At our local meat/produce market I shuck it there when they have the bins out for that purpose (usually just the height of corn season & just about everyone buying it does too). Any other time it's shuck it at home in the kitchen. (northern midwest)

At Wal-Marts here, people shuck it at the store all the time. The garbage cans are right there for that purpose. Sometimes I shuck there and sometimes at home.

In the garage over a big garbage can.
However --- when I was in Michigan last year, people were in Walmart shucking their corn right there in the produce section. WM had a huge garbage can sitting right there next to the bin of corn. Never saw that before. Didn't see it there this year.

I shuck it right at Whole Foods. There is a trash bin just for corn . Everyone uses it.

At my favorite Winco some people used to shuck their corn right into the bins of corn. The store finally put up signs banning in-store shucking. I've always shucked mine at home, sometimes on the deck, other times onto newspaper placed on the kitchen counter.

Most off the time, I do it at home into a plastic grocery bag. Unless I'm cooking it on the grill. Then then then the husks get peeled back, silk removed, corned buttered and seasoned, then husks back on and wrap in foil to grill. I have shucked it in the store into provided trash cans before but I don't normally like to because my hands are probably dirty from the store and then they get corn juice on them and there's no way to wash hands. If there were wipes close by then maybe I would do it more to save mess at home. I live in the middle of the USA.

Depends on where you are I guess. In Wisconsin and Iowa, I saw people do it all the time, so much so that I thought it was the thing to do in the US. The bins were always full of husks. I never did, but I seriously started wondering if I was the odd one out by not lol!

I usually peel an ear of corn back just a little to check that the kernels are all there and not rotted or black. but I keep them intact for grilling, tastes better in my opinion. If I'm boiling them, I shuck at home, too much work at the grocery story for me.
There's are several trash bins at my store (publix) right in front of the corn bin, which are usually overflowing. I'm in Miami.

I do it at the store if the garbage is there- i will admit that very few people take it to go- most clean it there

I've seen stations set up in stores to do it there.
I don't do it in the store, at home, or anywhere in between. When I was around 12, I was husking corn (at home on the patio, for those who we're curious) and a HUGE, NASTY bug - I have no idea what kind - came flying out of it. Scared the crap out of me. I haven't shucked corn since.

Everyone here seems to do it at the store - at least that's what I see on the rare occasions when I venture into supermarkets in the summer. There is always a trash can next to the corn. We stop at the farmer's market and my kids shuck the corn at home while standing next to the compost pile = no corn silk all over the kitchen!

I shuck it at the store (they provide waste bins for that purpose). But I also am just going to boil it, so I don't need the husk (like if I were going to grill it). Most people at least pull open the ear to make sure it's not rotten, regardless of whether they shuck it, especially when we're out of season. If I get it at the farmers' market, they just put them in the bag for you, but I have never, ever gotten a bad ear of corn from the farmers.

I think it's wrong, wrong, wrong to shuck corn in the store. We peel back to peek in the store and take it home to shuck. We sit on the front steps/porch and do it there.

In the last few days, I have seen people shucking corn at the store. I just assumed it was because they did not want to pay for the extra weight. (I know it does not weigh that much). But it makes since to do it at the store to alleviate the mess at home.

I've been wondering about the microwave trick - I should have known the peas would have the scoop!
(I fully shuck at home but peel back a section at the store to see if it looks ok.)

I did this tonight! I really does work! My DH didn't want to do it, but I said "then give me the knife and I'll do it". He was amazed!

At home. It makes me nuts when people do it at the store. They stand there FOREVER, shucking it and making me wait to just pick mine out and go. Never mind the mess. And that silk is actually very slippery on those grocery store floors!

At home. We grill ours in the husk but even if I didn't I would not do it at the store. I have never sen that. It it because it will weigh less?

I peek at the store, which does not require removing anything, just peeling back a bit. I shuck at home, for a few ears, over the trash can in the house. For many ears, outside. The trash barrels are usually out at the fruit/veg markets but not at the regular grocery store.

I never saw anyone shuck it at the store until I moved to the Chicago suburbs. I grew up in the middle of nowhere Minnesota and we never had garbage cans in the produce section that I can remember. Of course, we either grew our own corn or got some from a neighbor or family member more often than we bought it at the store.
I shuck it at home. I send DH and ODS out to the deck with a Target bag each and set them to work.

Which came first, the store shuckers or trash cans? ;-)

Thanks everyone! I was wondering if this was something regional that just migrated to my little town or if I was out of the loop. It looks like it just depends......good to know I am not crazy. Well, at least where the corn is concerned!

I'm the weirdo who grabs a dozen cobs of corn (no husking) and try to stuff them into the store's produce bags. It tends to end badly. Produce bags made for lettuce doesn't work.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I sometimes shuck at the store if a can is available.
To the posters who wondered about how that affects weight-- I usually don't see corn priced by weight. It is often a certain number of ears for a set price.

I grew up in the midwest, and nobody there shucked their corn in the store. They didn't even have trash cans to do so. But here in the south every store has a trash can, and most people do it in store. It's still weird to me. I just bring mine home and throw it in the trash. No big deal.

Here in Canada no one would even think of doing it at the store I bring it home and do it over the garbage can ... I'll admit that I'm pretty fast now

I usually do it at home on the back deck. My store does have a garbage bin beside the corn where lots of people do shuck it. I am just usually in too much of a hurry to do it there.
