oh, and I don't peel & peek, either.

I see the garbage cans at the store but I always do it at home so the corn doesn't dry out.

I usually only buy at local farm stands (I live in the land of corn! ) so I only shuck at home. However, I blanch in cold water and then bake in a 450 degree oven for 20 mins. Husks and silks slide right off and it's perfectly cooked every time!

We used to be able to do it at the store and that's what I did. Everyone seemed to do it at the store. Then they stopped that because of safety concerns (a man slipped and got hurt). Now I take my trash can to the deck and do it above and have a plate on the picnic table for the corn. I have tried it at the kitchen sink, and I still seem to make such a mess! If my husband does it, he does it at the sink. He doesn't make a mess.

I buy pre shucked corn at Costco. If I do buy corn with the husk on, I soak it in water and then grill it, peel and all.

If I know that I'm going to eat it that evening, I will shuck it in the store if there's a trash can available.
If we aren't, I will sometimes take out the outer leaves and the very bottom of stalk put them in the trash. I am very careful about getting everything in the trash, though.
It's definitely the norm here (Central NJ), at least at the stores I shop at.

Years ago, it was unheard of to shuck corn in the store. I always put newspapers on the floor and shucked into a paper bag. But we no longer subscribe to printed newspapers, and paper shopping bags are a rare commodity. I shop in the late afternoon, so when I get home, I'm in a rush to get my groceries into the house and put away before starting dinner. Life has changed, and so have our habits. Store policies have shifted, too. Nowadays, I always shuck corn at the store (there are usually TWO waste cans set out for that purpose), unless I am not planning to use it that same evening. The produce staff keeps the floor clean, and it's very rare to see empty husks discarded on the table where the corn is displayed. Sometimes, two or three other folks are standing beside me, all shucking corn, and we get into a friendly conversation, so it makes the work more pleasant.

Which came first, the store shuckers or trash cans? ;-) I know that was rhetorical, but I can virtually guarantee it was the shuckers. Who were standing right next the grape samplers.

Here in Canada no one would even think of doing it at the store Well, actually... in my town, they do in some stores.

At home in the sink lined with a bag...I've seen some store have trash cans next to the corn and people doing it in the stores. Sometimes it's such a mess. We usually toss our corn on the grill with the husk so it comes home with me.

I'm allergic to the husking of the corn...so I have to avoid that area of the store if they are husking it....the store does try to ban it.

Last weekend I did it on the patio with my grand kids. I loved all their comments & just visiting/bonding with them. It reminded me of green beans & peas with MY grandmother. Sometimes we just need to slow it all down.

Most stores 'round here have garbage cans for that and people do use them a lot. Me, cook in husk then shuck.

Some people DO shuck it at the store which is why Walmart has the trash can next to the corn. So people HOPEFULLY won't throw it back into the display. I HAVE seen people doing this but I wait until I get home.

I shuck at home. I hate when people are hovering around the trash can shucking their corn, and I can't get to the corn bin. I hardly bother to peel and peek any more. I just push my way in, grab some ears, and go. On a side note, I would have 3 angry guinea pigs, if I left perfectly yummy husks and silks at the store.

I have seen the bins at the store but I leave the husks on and remove them at home. My thoughts are to keep the corn as fresh as possible and keep the husks on as long as possible. My husks go into the compost bin.

I used to shop at a market that allowed/encouraged you to shuck it in the store. I lived that! Now I do it in the backyard, right into the compost bin.

In the store I frequent, there are signs next to the corn asking people not to shuck there.

We don't buy corn often, but when we do, we shuck at home. Doing it in the store seems weird.

I didn't even know people shucked at the store until a trash bin appeared near the corn display suddenly. I guess it was getting out of hand so they figured they might as well provide a can for it ! I always do it at home, I am too anal to get it perfectly clean at the store, plus sometimes I grill it with the husk on still.

I do it in the store. That is why they have the 2-3 huge trash cans sitting right next to the stand. And yes, I will open them a bit and see if they are good. If they aren't, I will put it back. I am not paying for corn that isn't any good. I don't really see the outrage factor here.
